The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Yes, they made the 1 and 2, and we rented 3 and 4. They were all great though! I have a few more pics I can post. It was fun, and I am very proud of dd!!

Sorry they are so big, I can take them down if they slow things down too much...

I'll be in NYC this Saturday and am planning to see Sister Act again (before Raven-Symone goes into the show) to see my friend play the lead! (She's the understudy and will be on all week as the original girl leaves today and Raven doesn't start until next week)

While I'm there I plan on buying my ticket for Evita for May (I'll be in NYC from May 8-10 to go see some shows) so I can see my other friend play Eva. I don't know what else I'll be seeing that trip, but hopefully Newsies and either Anything Goes or Ghost.

that's pretty cool having a friend in a broadway show!! Bet you get the backstage tour!:)

I loved seeing the pictures of Little Shop.

Our local high school just finished Annie get Your Gun this afternoon. We have a revue planned for next week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school and the theater group. We get to finish costuming things this week.

My ds2 just saw Newsies today. He saw it back in Ocotber when it was playing at Papermill and then he took his girlfriend to see it today on Broadway. He said it was Awesome. He also got to see the runners in Times Square for the half marathon.

What's the scuttlebutt on Nice Work If You Can Get It?. I just bought discounted tickets for the previews based on the show's stars, Matthew Broderick and Kelly O' Hara, Row H to the left of the stage.

I am DYING to see Newsies! They just extended their run until mid-August so if I can't get to it on my trip in May I'll get there this summer (Side note: My trip is BOOKED!!!! Except for my train tickets because I have to figure out if I'll be working on the 10th or not - I have a scheduled day off on April 16, which is Patriot's Day and because it's my day off I get a free comp day to use anytime within the following 30 days - so hopefully I can take it on May 10 and not have to rush back to Mass. to be at work at 3:30!) I

I do have two open slots for shows on my May trip - so 2 different days I can try for lottery tickets. My only filled slot is Evita on the 9th at 8 p.m. - ticket is purchased! Front row orchestra! SO EXCITED!

I know it's not Broadway but it... was?

Dunno, thought some might be interested - first pics from the Les Mis film set, of Jackman in costume. Just him so far as I've seen, just walking to or fro, closeups and full costume.

Linkage here.

We just saw How to Suceed in Business Without Even Trying with Nick Jonas and Beau Bridges. The show and the actors were excellent!! :thumbsup2 Nick is very talented, I was acutally suprised!

I saw Colm Wilkinson in the original Broadway production 3 times. What a voice! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Nice!! :thumbsup2

I just got tickets to Newsies! Very excited. I saw the movie twice when it first came out, and both times my friends and I were the only people there. I have it on DVD and I still love it.

I have a feeling it's going to extend past the 8/19 date, it seems to be doing very well already.

I saw Lion King on Broadway and absolutely adored it! Especially the costumes--so creative! It definitely inspired me to see other Disney shows on Broadway, because I am interested in seeing the transfer of animation to the stage. I haven't seen them, but it seems to me that other shows handled that transition differently--though, of course, creatively.

I love Colm Wilkinson! I met him once at a signing for his then latest CD Stage Heroes (I know, it was a long time ago, and I'm old). I gave him a heads-up that if I ever left DH, then DH was going to come looking for him! The expression on his face was priceless - his wife's, not so much:rotfl2:

Just wanted to throw my $.02 in here. I don't get up to NYC a ton (it's just too expensive even with the discounts you can find here and there), but I was raised with an appreciation of theater -- something that I'm very grateful to my parents for. As my brothers and I have gotten older, we've definitely made the two hour trek to NYC more often and have begun exploring our local university theater department which has provided some of the best theater experiences I've seen (go University of Delaware! My alma mater!).

Anyway, just went and saw "Once" with my brothers this past week. We're all huge fans of the movie and went in with trepidation since we didn't think it could compare to the great Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova film (who we've also seen live and are fantastic together). Nevertheless, it exceeded my expectations...and it was a huge improvement over Spiderman...the last Broadway show my brothers and I ventured out to see.

Anyway, (in a little bit of self-promotion) my full review of Once can be found on my blog linked in my signature below (my Spidey review can be found there, too by clicking on the Broadway tag on my site).

Oh My God I am just so excited right now. I just got home from the Announcement event at the civic center here in Des Moines where they announced the 2012-2013 broadway season. I am so excited. I'm gonna list them here to see what you all think of them and for Deb in IA.
Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, War Horse, The Book of Mormon, Jekyll & Hyde (pre broadway run with Constantine Maroulis!!!!!), Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys and Million Dollar Quartet (who performed tonight at the announcement and were amazing). I am beyond excited about this whole line up and can't wait to buy my season tickets.

:lmao:

I almost had the opportunity to say the same thing to chef, Tyler Florence, of the Food Network. I went to his book signing for his cookbook late and the line was out the door. He was really warm & personable to everyone, taking time to talk to each person & posing for photos. But, I figured I'd be standing in line for an hour and I wanted to browse some books too, and the store would be closed by the time I got to the head of the line & met Tyler.

So, instead, I went downstairs to the craft & cooking section. About an hour later, I happened to look up and there was Tyler walking in. I was going to say something similar to what you said, but his girlfriend shot me such a look. :duck:  I decided against it.

I guess I should have. Tyler ended up marrying someone else. I lost my chance. :lmao:

I sent you a PM, RyMickey, but not sure if you'll see it. I very rarely log in myself! Anyhoo... I'm going to order tickets for Once for next month and I'm wondering if it matters where the seats will be. Is this a show where we would want to be up front, or is mezzanine just as good.

Thanks!

Great line up!!! We are also getting B and B, War Horse and Book of Mormon here. We bought our very first season tickets ever!
We just had Les Mis and Million Dollar Quartet, and we saw Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages in the last year and a half. Loved both of those!!

Yeah we had Rock of Ages here last year too before Constantine left the show and it was amazing. It must of been really popular here since they are bringing it back so soon. I can't wait to see it again. I'm questioning going to Jersey Boys, I know how popular it is but it just doesn't seem like my thing. Normally I wouldn't have been that excited about Million Dollar Quartet but they had the main performers from the Chicago show there at the announcement and they played like 6 songs and were amazing so I'm really excited about that one. My mom about had a heart attack when she heard about Les Mis.

Jersey Boys really was fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! I have the soundtrack now, and listen to it all the time. My dh even really enjoyed it, and he is not a big musical fan. I would give it a try! It's very funny! And lot's of bad language :).
