The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

OK, no one in real life will share my excitement right now, so I will share here. My dd wants to see Les Miz soooooooooooooooooooooo bad, but we just can't swing the prices right now. I was told by our theater rep that the producers told them they would not be allowed to offer student rush tickets, so my dd was crushed.
Fast forward to today, Les Miz starts tomorrow, and they just announced they will sell $20 rush tickets for all performances!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is going to just die!

DS's school choir is heading up to Minneapolis on Dec. 15 for the show!

It is my all-time favorite musical. I would love to help chaperone, but can't get off from work.

We did see this touring production last spring, and it is fantastic!! Have a great time!

So there's some Les Miz movie news:

Thenardier will not be Geoffrey Rush. It's going to be Sacha Baron Cohen.

And it looks like Aaron Tveit is going to be playing Enjolras.

Here's the article confirming that they're both in negotiations:

In related news, I saw Hugh Jackman tonight. Not his show, but I saw him walking up 44th St heading to the theater for his show tonight. So cute! :lovestruc

OH MY GOSH!!!! I just freaked out a little. I had no idea Aaron Tveit might be involved with this. I was already really excited but now I am beyond that. I think all of the casting sounds great so far.

Just got tickets to take my friend to "On a Clear Day" in February. Hoping all the bugs are worked out by then! We got center, 3rd row mezz. for $89!

AWESOME!!

I'm taking DD to see Howmto Succeed with Darrin Criss in Jan. Shes a huge fan of Darrin. Hoping to see something else soon as well.

Lara

Just got tickets for Spiderman Turn Off the Dark. They were having a winter special, $79 for orchestra seats mid-week. I'm not sure it was the top of my list, but I figured the price was right.

Can't wait to see Evita! I know the actress who was cast as the alternate Eva, so she'll be playing the role twice a week!

:faint:
I love that man!!

Hmmmm. Borat as Thenardier? I always thought of an older man in that role, but I'm sure SBC will be OK. It is a comic relief type part, after all.

I do like the idea of Aaron Tveit as Enroljas!!

Me too! I was taking pictures of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center for my friend's daughter, and my way back to the bus I passed by the theater just as he was getting to the stage door. There was already a mob waiting for him, so I jumped in and took a picture:

Didn't expect that one either, but he did pretty well in the Sweeney Todd movie, and I thought he was great as the police inspector in Hugo. Should be interesting.

Me too! I had no idea he was even up for it.

There were having auditions for the adult Cosette in NY this week, so it sounds like they're going for an unknown in that role. Curious to find out who's playing Eponine too.

I really hope the rumor is true that Lea Michelle is the main choice to play Eponine. I can't imagine a better person out there now to play her and she has played her on stage before.

I'd love to see her get the part too. She's written to be such an annoying brat on Glee that you forget how talented she actually is. I saw her in Spring Awakening on Broadway awhile back (and I saw her in Ragtime when she was a little kid), and she was terrific.

I just hope those Taylor Swift rumors are wrong.

Why is broadway so ridiculously expensive. I just looked up the price for the new production of Porgy and Bess.

cheap seats are 87 bucks a piece and go up to $278 bucks EACH!!!

So I heard this afternoon that there were standing room tickets available for Hugh Jackman's show this week, so after work today I went to the box office to see if they had any left. And they did! I'm seeing it on Thursday! :cool1:

For $26.50, I can deal with standing in the back theater and seeing Hugh again for 2 hours.

I saw Young Frankenstein (off Broadway--still do not know whether that counts, lol) but I LOVED it. I've never even seen the movie so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was so funny!!

I have the chance to see Les Mis in January. Debating whether I should go. Same thing, Off Broadway, in Knoxville at the TN Theatre. My sister is dying to go and I know nothing about it...

here's a link... http://www.tennesseetheatre.com/event/569661/les-miserables/ maybe someone can give me their opinion? TIA

Lion King yesterday was absolutely beautiful! DH, DS8, DS10 and I loved it! Theater was gorgeous, too. Highly recommend it! :goodvibes
