The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

THAT actually is what I was asking. People are shopping in NYC all the time. Didn't know if you were even allowed to take bags to your seat or if you had to "check" them and get a claim ticket to retrieve after the show. No big deal.

Ah. No, there's no theatre I know of has any sortof bag (or coat) check. Many of our theatres are like 100 years old. There's noplace it'd be feasible for 1000 people or whatever a house is, even just coats. The space just doesn't exist.

It's not a thing in larger, newer theatres either here though, come to think of it. Lincoln Center you sit on your coat and stuff a bag under your seat (there may exist a coat check in the basement someplace I have some vague idea but it's not really a used thing if it does exist).

Huh?

Some Broadway theaters (and definitely Lincoln Center) have coat checks. Some even have lockers. You can check their website or call the theater and find out if they have one and what they charge for it.

I've never used one, but I've definitely seen them.

I just got back from seeing "Wicked" and once again it was beyond amazing. I thought everyone was really good in the show. We saw the standby for Elphaba her name is Christine Dwyer and I can't imagine a better Elphaba except Idina herself. Christine was just amazing and had a beautiful voice, she actually looked and sounded a lot like Idina. I'm actually going to try to go again this weekend before it leaves town. I had forgotten how much I love this show but tonight reminded me. It was the perfect way to spend my birthday.

Like I said, I have some vague recollection Lincoln center has a coat check in the basement (that is where it is, right?). I've never used it, I don't know anyone who's used it, even when coming in that way. I don't debate some people must but it's not like it's obvious or particularly common (that is the place I'm at most, season tickets since I was a child).

I said I've never seen one in a B'way theatre; haven't, to my recollection. Maybe I missed one, maybe I've missed whatever theatre(s) have. It's not really common though, they are generally old, small and with no room for coat checks for 1000+ people.

Wonder what show that could have been? :confused3 ;) I paid, I believe $137 for tickets to that same show, in the mezzanine.

:thumbsup2 I couldn't believe I paid $199 each, because I had to buy them ahead of time as a gift. The day of the show DH decided to come with us, went to TKTS (unheard of for that show, but it was after one of last year's big snowstorms) and sat closer than us for $65! Center orchestra!

I love this show too!! My second all-time favorite, after Les Mis.

My dd and I are going to the last show on Jan. 8th!:banana: DD and I have seen it twice before and she has followed some of the boys as they have aged out and gone on to other things.

We were fortunate enough to go to the last show for Spamalot and it was lots of fun. Many of the performers from the original cast came and they did a nice sendoff at the end. Hope some of the the Billy's come back -- like Trent -- he was my fav!

my coworker will be going and he also thinks some of the original Billy's will be back. I saw trent 3 times! I am still sad that it's closing. it's such a good show.

The original 3 Billys were at the anniversary peformance a few weeks back, so I definitely think they'll be at the final performance as well. Hopefully they'll get as many of the former Billys back that they can.

There's a slideshow of the anniversary show here:

It's such a great show! I saw it in October and it seemed like it was in great shape. So sad it's closing.

The Beaumont at Lincoln Center has free lockers upstairs (Loge seating) that you are able to store your coat in. Other theatres do have Coat Checks... I know the Broadhurst has one downstairs, near the men's restroom. I'm pretty sure some other houses do as well, but I don't use them so I can't say for sure that all of them do.

I saw On a Clear Day... last sunday and thought it was just O.k. I thought the story was really interesting and had a lot of promise - especially changing Daisy to Davey. But there were a few times I didn't think the music worked with the new book and as much as I enjoy Connick's voice, I got tired of his "jazzy" way of singing the score. Thought the rest of the cast was pretty great, especially Jessie Mueller.

I was sad to see that BONNIE & CLYDE got mostly negative reviews, although I do have to agree that it never felt "exciting" or "dangerous", I enjoyed the show, and I'm looking forward to a cast recording (fingers crossed!).

My wonderful DH gave me a combo anniversary/ birthday present of tickets for three different shows. We went to see Newsies at the Papermill (okay, not really Broadway at the time... but it's on the way!!) last month. Fabulous show! It should be interesting to see what becomes of it on Broadway. The cast was amazing... but they'll have to recast Jack. Whoever they find has some big shoes to fill!

We saw Hugh Jackman as well. So entertaining!

And then last night we went to see Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin. They were amazing... just truly talented individuals. I know people who don't like the sound of either one or the others voice... but what they actually do with a song is magical. The nuance, the body language, the feeling, the phrasing... I loved every moment of it!

question, I really want get tickets to Book of Mormon with my mom and sister but it is sold out online for dec 14-16th... any way I can get tickets other than stubhub?

Not really. That show is sold out through most of next year. My parents have tickets for next June.

They have standing room tickets that are sold the day of the show, but if you try that, be prepared to get there early...like, middle of the night early.

They also have a lottery before every performance where you can win $32 tickets two hours before the show starts (show up 2-1/2 hours early and enter your name at the box office), but there's usually well over 100 people there every night, so the chances of winning are slim. Still, you could get lucky if you try.

There's also a cancellation line outside the theater, and if anything opens up before the show the tickets may become available. If they're premium seats, though...those tickets can cost more than $400 per ticket.

It's the hottest show on Broadway right now, so it's a tough ticket. It's funny as hell though (I saw it last June), so if you can find a way in, definitely check it out. Good luck! :thumbsup2

Just got back from seeing "Wicked" for the second time in four days. I went down there at 4:00p today and entered the lottery and actually won (well technically my mom won but...) They were both great and terrible seats (like Oz himself). we were in the second row on the aisle. It was amazing to be that close and to see the actors expressions and the great details in the costumes but it was it was also distracting and that far off to the side there were often ensemble cast blocking the leads. If it had been my first time seeing it I would have been kind of upset but since it was my fourth time I think it was just great to be that close. And as always the show was amazing!!!!

Glad you were able to get the lottery tickets!

Did you see Ann Brummel as Elphaba this time? She is amazing!

OK, no one in real life will share my excitement right now, so I will share here. My dd wants to see Les Miz soooooooooooooooooooooo bad, but we just can't swing the prices right now. I was told by our theater rep that the producers told them they would not be allowed to offer student rush tickets, so my dd was crushed.
Fast forward to today, Les Miz starts tomorrow, and they just announced they will sell $20 rush tickets for all performances!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is going to just die!
