The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Wow! I'm totally floored that this thread is still going on after all this time. :cool1::cool1:

I haven't seen any shows lately, but my wife did see the new production of Porgy and Bess and she said she loved it...even with the changes.

As for me, I'm in a local production of Guys and Dolls, I'm playing Nicely-Nicely Johson, so if there are any Cape Diser's here the show goes up in November at the Barnstable Comedy Club.

thanks for letting me get a plug in.

That's my favorite musical! I saw it on Broadway with Nathan Lane many years ago. I think Walter Bobbie was Nicely-Nicely.

Break a leg!!

We just got back from NYC where we saw How to Succeed in Business... Great musical, funny plot and well staged. Radcliffe and Larroquette were both very good.

Saw it two weeks ago. Got surprisingly great seats 20 minutes before showtime at the Times Square TKTS booth. I thought the plot was silly, but then again most musical plots are. But good acting, singing, and dancing. Enjoyable show. Loved John Larroquette's floozy girlfriend.

Going to see Sister Act next Fri. Anyone see it on Broadway? Did you like it?

Yes, saw it last May. It was pretty good, but not great. It's set in Philadelphia and they had a few local references that will probably be lost on the bulk of the audience. Hope you enjoy it.

Just ordered our NYC Lion King tickets for mid-December. Can't wait! Saw Mary Poppins last year, and really looking forward to this show too!

Thanks, I'll let you know. We have been to many of them and this was one that my wife wants to see. I just go along. :thumbsup2

OK, this is a bit off topic, but why do people go to shows that they have no interest in, and don't like?

As I already posted, we went to La Cage Aux Folles. Now, everyone HAS to know that this is about a gay couple and guys in drag.

So, we are seated and some guys, in baseball caps, sit down in the row right behind us. One of them immediately says, "Fudge!!!!" - except his version rhymes with "duck".

A few minutes later, during the pre-show and before the show even begins, he again says LOUDLY, "I'm gonna have to get a beer soon!!!"

Finally, during the second number, when Albin transforms himself into Zaza, same guy again says loudly, "I just don't get the appeal of this whole thing", gets up, and stomps out.

Now, while we are really glad this Neanderthal moron left, I just wonder why in the world did this guy spend $60, and acutally show up, for a show he couldn't stand????

:confused3 :confused3

The Sister Act cast will be on the Wendy Williams show on Friday and on Dancing with the Stars on Monday! I have no idea what they're performing, but the cast is fabulous!

I've been to both the Hairspray and Sweeney Todd movies with audience members who appeared surprised and disgusted that they were musicals. All I can think is, "Dude...did you not look up what this movie was before you got the ticket?"

I've seen performances of Rent where it was clear people were none too pleased with the content. The funniest being the one who kept asking what happened to the nice Spanish boy with the drum from the first scene (who plays a drag queen for the rest of the show). :rotfl:

I also just heard from someone whose friends were stunned by the language in The Book of Mormon...despite the fact that there are even explicit language warnings on the tickets themselves. Not to mention warnings all over the Telecharge website and the box office.

My favorite is still when Titanic: The Musical was on Broadway and people asked what night Leonardo DiCaprio would be performing. Seriously, that happened. :lmao:

My favorite was my sister's inlaws. they went to see Titanic. when I asked them how it was the wife said "It was so sad" What did you expect everyone dies at the end. was this a surprise?

I agree with that article as well. I feel like the whole show would have been even better had there been someone besides George hamilton in it. I have never wanted to se Kelsey Grammer so much in my life. I really think Christopher Sieber was amazing though. I've since listen to a couple of recordings from different incarnations of the show (both the original and the new recording) and I think he was better than both other Za Zas (although if you look up John Barrowman singing "I Am What I Am" on you tube you'll see he is pretty amazing too.)

I'm glad that person ended up leaving. I would have been so annoyed. I've seen people like that before and people should really look into the shows that they go to so as not to waste their money and not ruin the time of those around them if they are going to be so vocal about their opinions.

FINALLY saw Billy Elliot on Broadway tonight. :thumbsup2

It's one of my favorite movies, and I saw the London production twice when I was there a few years ago, but I hadn't gotten to the Broadway version - and of course, now it's closing in January (in other news, Spiderman continues it's reign of terror on Broadway for the forseeable future :sad2: )

The show was terrific! Somehow we ended up in the front row, which was actually really cool. There were a few changes from the London show - they take some time to explain the miners strike, the beginning of Act 2 is a little different, and the audition scene is totally different (I liked that part better in London).

There was also a whole fuss in the theater forums that the swearing in the show was being dropped...but I only noticed two swear words that were changed. One of Billy's f-bombs was changed to "bloody hell" and the other changed to "flippin'". No big deal - the show still had plenty of swearing, which I was happy to see wasn't cut completely, because that was just dumb.

But it was such an amazing show...so sad that it's closing.

Fri night saw Sister Act at the Broadway Theatre. Really liked it. The leads were very good. Sat in the 3rd row and had a good view of it all. Really funny. The props were simple and nothing allaborate.

Saw GODSPELL Friday evening. I was familiar with the music, but had never seen the actual show (or the movie). I had some issues with the beginning... but I was ultimately swept-up and ended up having a great time and even teared up a little. The cast is pretty solid; Hunter Parrish (I'm a little in love with him) isn't the best singer but was definitely able to hold his own.

In the next two weeks I have Bonnie & Clyde, War Horse (2nd visit), How to Succeed..., Lysistrata Jones and I'm hoping to catch something for my birthday on Tuesday - Hopefully a return visit to Billy Elliot, or possibly Memphis (for the 1st time).

Saw How to Succeed and like it. Also liked Godspell. When we saw it Sabastian Bach played Jesus.

I just got back from seeing "Beauty and the Beast". It was amazing. I love the changes they made for the stage version. I was surprised by how funny it was. The whole cast had incredible voices. I would love to see it again. I went into it with slightly lower expectations because I have seen the version at DHS and I thought it would be like that but it was so much better.

We saw Jersey Boys yesterday, in the middle of the October Noreaster. It was a good show. The lady next to my friend was singing and "seat dancing" the entire show.

That was good.

I know I should know who that is next to you in your avatar-pic...but... who is it  ?
