The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

It's a small show but how about The Fantasktics. I think the only props and scenery is a ladder and a sheet.

I need advice on what to do.

We will be in NY in 9 days! We have tickets for the June 4th afternoon performance of Phantom.

We decided to see Rock of Ages that same evening. I have been waiting for weeks to find a decent deal on tickets but I somehow missed that Broadway Box doesn't EVER have tickets for Friday or Saturday night shows. How I have managed to miss that little detail all this time is beyond me!

Anyway, we would be willing to see something besides RoA but I am afraid we won't get any tickets if we wait until we get there.

Our plane doesn't get in until 11am that day so we may or may not have time to hit TXTS depending on delays, traffic, hotel check in, etc. If we don't have time, would there still be tickets left after the Phantom show lets out?

The sole purpose of this trip is to see three shows in about a 33 hour time frame so I really want to make sure we get tickets for something on Saturday night.

Should I just suck it up and pay full price online so I am guaranteed seats?

If you have a DVC code there is always Mary Poppins......:thumbsup2

Billy Elliot is a must see:banana:

Off to see 'How to Suceed....' on Sat. Get to chaperone the high school theater group's annual trip to NYC. Only drawback is that we have to eat at Ellen's Stardust Diner. That gets old quickly...been there, and don't really want to do it again. Oh well. But, looking forward to the show.
Also want to try to get tickets for sometime late June for dd and myself.

We saw Hair for the first time last night! :hippie:

I didn't really care to see it but went because it was part of our season. Boy was it FUN! :)

I just bought my season tickets for my local broadway series and I am very excited. I don't have great seats but I get to see "West Side Story", "Bring It On The Musical", "La Cage Aux Follies"(sp?), "Memphis", "Rain" and "Wicked" (have to pass on "Billy Elliot" since we will be at wdw while they are here). It should be a great season although I am not quite as excited for any of these shows as I was about "Next to Normal" and "Rock of Ages" this past season.

If you REALLY want to see Rock of Ages, it's probably best to order full price tickets online in advance. It's in a small theatre and there's no guarantee there would be tickets available on the day of the show, either at the box office or TKTS booth.

If you're willing to see another show, yes, there will be discount tickets available for SOMETHING at the TKTS booth, even right up to show time on a Saturday night. Even if a show isn't listed at TKTS, you might be able to get full price tickets at the box office. Don't worry, you're 99.9% guaranteed to find something or other.

For anyone curious about what's TKTS, they have an official iPhone app now, and it will show what's currently on the boards each day. It updates every half-hour or so, so it gives you a good idea of what's usually up there and what the discounts usually are. I check it all the time, even if I'm not seeing a show.

I saw "How to...." back in March--I loved it!

Have any of you seen God of Carnage? It's playing in Pittsburgh right now, and it looks like it would be good.

Thanks! I think we will take our chances since we are fine with seeing almost anything.

Thanks so much for this! We just downloaded it and plan on paying close attention to it this weekend so we can hopefully judge what will be available the following weekend.

Just scored a pair of tix to Catch Me If You Can for our trip next month- it's our annual pilgrimage to the boards, and I'm counting down as we speak!!

So far we've got 8 events planned- looks like overkill!

I saw the Book of Mormon today. It was definitely the most utterly offensive musical I've ever seen. That being said, I loved every minute of it! :thumbsup2

It was so hilarious! Clearly very, very R-rated, but the music was fantastic and soooo funny. Strange as it sounds, the story wound up actually kinda sweet.

But we loved it! I hope it wins the Tony next week.

My husband and daughter are in NY now seeing three plays in 32 hours. Book of Mormon was on DD's short but she was a bit concerned that seeing BoM with her dad might be a little uncomfortable.

They ended up seeing Rock of Ages. They absolutely loved it but DH didn't have a clue what it was about going into it. He said it is something that a dad should not see with his 16 year old daughter! :rotfl: DD had an aisle seat and one of the characters came down and did some overt sexual hip grinding thing right near her face and DH said he has never felt so uncomfortable in his life!

When he texted me during intermission, I looked up the reviews and saw that a lot of people walked out with their kids because they felt it was so inappropriate. Of course, others took their 10 y/o and felt it was perfectly fine so I guess it is all based on your own perspective. Anyway, they loved it but thought it was a tad uncomfortable for a dad/daughter thing. He had read about BoM and, while he really wanted to see it, after RoA, he is glad they aren't seeing that together.

I just bought tickets for Broadway Across America to see West Side Story in Boston in July. I'm so excited.

We saw king tut in the summer and we went to the Harry Potter exhibit 2 weeks ago- it was great. You can get tickets in Costco for Harry Potter Exhibit for 24.99 including the audio guide which was great!

Where can I get these at Costco? We're going next month, and as there are no shows on July 4th, this is what we plan on doing.

I hope that you can give me the inside scoop!!

TIA.....

Can you tell me about Ellen's? We're heading to NYC in July (newbie) and this was one of the places my sister had mentioned.

Keeping it on-topic, we're supposed to see Spider Man while we're there..I know the show's had issues..I hope they get all worked out before we get there!

Haha...if Rock of Ages made him uncomfortable, I would definitely vote 'no' on a father/daughter trip to Book of Mormon. :scared1:

I loved Rock of Ages, but I would probably be leery of taking a 10-year-old. I know my mom didn't like me watching videos of those same songs back when I was that age (although she loves that music too).

I would definitely recommend Book of Mormon though, as long as you're prepared for the R-ratedness of it. It was just unbelievably hilarious, and I'm completely addicted to the cast recording now. :lmao:
