The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

We saw Frankie Valli in concert last night. Guess that's sort of Broadway-ish, since he's the subject of Jersey Boys.

I saw Matilda this afternoon, with my mom and sister. We loved it! It's much closer to the original Roald Dahl book and not the movie version, so it's very British (there's a Doctor Who reference in one of the songs!) and since I never really liked the movie version, it's much better.

The staging is fantastic, especially the Act 2 opening song with the swings, and the scene with the Trunchbull goes after the poor kid with the pigtails.

We saw Milly Shapiro as Matilda, and she was terrific - and so tiny! Bertie Carvel, who played the Trunchbull (yes, the headmistress is played by a man) was hysterical. Horrible, but hysterical! He was in the Les Mis movie too, he was the guy who gets Fantine arrested (the one she scratches in the face). He made Miss Hannigan look like Maria from The Sound of Music. :rotfl:

But it was really great - totally dark and twisted, very funny, but really sweet too.

I've been excited to see the show since I first heard the score last summer, and I wasn't disappointed. My mom already wants to go back and see it again.

Did he say anything about Annette Funicello?

Seeing Book of Mormon tonight in Boston. My mother and I had planned to come in anyway and try the lottery and with the attacks at the marathon yesterday we weren't even sure the show would still happen, but we were out shopping in Braintree and decided to come out and try the lottery anyway. They said that for every other performance there has only been 20 available tickets, but they must have called 35-40 names. But I am so glad that Boston is already slowly starting to rebound...

Glad you had the chance to enjoy.

Loved, loved, loved Kinky Boots. Billy Porter as Lola was fabulous. The music was incredible. The dancing and the costumes were amazing. Can't wait for the cast album.

Glad to see another glowing review, we loved it!!

Has anyone seen "Big Fish The Musical" yet in Chicago. I'm going on Sunday and wanted to see if anyone had seen it.

WOOOOHOOOO!!!!:cool1:

DH was in NYC for the last 3 days for business. Came home today with a surprise--tickets for the whole family for "Peter and the Starcatcher" on Mother's Day! I've been wanting to see this for awhile.

I CANNOT wait!!! :cheer2:

Could one of you smart Broadway people help me out ;)

I would love to get tickets to see Les Miserables next year but I have no idea how to find out when they go on sale...any suggestions?

Miss Disney, I'm going to Chicago and wonder how you liked Big Fish? We are thinking of going next weekend.

Will it be playing in your area?
Find out which ticket supplier will be selling the tickets and sign up to be notified via email of events going on in your selected area.

I do this all the time for events everywhere. Right now I'm looking for events in NYC for our anniversary trip in June/July, and have managed to get some shows at decent prices.

Good luck!

On Broadway? They haven't even announced which theater it's going to be in, so the tickets aren't on sale yet. I'm guessing we'll hear more in the summer/fall. It's supposed to be opening in March.

The popular rumor is that Nice Work if You Can Get It will close, and Les Miserables will move back into its old home at the Imperial, but again...there's no official update yet.

In the meantime, you can check Playbill.com and Broadway.com for updates.

Thanks...I didn't know how far in advance they sell tickets :)

I thought is was really, really great. It was grand and heartfelt and for sure made me cry. I would definitely recommend seeing it. We went to the matinee on Sunday and since it is not very well known yet it was not very full. My tickets were actually for the upper balcony and I got moved to the main floor like the twentieth row so that was great. If you are interested in buying the tickets online use the code "THANKYOU" and you can save $20 per ticket (it was on a flier they passed out on the way out of the show). Also if you are interested in meeting the cast the alley behind the theater is where they come out and there were maybe 8 people waiting yesterday so I got to get signatures from much of the cast and pictures (including with Mr. Norbert Leo Butz himself) Sorry this is such a long answer to your short question but I just wanted to share all the information.
