There have been various discussions on this board as to whether the Magic (and Wonder) have a brig.
Thumbing through my copy of Michael Eisner's book "Work in Progress", page 407, he mentions touring the brig on the Magic before the ship went into service.
I don't know where it is, and I can only assume there is one on the Wonder too.
Of course, in my odd mind, I start wondering about how they treat "guests" in the brig. I mean, they are still paying guests, just misbehaving paying guests. Do they order their meals off the dining room menus? :confused3 Palo? :confused3 Do you get lobster in the brig on formal night? :confused3 Can you get Mickey Bars?:confused3
Oh man, way past my bed time, the 2 am alarm will be ringing far too soon.

Maybe the punishment is NO Mickey bars, and NO warm cookies before bed? That would certainly make my kids want to be good... Now if you took away Drink of the Day I would shape up and behave... :rotfl:

What I know...or think I know....
In incidents involving teens, they are NOT held in the brig. They are confined to their cabin and permitted to be out of cabin only in the immediate company of their father. Don't know what they do if daddy is not sailing.

I've seen two incidents which allude to the existence of the brig. First one involved much screaming from cabin across hall. Screaming implied female was being abused. GS was called, security in hall, male person removed from room, never re-appeared during cruise. On another cruise, guests were told that first tender was being taken by DCL for a "medical" situation. We watched as individual was taken off the ship in handcuffs. Regular tendering then resumed.

Sorry TVguy, I can't answer any of your questions.

Hmmmm.... this gives me something to think about while I fall asleep. It's a neat thought. I mean, Disney is all about customer service and treating you great...but if you try and ruin their cruise by being naughty, how do they treat you? Good or bad??

Hey, you Disers? Any of you been in the brig? Seen the brig? Even from the visitors section? Wanna inform us??

I found this on straightdope.com:

I saw one on a Cunard or P&O vessel once (I used to do travelling audits on lots of different cruise ships so I can't remember which one it was).

It was much like the cells in a police station (which I hasten to add I have also only experienced as a non-participatory observer). A plain room with no furnishings except a fixed flat bench/bed and a mattress coverd with tough waterproof vinyl canvas.
Walls painted with white gloss, floor with green floor paint. A strong door with a peephole and no internal handle.
A general lack of objects, fittings or protrusions on which one might contrive to injure oneself.

And this post from another cruise website:

I have seen pictures of cruise ship brigs and they looked a lot like this one.

Just before Sacramento opened their new jail, they had a charity fundraiser there. Not a bad idea, because it allowed the Sheriff's department to check all the security systems with non-inmates, they discovered the elevators were wired backwards, instead of being controlled only by the guard tower, they were controlled only inside the elevator...ooops. That photo looks just like a regular jail cell.......I suspect the one on the ship has the famous cruise ship toilet, not the kind shown in the photo.
Wonder if there are any hidden Mickeys in the brig?

They force them to wear jeans during dinner since it is not in the dining room.

During a cc reception on the Magic in 09, this question came up. Dont know if they were suppose to tell us, but did. When the ships were first built, Magic and Wonder, they did have brigs. After some time, and almost no use, they were converted into office space I believe. They indicated that especially with a tipical Disney crowd there really wasnt a need for a formal brig, but could still handle any situation without one. At that time they thought that the new ships would probably have them again.

On the 2005 WBPC, one guest was told to pack his things. At the next port, he was escorted off the ship.

It would seem to me that a cruise ship is a floating city and therefore, whether or not they paid the cruise fare, NOT everyone is a happy-dappy, pixie-dust-sprinkling good person. As a paying customer with children, I expect all cruise liners to have a brig and to hold people who are violent or who are stalking children or others until they can be remanded to police custody. In fact, I think they have a legal duty in cases where they are aware someone is harming or will potentially harm other people. I could be wrong.

Don't about Disney but when I was on the Dream I did see one on my Behind the Fun Tour. It was on deck 0 and did have a padded cell with shower and toilet.

Good! I am sure he deserved it! I agree that with so many people on board and the potential to have someone cause harm, there needs to be something in place.

If you have been REALLY bad they make you listen to "It's a Small World" nonstop.

Sadly, that's my favorite ride about 3 pm on a 100 degree day at Disneyland. 19 minutes of air conditioning!!!

Actually, I think the brig is half there for bad passengers, and half for bad crew members. Passengers only have to behave for a few days, crew members are on board for 6 to 9 months.

Don't be giving out the best kept secret of all times:rotfl2::rotfl2:
