I received my "box" today from ABD. I have been preoccupied with something and didn't realize that the trip is less than 2 months away!! I decided on the messenger bag instead of the backpack as I have two backpacks and it is nice, it is nylon brown and padded for laptop protection. There is no stupid yellow luggage handle which at least in my opinion a good thing, there is the pre departure booklet and then there are two luggage tags the paper kind with my name preprinted and I fill out the address, the instructions state to put them on my luggage prior to my departure, the final item is a plastic travel bag, the kind to put your 3-1-1 items in which I like.

I can't believe I leave in 44 days WOW!!

So, how do you get to choose between a backpack and a messenger? Was it when you registered? I'm not sure we were given an option. Is there any way you can post pictures of your bags? I'm curious...

They told me that as a returning guest I got to choose. For adults it was the backpack or messenger bag. I already had one of each, but my backpack is falling apart, so I chose the backpack. For kids the choice was a backpack (already have 2 of those) or some sort of game case or carrier (I don't remember what they called it, but I figured it was for something like a DS so I selected that).

Congrats! We chose the messenger bag too. I can't wait until my "box" gets here! We had gotten backpacks when we went to China in 2009 so wanted something different this time. Where are you going?

Quick question:
will we receive one bag for family use, or, will we receive one each?(there are three of us going?)
ps-congrats on your box!!!

OK, back in 2008, they did a messenger bag that was this huge awkward, heavy thing that I have never found a use for. This one sounds much more useful. Please do post some pictures if you could! I may try to switch my selection. (I already have 2 backpacks!)

It sounds like they've stopped doing the countdown calendars? I'm so sad! I really loved posting it on my desk at work and crossing off the days until my trip. I'm really going to miss that!

44 days! Wow! I can't recall, Tozzie, which trip are you doing this year? :cool1:

I am going on the Ireland trip and doing two pre days in Dublin.

I am really sorry but I can't post pictures right now, I am recovering from surgery and my cameras are not in my reach at the moment but let me see if I can better describe it.

The bag is brown with the ABD logo on the front it is nylon, there is a small zipper pocket on the front that would fit an ipod or small camera. the flap is held together with velcro then there are two compartments that have zipper closures, one larger than the other and the larger pocket is padded. the othe compartment has a few pockets to separate things. on the outside the there is one solid material pocket and one mesh pocket, the pocket would fit a bottle of water. the bag mesures approximately 17 inches in length and 13 inches in height. I really like the bag.

Thanks, Tozzie. That does sound cool.

Hope you're feeling 100% soon!

At first I didn't know what to use the messenger bag from 2008 for either but I've found it makes a great "purse" on the plane.

You can fit alot of stuff into it and can also bring a carryon on the plane. I use the carryon for clothes in case my luggage doesn't make it and the messenger bag for books, snacks etc.

Glad they are giving a choice this year. Sounds like a great bag

BoB, see, I already have a "purse" for on the plane. It's an extra-large Healthy Back bag, in a lightweight material. I stick my regular travel purse, electronics, snacks, medications, etc, in that, and then have a rolling carryon for the stuff I really need in case the luggage doesn't make it. I found the messenger bag to be way too heavy for me to begin with (material-wise) to work as a "purse". I should probably give it to someone, but I just hate to part with any of my ABD stuff! :confused3 (I mean, how many collapsible tote bags do I need?)

Sayhello, it probaby won't be a fulfilling as receiving the countdown calendar in your box of goodies, but you can download one from the Junior Adventurer website and then print it. There is a link at the very bottom of the ABD home page.

:thumbsup2 Oh my goodness, thanks, Bobo912!!! Not having any Junior Adventurers, I've never even looked at that site (don't know I was really even aware of it!) I really, really missed not having one for my Med cruise add-on (which they don't have, but I could have used one of the Italy ones!). I will definitely print this out & post it on my desk. I love crossing off the days as the trip gets closer!

Thanks again!

Sorry I didn't list it but the countdown calendar is included in the package.

Oh! Even better! :goodvibes We didn't get one last year for the Med cruise Add-on, and you were the 2nd person to list the box contents without the countdown calendar. So I figured it was bye-bye countdown calendar. It's a little thing, but I love them!

Thanks!

Mine came today!

I have to tell you though, I am really disappointed in the quality of the back pack. It is a nylon type of material and seems cheap. Guess it was since I put my laptop in it, put it on my shoulder and the strap started to rip. Guess I will be bringing my old trusty canvas one from Jansport!

My friends from last year was bigger and better quality.

There was also the booklet, countdown calendar and a clear TSA sized liquid zip-pack for carryon toiletries.

I received my Box yesterday! I was a little disappointed when I opened it to find 2 backpacks instead of the computer bags that I had requested. I had to call ABD on another matter so I asked about the bags. She told me that since I was a returning guest I should have received the computer bag, but since my DD is new to ABD she would have to keep the backpack. Bummer. Oh well, the rest of the contents were exciting. Its getting closer!

Oh wow! I can't wait to receive ours. It's a greet reminder that the adventure is getting closer!!!

What trips do you get the box for? We took the Med. ABD last year and did not receive these gifts
