~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Chester - Nice report. I'm glad you had a decent time.

Megan - What Cindy said about head O.K., chest not so much (although a good run does help break up some of the sludge).

CindyLou - Nice job on your last 20. Just get yourself healthy and great luck with your race!

Dave - You may want to pick a different massage therapist. I somehow can just see Jodi showing up with all sorts of tools of torture and a whacked-out grin on her face.

Jodi - Just kidding.... sort of.

Kathy and I had a great time today. We went for a hike/walk/run at Great Falls Va. It was a beautiful day and we knocked out 8 miles.

One of my favorite parts was one of the trails is called "Difficult Run".:lmao:

Figured I'd better get on here before this thread got away from me....again.

Howard - Had that test go today? I had a stress test a few years back when they mistakenly told me that I had a hole in my aorta :thumbsup2. Cool!

Lou - Um, WHY are you going to run 22 miles??? Then 18, too? You make it sound like you actually enjoy running...huh.

CindyLou - How are you feeling today? Green snot rockets abound still?:rotfl: Sounds like you're all set for that marathon - time to BQ!!!!

Dave - Good luck scheduling that massage appointment - Bruce is my official receptionist, you'll have to go through him. Go short tomorrow, don't tweak those shins anymore than they are. Hot bath afterward!!!!

HonieButt - Don't think I'll make it down to the 1/2 on Sunday, as my son & I are off to the City to see a play that day. I'll be there in spirit!:dance3: Looks like they'll just miss the rain!

So nice of her to take you along this time. What did YOU eat for lunch on Weds.?:rolleyes1popcorn::

Megan - How're you feeling??? How's your fund raising coming along?

Chester - I'm glad you're the optimistic type...I would have been ranting about how that race was handled. But it sounds like you got out of there before the mass hysteria ensued. It's not the rain aspect, but I can't imagine traveling all that way, running in the rain, then being told "keep going" then being told "n it's been canceled" then getting a medal that melted in the rain, then getting my bag back with ruined electronics in it because it was left out in the rain...phew.

I ran 7 miles this a.m. (was supposed to be 8 but ran out of time) - it was scheduled for tomorrow but it's supposed to rain so I knocked it out this a.m.
That's all I have to say.

COOL! I have a nickname! Does that make me a Bot??? :cool2:

The race starts early. Can you just come for the start??? :rolleyes1

Is it pathetic that I am begging?? :rotfl:

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm feeling okay and I will be heading home from work as soon as I get my cases done for today. My colds seem to always follow the same progression: sore throat then runny nose then a cough that lingers. I'm to the cough stage. Last winter when I had something similar, I ran about a week after my initial symptoms and felt better running than I did doing anything else. We'll see how I feel in the morning. I may only do a 5 mile run instead of the 10 that TnT has planned. At least I'll be in Valley Forge so I'll be close to home.

I'm doing okay with my fundraising. I'm up to $750. I plan on going to the Eagles game next weekend to sell some beads to the drunken tailgaters. I hope to make some good money there. I will also be doing a football block pool for the Eagles Monday night game at the end of the month. PM me if you want more info for that! ;) I sent out some more letters after begging my mom for some of her addresses and then I sent the letter out as a note on Facebook (some of you may have been tagged... :) ) I plan on sending out more notes on Facebook, and maybe doing a Pampered Chef fundraiser, but I'm not sure how much I can make with that.

Thanks for your support. I hope to see some of you at the Philadelphia Marathon!

Howard - I hope you have a great race this morning!

I'm getting ready for the Army Ten Miler. Perfect weather here - should be 52 at the start and maybe get up to 60 by the finish. I'll be back later to catch up and with a race report.

Hey all! Seems like a lot of people with colds. Go get those flu shots.

Mike - Like the "Difficult Run" pic. It's like the trail in Philly called "Forbiden Drive". You see a sign like that and think it may be a place to stay away from.

Jodi - Ran out of time? Do you have a 2-minute warning when you run or something?

Good luck Cindy and Howard!

Got in a 20-miler yesterday. The goal was 21 or 22 but I started to have some groin muscle problems around mile 16. I averaged a 9:08 pace including stops but once I started feeling the tightness the pace dropped to 9:30+. I think the PDR took a lot out of me. I haven't had this groin muscle problem all year but this always seems to happen to me before marathons. I have this LBI race on tap for next Sunday and I'm not sure what to do. I'll probably run it but will have to take it real easy. After LBI I am going to cut back on the miles in a big way. I want to get to NYC without any pain.

Lou

Good luck to everyone running today-- or more like hope the races went well.

Lou: take it easy, you want to be strong going into NYC, not limping...

Mike: I love the picture-- was it really a tough trail?

Chester: Glad you and your daughter had a good time at EEC and were able to complete it before the rain got bad. I look forward to seeing you at RftT

Dave: Nice food and wine interview and great blog. The DIS is certainly keeping you busy. I hope your shins are improving. I'll also be on the roster for RftT so would be happy to help if I can.

Jodi – I hope you and Spencer are having a nice day in the City.

Howard
– I hope your race went well and your knee is feeling ok.

Cam and Judy – I hope you had a great time scream teaming!

CindyLou – I hope you are able to beat the cold quickly and are feeling 100% for your marathon.

Chester – I’m glad you and Miranda had a good time at Everest. Will it be just you at ToT, or will Chet, Miranda, and/or Tracy be there?

Lou – Give your body some rest. Will you consider skipping LBI if you aren’t feeling 100%?

Mike
- I’m glad you and Kathy had a nice day at Great Falls (and I liked your double marathon shirt look – saw the pics on FB). Matt and I haven’t gone to the VA side in a while because we always end up wanting to hike the Billy Goat on the MD side – have you and Kathy done that?

Megan – I hope that you are feeling better this weekend.

I finished the ATM in 1:34 and change. That’s about 5 minutes slower than last year and, given my current level of fitness, I am pretty happy with that. It was a bit warmer than forecasted, but still decent weather. I do like this race – it is the third time I have run the ATM and it was actually three years ago, after watching Matt finish the ATM that I decided to start running.

First BOT fall marathon next weekend when Matt runs Baltimore.:yay: It’s weird to me that he’s running a marathon and I’m only running the half. Unfortunately, the half starts 1:45 after the full so I won’t even be able to cheer for him since we’ll probably finish running around the same time.

Howard – I hope your race went well and your knee is feeling ok.

Hi Cindy (and all the other wonderful BOTS out there!)!

I had a rough night, not much sleep before the race this morning. Charlie and I ran most (85%?) of the race together, I stopped at most of the water stops and waited for him to catch up to me when I was ahead. Towards the end, I was running ahead. At the last second with about 30 yards to go to the finish, he came up from behind , screamed my name and passed me with momentum. I couldn't catch him (not enough room to do so) and he finished at 2:04:07, I finished at 2:04:09. Here are my splits:

Ridgefield Pamby Half Marathon
Miles: 13.1
Time: 2:04:09
Pace: 9:28
Splits: 9:08, 8:58, 9:17, 9:20, 10:19, 9:38, 9:55, 9:14, 9:08, 10:32, 9:47, 9:44 and 8:54.

I felt strong throughout, had a nice kick going (different than my recent shuffle method), only walked for water stops, no knee pain or foot issues at all during the race. The weather was beautiful, humid, but beautiful. The rolling hills and streets were wet and leaf covered in some areas. We have to be careful on the downhills and turns.

Just for the record, my time was only 41 Seconds slower than my effort two weeks ago at the Philadelphia Distance Run. :thumbsup2

All in all a super great weekend!:cool1:

Dave: Cam and I are going to RFTT this weekend, let us know how we can help!

Thanks for all the well WISHes!!! Have a great week!

Jen
I forgot that you are coming down solo for RftT. Did you find a place to stay?

Chester – I’m glad you and Miranda had a good time at Everest. Will it be just you at ToT, or will Chet, Miranda, and/or Tracy be there?
Cindy
Chet and I are registered for the 13k. Tracy will be there to cheer and Miranda will be ????? I don't know what her schedule is - she probably has some soccer games to ref.

Howard
Good job! you should have had some rear view mirrors to know that Charlie was drafting behind you and then could have prevented him from slingshotting ahead at the finish.

Lou
There was a vendor at the Philly Marathon that sold compression shorts that are designed to address specific injury prone areas. They are made from a really thick spandex material and have different panel configurations depending upon the type of injury they are supposed to prevent. They have info online. I'll look up the name on my pair and let you know.

Jodi
How was the play? What did you see? How is Spencer's 1/2 training going?

Mike
The last time I was in Great Falls I was a little kid. Nice picture and glad you had a great time.

Colleen
Hey!:goodvibes

Finished week 8 of Honolulu training. Completed all 37 miles. Heading to WDW on Friday for RftT Sunday morning.

My best to you all,

Chester

Chester - I'll have to check that out. I noticed that the groin injuries I get always happen in the fall, when the weather gets colder and the runs get longer. My 20-miler in August and 18-miler in July felt much better. I'll see if I can find something like this in the running stores in Philly this week.

Man, I am feeling down today. I found out that a jogger was hit by an SUV on Saturday while running along the bike path that I run on every day. The path crosses a main road that is a .25 mile from my house. The guy was 38 years old and I think I met him recently. I met a guy my age on the path 2 weeks ago and we chatted for 2 miles about running at WDW. What's odd is that I considered running my LR on that path on Saturday but something told me to go to Philly instead.

I was pretty ticked off about the incident this morning and blasted an email to the county engineer, our mayor and my state senator. It was only 3 months ago I sent the same people an email about the same road after a young girl was killed in a car accident about a 1/2 mile from this spot. I don't expect anything but excuses from them.

Now I'm passed angry and real down about it. I drove over the spot 4 times today and saw spray paint on the road marking where he was hit. Hard to describe the feeling.

Lou

Hey Everyone,

Lou - That's a terrible story. Be careful out there. I hope the groin feels better. Remember, Jodi is available for massages if needed.

Cindy - I'm glad you had a good ATM. I'm going to have to try to remember to sign up in time next year.

We have never done the MD side of Great Falls. This was our first trip there.

Jen - Difficult Run is actually the name of the little river/stream. The trail itself was pretty ordinary (although you could turn an ankle pretty easily).

Howard - Sounds like you had a good race. I'm with Chester though. Next time you need to keep a better eye on that shifty Charlie and hip-check him if he tries to out kick you at the end.;)

Let's see. AFM: 20 on Friday, rest on Saturday, 8 tempo on Sunday, and 6 tempo-ish tonight. We'll see what Tuesday brings.

Actually, Tuesday (today) is our anniversay. 19 wonderful years for me, 19 frustrating years for Kathy. Obviously, I got the better end of that deal!

Lou - (This isn't for the groin, it's for the accident.)

Mike - We'll see who hip checks who! ;):lmao: Leave my husband out of this. He's not here to defend himself! (And thank goodness he isn't, otherwise I couldn't write all those posts about his mother! :upsidedow )

Lou- So sorry to hear about the accident. That sounds horrible. It's infuriating to know that the same thing happened before and no one did anything about it. Stay safe out there - I guess we need to all remember that. Hang in there Lou.

Bottage!

Lou - I said it on FB & I'll say it on here. Stay off of that dang road. We all, really must remember that crap like this happens all the time. Keep your eyes open, friends, please??!!!:grouphug:

I'll stick 16 gauge needles anywhere you hurt, Lou. I don't play with those pansy accupuncture needles!

Mike - When's that tow-truck marathon? RU ready? I still think you run way too much. 19 YEARS??? Wow, Happy Anniversary to you & Kathy :cheer2::grouphug: Nope, not one snyde remark outta me!

Chester - Here's hoping for better weather this weekend for RFFT - have fun! WISH I could be there. What time do you set sail? RU staying the entire weekend??? party @ Miranda's house!!!
Spence & i saw "A Steady Rain" w/ Daniel Craig & Hugh Jackman. They were great, but the play was a bit...I dunno...maybe a bit melodramatic? Seems like it woulda been a good read - just didn't transfer well to the stage, IMHO. Then again, I DID see "Zombieland" this weekend & LOVED it, so that's where MY mentality level's at!;)
Spencer's training is going well....so far :rotfl:.

Mindy - Nice job on that ATM. Sounds like it was a fun race - I'd run it, but because Bruce is a former Marine it's off limits. :rotfl2::lmao: No, really...

Dave - How's the shins? How's the new addition to the family?:yay: SO happy you adopted another kitty!! The girls must be ecstatic.

Colleen - Where's my NYC pardner been hiding??? Training or anything? Doing one more LR or calling it a day? I'm DONE. I'll run the Hartford 1/2 on Saturday & finito for me!

HonieButt - Shouldn't you be out training for your 1/2 or something??

Jen - Solo trip to the World??? popcorn:: Niiicce! I'm envious.

Howard - Excellent job in Ridgefield - I do wish I coulda been there to run with you guys. Can't believe you're going away again this weekend!! :scared1: Party @ Andrew's house!!

Ran 60 mins. yesterday, 5 miles today (cause it's gonna rain tomorrow). That's all.

So BOTs, it looks like my trip for the marathon will be mostly solo. DBF doesn't want to spend the money on it. I'll have a roommate from TnT, but will be okay to be on my own! I love solo trips!

Also, for those of you that I'm not friends with on facebook, I just scheduled a happy hour fundraiser at Mad River in Manayuck on November 6 from 7-9 for $25. Find me on facebook for more info!

When's that tow-truck marathon?
The Toe Jam marathon, a.k.a. The Towpath Marathon, is this Sunday. Kathy and I are both running the half. My sister and BIL are doing the 10K, their first race so that should be fun.

Judy - Just tell Charlie that Howard is taking pot-shots at him and I was trying to defend your poor absentee husband. See, everyone knows that with Howard's bum knee and bad foot a hip check attempt would likely incapacitate him for weeks. I'm really on Charlie's side.

Howard - Ummm... Nevermind.

Lou: I'll second the  it really makes you think when awful accidents like that happen-- stay safe.

Net much going on around here other than the usual craziness of trying to stay one step ahead of work and parenting. It hasn't really hit me that I'm going on a minivacation this weekend. I never go anywhere alone, so this is all new for me and I think I have yet to accept that I'm actually going. I did manage to find a decent rate at All Star Music, so that's were I'll be for my quick trip-- fly out early Sat, fly back late Sunday and then to work again on Mon-- can't wait to go. Gotta find time for a long run before I leave...
