~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Dave and Jodi :rotfl::lmao: keep this conversation going-- it's my only entertainment today

Join the dark side and run Goofy--- everyBOTy is doing it

Today is a kind of blah and rainy day here add to that the fact that I was up half the night with a puking kid  I'm a little off today. My stomach is a bit off too, so running may have to wait until tomorrow...

Jen - It must be going around. Marissa walked in the door from school yesterday and said "I feel sick" and proceeded to throw up all over the floor on the way to the bathroom. This went on all night. Just waiting for it to hit me.

2 out of 3 kids surveyed said they had strep throat. Well, at least at our house.

Matt and Cindy - Goofy again, huh? It is kind of hard to resist, isn't it.

Dave - The only problem I see with you doing Goofy is how are you going to pack that many Gu's? If you slurp down 6 of those suckers in a half....

Good Morning Everyone: I had a great 7 mile run yesterday. The weather was great and I felt great too. I need to build back up since the cruise.

Mike- Too funny about the GUs for Goofy. Yes, I would need a sherpa to go along with me to carry my GUs.

Colleen- Are you excited for NYC?

Lou- Hope everyone's feeling better soon.

Matt- Your training is going great for Baltimore. How'd the Race for the Cure go with Cindy?

Hello to everyone! :wave2:

Hope everyone is feeling better in Lou and Mike's households. We are finally recovered and I got in 5.5 miles last night without too much trouble.

Just wanted to share that we booked our room for marathon weekend and will be in BLT :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: We're pretty psyched to try out the new resort and have the convenience of the monorail right there. check in is only 7 months away...

Jen - Does that make Butch The Earle of Sandwich?

Good one Mike!

Jen - Should be a great place to stay for the races. I'm still debating where we'll stay.

Hey everyone!

The 12-hr stomach flu bug came and went with Marissa being the only one to get it. Did little or no work this weekend which felt nice. Went to the batting cages with Louie and a friend yesterday. I actually didn't do that bad. Man, I forgot how much it hurts to hit a baseball. My wrists are still sore.

Biked 12 miles last night. The dirt trail was really muddy so it was a bit of a workout. Ran 13.8 miles today (8:46 mpm pace) and dragged the last 4 or so. The humidity was rough.

Lou

No running for me this weekend. I think I am mirroring Jodi's work out plan. :rolleyes1:rolleyes: Seriously, I aggrivated my foot the last time I ran and I wanted to give it a few days off. I also went golfing over in Lou's general vacinity (Woolwich Township) yesterday with two other Department Directors from the Blood Bank of Delmarva where I work. It was a good time, beautiful day too. The clouds gave way to sun and it heated up a bit. I managed 44/43 for my third round of golf this season. I hit a few drives in the 290 yard range too. I think I had 5 pars and one birdie. I can live with that! Lou~ It would be great to meet up sometime to play.

I will most likely get a few miles in tomorrow night after work. Later in the week (Thurs, Fri and Sat), Cam, Andrew and I will be volunteering at the Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games at the University of Delaware in Newark. Cam and I have been involved as Committee Chairs for over 12 years for the Summer Games in addition to many other volunteer opportunities we have with the organization. I am looking ahead at the weather and it looks like a rain plan might have to be put into effect. :sad2:

Enjoy your week! I am amazed at Lou and Matt's LR's lately. I am unworthy.

All the best,

:grouphug:

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread.

What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?

How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Greetings Everyone: OK, some of you on Facebook already know about this, but I wanted to let those that aren't on FB (ahem, Mike) know about it too. I just confirmed that I'm heading down to Florida for a short trip in July with my Father. This is going to be his Father's Day present, and I'm going to take him to the Kennedy Space Center for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Man's First Steps on the Moon.

The event is July 16, 2009, and you can check out the link below for the details.
http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/apollo-saturn-v-center.aspx?ic_campID=4&ic_pkw=GH_LRO-40thEvent_June09

This is going to be a very special trip for my Dad and I. See Dad worked as an engineer for Rocketdyne (what would become Rockwell International) in California in the late 1960's. His position was to help design the engines for the Saturn V rocket the powered the Apollo mission. It's not an overstatement for me to say it was the highlight of his professional career.

On a personal note, it will be great to be able to spend some 1-on-1 time with my Dad. As you all know, my Mom passed away September 2007 (right before the Marine Corps Marathon), and Dad is very much on his own. This has been tough for my Dad, and he lives far enough away that I don't get to see him that much. So he's kind of isolated and alone, and has been having a hard time. Anyhow, I'm very excited for the trip, and Dad's very excited for the trip too. It's going to be a blast.

Good one Mike!

Lou

Well, scratch this comment. Louie got sick today and school and is home now. I'm just wondering when I'll get it.

44/43, 290 yd drives, 5 pars, 1 birdie?! I'm not worthy. It's been a long time since I had rounds like that. You'll be pulling your hair out if you play with me. I'm actually playing my first round of golf in 2 years next Friday (it's for business). Lets see how I do and maybe we can plan a round in July.

Lou~ Sorry, I was mistaken... it was 7 pars. :lmao: I had a great time and would have an equally good time golfing with you. My counterparts both shot over 100 (One had a 112), but I'm not complaining. I hope everyone in Casa Louie gets well soon!

Much to the dismay of my lovely bride Cam :sad2:, I signed up for the Philadelphia Distance Run tonight. :thumbsup2 I simply want to do it and to train for it -- come what may. I have a very full October schedule and she is worried that I am taking on too much (half, 10K, MCM). However, the PDR is September 20.... plenty of time to recover and I'll take this one as easy as necessary based on my fitness level at the time. I registered with an approximate time of 2 hours. Last year I PR'ed it in 1:50:08.

I went out for a brief jaunt in the heat and high humidity tonight after the sun went down:

Miles: 3.01
Time: 29:58
Pace: 9:58
Splits: 10:17, 10:28, 9:11

Hi to all!

Holy Arnold Palmer, Batman! I always seem to blow a good round at either the windmill or hole with the big clown's mouth. Killers every time!

Lou - Sorry to hear the creeping crude is still creeping.

Dave - That sounds like a really great trip. I'm sure you and your dad will have a great time.

Awesome Howard! Y'all should come down to NC for some nice courses and sweet tea. Jeff and I would love the company and I am sure you would be able to convince Jeff to take you out on the links.

Sorry Lou about the illness. That's the worse when it goes through the house like that.

Well, my training for NYC has officially begun. DH and I walked 3 miles last night. Yoga and weights today. Baby steps....

Hi to everyone, busy week getting ready for a home swim meet. Making my list for concessions, sugar, salt, sugar, salt, repeat...oh, we will throw some fruit and quality foods in there too.:rotfl:

Colleen - Good luck with the NYC training this summer!

The stomach flu hit Louie real bad last night. He's better this morning but real pale and very dehydrated. Normally those things come and go and you don't get too worried about it. Well, he was in bad shape (charlie horses, sunken eyes, chest pains). Glad it's over...for now.

I went out at 7:50AM this morning to run 4 miles. About .75 miles in I hear some thunder and see that the sky is black and moving towards me. The thunder got worse so I decided to head back and basically sprinted home as lightning started to strike in the distance. Got home only to find the email below in my inbox.

Just popping in to say "hello" to some of my favorite people in the world. :grouphug:

Lou -- So sorry to hear how sick Louie was. How scary. I hope he is doing better.

Colleen -- congrats on getting your training underway. Have fun at the swim meet. I miss those days. It was so much fun to help with concessions and rush over to the pool for Jenn's events to scream my bloody head off. She placed second in the B championships for our area in backstroke one summer. Pretty cool. And now she is off at Disney saving lives. LOL! She had her 11th documented "save" last week. I am sure there are at least 11 very happy parents in this world because of good WDW lifeguards.

Jodi -- Miss you! How are you, sweetie?

Mike -- Give Kathy a huge hug for me. I have been missing you guys.

Dave -- Your trip with your Dad sounds AWESOME!!! I am so glad you have the opportunity to do this with him.

Hi, to everyone I missed. I've been busy getting ready for Special Olympics Summer Games and various other commitments, but I am thinking of all of you and looking forward to January (if not seeing some of you sooner at other events).

Cam - Thanks for the well wishes. Louie is getting better. I took him out with me this afternoon and we grabbed some pretzels from the Philadelphia Soft Pretzel Factory. That was his first food in about 24 hours.

Okay, it's kind of early but I think I may be running NYC. I just sent an inquiry to a charity that I found on the NYC Marathon site that is based in Philly that I actually like. The non-profit is called Back on My Feet and I like what they do. I'll need to come up with $3000 but that's not that hard to do for a Philly charity because I can hound some clients and local businesses that I know that are more likely to donate to an organization that is close to home.

Lets see what happens tomorrow. If I get in I'll be psyched!

Lou

JODI - This is all you! I'm thinking me, you and 3 more BOTS and we have a team. What do you say???
