The "Boo to Us" Weight Loss Challenge

I can't speak for much, but evidently with my development of the sleep apnea, one of my Doctor's got into some nitty gritty of how calorie burning works and how oxygen consumption works and it is quite interesting. I gained 40 lbs in the last 2 years and that is about the time that my sleep deprivation started...I don't want to send you down the wrong path, but it is possible that if you are experiencing extra fatigue that you may have a situation with your sleep, which causes lack of oxygen which doesn't allow you to burn calories as you should....Of course I could be totally wrong too...:rolleyes1

Actually after I read your post I thought about it and realized I do sleep a lot. It's hard to say if it's because of the hours I work or if it's actual fatigue, but I have had problems in the past being overly tired etc. If things don't turn around after the holidays I will be looking into it for sure!

Right now, I feel like sinking my teeth into a white chocolate and macadamia nut cookie.

What is a WC&M cookie doing in my house?

Well, DH went to Costco this week and came back with one of their 20 or 24 cookie packs. He knows that I'm trying to be good but doesn't see any reason why he and DS needs to go on my diet as well. I see his point - the cupboard was looking like something Old Mother Hubbard would have been proud of...but still!

So, I decided to come and post here instead. :thumbsup2

I think I might just go grab a shower and get into bed. It is 9.33 pm Melbourne time; so I figure it probably is a lot safer to go to bed rather than stay up thinking about food.

ps. I went for two bike rides this week and have been pretty reasonable with food. But it is getting harder to stay on track with Christmas approaching. Anyone else having the same problem?

Christmas isn't the specific problem. We don't have lots of friends and parties, and since we don't go out to work, there is no office to tempt us with when your vendors give you gifts, coworkers bring in goodies. However, it is that time of year when all the large meats go on sale (turkey last month, Prime Rib & Ham this week). The problem is that I still have some of my big meats from last year! I made a Rib Roast last Saturday and it was six pounds. We've had open faced Roast Beef sandwiches with mashed potates and gravy twice this week. I never had one until Monday night, and it was really good! So we had them again last night.

I still have probably a pound of that roast left (I cooked it VERY rare) that I will slice into strips and stir fry it with whatever veggies I have in my fridge (zucchini, onion, pepper, celery, onion, cabbage)....

We're making my last roast from last year on Christmas Day. This year I picked up four turkeys, 2 hams and 3 prime ribs, I might go get a few more Prime Ribs before the sale is over.

It is now almost the end of Boxing Day.

Suffice to say that all thoughts of diet and calories flew out the window the last couple of days. However, at the end of Christmas Day, I headed out for a bike ride and managed to get a 5 km ride done round the velodrome. I also opted not the have dinner - not because I was trying to starve myself; but because I was literally stuffed. I have posted pictures of my Christmas Eve dinner of curry and rice with the extended family as well as my Christmas Day lunch on my October TR. And if you take a look at what was on offer, you'll understand why I chose not to eat dinner on Christmas Day. There was no way I could get another crumb into my stomach.

Today, I realised that I have 24 days before heading over to California. So, it is time to get back on the bike - literally and figuratively - and I pushed myself out for another bike ride tonight. I only managed about 3 - 4 km before I decided to give it up for a bad joke. The reason? Unlike yesterday, today there was a bit of a breeze blowing and it was really hard yakka (Australian slang for work) riding around half of the velodrome!

On a more positive note, the diet is back under control today. Whilst there is a fortune of leftovers in the fridge (particularly of the turkey breast roll), I've opted to keep within the weight watchers points guide and portion control.

Tomorrow is another story!

But I am determined to stay good and keep cycling for at least until the 3rd January. I am on leave until then and will be able to make the time for the 5 km bike ride every day. With luck and perserverence, I will continue to ride at least 3 km, if not 5 km, every day until my trip to California.

The holidays are rough on any diet. I haven't been tryign very hard at all , but on the bright side, we purchased our Wii today and EA Sports Active 2 (and Epic Mickey, but I doubt that will help with losing weight...) and we are cleaning out our cupboards on the 1st! Till then I'm not going crazy eating, but I have been a bit unrestrained...

I've given up on trying to clean out the pantry! Everytime I try, DH sneaks something back into the cupboard for him and DS. So now, I have a container just for their naughty snacks. They know it's there and can raid it anytime they want. I know it's there...I just pretend that I don't know it's there!

Santa got me an Epic Mickey as well. I started it yesteday and got stuck. Might head back and try it again! Enjoy!

We have a shelf in our pantry just for Jack, and I pretty much just ignore it. We are doing a bunch of junk foody appetizers for New Years Eve, so that should help me get my calorie fix and make me stong willed enough to clean out the pantry the next morning! I will be going back to no soda and very limited alcohol intake, and continuing the no fast food.

As for Epic Mickey, I had read some negative reviews but they seemed to be aimed at people who already are video game players, so I doubt we will have any complaints since this is our first gaming system!!

Sounds like a great plan! I haven't worked out what we will be doing NYE but it is likely to be a quiet one for us.

I'm just gonna put a post for today's efforts and then hit Epic Mickey.

I achieved my aim for a 5 km bike ride today.

I know it isn't quite the cold being experienced by Europe and Eastern USA but it is blustery and cold outside...for a Melbourne summer. I managed to get round the velodrome once and gave it up as a bad joke. The wind was worse than yesterday and I honestly felt like I could have cycled in the same spot. So, I hit the pavement and rode around the neighbourhood and I figure I achieved 5 km distance during my zig zag.

Food wise, I was pretty good as well. DH made some bircher muesli last night; so it was perfect for breakfast this morning. Lunch was leftover turkey and vegetables and I stayed within WW guidelines. Dinner is something that I am contemplating right now and might just settle for a salad and some toast.

I also tried to squeeze into my old jeans today and got thoroughly depressed. Whilst I managed to get into the jeans and do up the button, it was tight and uncomfortable all round. The jeans is the next size down and where I want to be weight wise. Getting comfortably back into those jeans is a goal I'm going to achieve next year! One day at a time.....

Boo's To Us....

Today I took a good hard look at myself in the mirror and decided that I did not want to love that extra 'flab' I'm carrying.

I am going back to Weight Watchers for a weigh-in and to re-subscribe to the new 2011 program. The thing is that I normally attend a meeting on Monday, which is tomorrow. But it is also a public holiday here...so, the meeting will not be on.

That meanst that I have about 7 days to kill. I've been struggling with this all day and decided that I WANT to lose the extra weight. My target is around 15 - 20 lbs and it's gotta start now.

So, I've just made some bircher muesli for breakfast. I took about 250g of breakfast muesli and have added 300g of organic low fat greek style yoghurt, 2 grated apples and 1 tablespoon of honey. It's in the fridge and will be ready tomorrow morning. I figure that if I make the bircher muesli, it will be staring at me tomorrow when I open the fridge and I will have no excuses to have anything else.

It's funny that you chose to revive this thread just now. Fran and I went to the gym Friday for the first time in three years or more! I thought I was going to die. :rotfl2: I swam 20 laps, yesterday I felt like I was going to die! However we agreed to go to the gym first thing Sunday morning, and then go out for breakfast. :lmao:

Regardless, establishing a regular pattern of swimming can't hurt. I was two pounds lighter Saturday morning so that's a bonus too. In about 10 minutes, I'll wake Fran and we will get dressed eat a few bites of cottage cheese and get the day started. Today I'll do 24 laps.

It's breakfast time and all I've been doing is looking at the super bacon on that thread! I better go and get my bircher muesli and stay good.

I'm glad someone resurrected this thread! I have been doing a weight loss competition here at work for the past 7 weeks... I lost 10 pounds, but I have been stuck in a rut the past 3 weeks! I am hoping that woth the warmer weather this week, my winter diet depression will lift!

Hi Steph...Hope you're well. 10lbs? Well done! :cool1:

I need to get dedicated again. All I've done is sit on my bahooki.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and, among other things, I plan to ask for advice on weight loss. I'm mostly okay with how I am, but I don't want to be the 400 pound old lady in the nursing home who needs 4 CNAs to turn her.

And in my mind, this is how I see us...:thumbsup2
