The "Boo to Us" Weight Loss Challenge

This looked like a fairly good thread to introduce myself and get involved since my wife and I also have a "boo" timetable for our next trip. I've gotten rather used to being one of the few men in a weight-loss venue. I've let myself stall out on the weight loss front since my last visit.

I was never "pooh-sized." Pooh would have looked at me and patted my belly with a look of wonderment and asked where ever did I find so many honey jars. I was 406 lbs at my worst. With the health problems that come with that and the prospect of my first WDW trip in over a decade and the first with my wife, something needed to be done. We started just by walking more and eating less and about 50 lbs came off for that trip...but it still beat the heck of us both. We joined Weight Watchers for a while and had very good success until I decided that weight-loss wasn't enough, I wanted to be fit again. We began running, ran a few 5k races and liked it.

So we began training for the (now last year's) Wine & Dine Half-Marathon. We trained hard, had a great time and felt very proud of ourselves. Then things went a little sideways. When a workout churns through 1000-2200 calories, it's tough to continue to lose weight AND have enough energy. So I pretty much stopped losing weight. In the lead-up to the half, I lost over 160 lbs, in the year since, only another 9.

So, we are headed back to WDW and I want to be the leanest and fittest I have ever been. I've been eating Chris Carmichael's eating program, running my butt off and feeling good about me.

Currently: 237 lbs. and looking to lose about another 50 lbs. more.

Hello! Welcome to the thread!

Congrats on all that weight loss.

Hope to see you around here more.

Welcome!!!! That is some impressive weight loss!!! I will have to google this Chris Carmichael to see what it's all about! My downfall right now is exercise. With my new schedule I am always tired (I get up at 5 to get DS to daycare by 6:30 so I can get to work by 7, get out at 3:30, pick up DS and get home by 4:15) and i am usually in bed by 9 ( I am NOT a happy person on fewer than 8 hours of sleep). Luckily with fall right around the corner it won't be hard to get motivated to get outside for walks, and eventually runs! When's your trip? Do you have a PTR?

Today... was a not so good day. Today we had our work celebration. We are celebrating our recent upgrade to AAA four diamond status (we are a hotel), our incredible occupancy levels (we have been sold out probably 80% of the past 3 months, and all of the staffing transitions, as well as functioning for 2 days without power. We had a lot to celebrate. And since it was a potluck there was lots of food. I actually probably didn't do too badly, I had a couple bites of everything I wanted, but not too much. But we are also havign Thai for dinner tonight, pineapple fried rice is in my future, and I am pretty sure it's not "diet". I am loading up on water though so I won't be as hungry when it gets here, and I won't eat so much. Let's hope it works! It's currently about 100 degrees outside, so a walk is not in the plans, but the weather is going to be changing pretty drastically this weekend, so that will help for the coming weeks!

So where do you live? Were your outages Irene related? That's great for ur hotel, and congrats for restraint at the potluck!

That's funny about your schedule, you might as well be Australia compared to mine! You're in bed by the time I'm getting home to start dinner. I'm just going to sleep when you're waking up. By the time I've had breakfast, fed the kids and starting my day you're just getting off work! :lmao:

Yeah Steph....enquiring minds wanna know where this hotel is. Who knows? We might come a-visiting some time...

Checking in on Saturday.

I've spent about 2.5 hours weeding my garden today. I would have done a bit more; except DH decided that he was going to mow the lawn. And I suffer from hay fever...so I packed it in and let him have the run of the garden. I think I'm going to be tired later.

I know I should have gone for a bike ride today but in the end, I've run out of time.

But I've been really, really, really good today with my food. Just had a lamb and spinach borek for breakfast with coffee whilst I was at the market.

Lunch was 2 hard boiled eggs with 1 piece of bread.

Dinner is going to be rice porridge, some pickled chinese mustard stir fried with celery and salted ducks egg.

Hope you are all staying on track today. If not, tomorrow is another day. :thumbsup2

I live in Kansas City, and our outages were weather related, ( huge thunderstorms) but can't be blamed on Irene, lol. Lightning actually struck out substation. I heard that from the engineers on property, but other than that, I have no idea what happened. :lmao: I work at a casino hotel here.

I have been through so many different schedules, working overnights, working 3 pm-11pm, working 10 am - 6 pm... It gets hectic. But in this position we are in a 6 month roation so in January I will start working 12-8 pm which will be easier in some ways.

This is very frustrating! I eat healthy and hardly anything and still no results! :headache:

Busy day today, so no time to chat...

Carmichael is a trainer/dietician. His biggest success story is Lance Armstrong. I figure anyone who can keep that man fueled correctly is doing something pretty well. Exercise REALLY is tougher when children are in the picture, it's an amazingly tough balancing act. My wife and I chose not to have any so the good news is, I have time to exercise...the down side should be obvious as Disney fans. I didn't do a PTR but that might well change.

Today... was a not so good day.

Possibly but it didn't sound *bad*. Some days, it's all about context, was it something that you plan on repeating on a frequent basis? Did you faceplant? Life still happens and keeping a good frame of mind is more important that a few extra calories you might have eaten.

Nearly the end of the day on Sunday. It's Father's Day here and we ended up doing a very quiet celebration at home this morning with breakfast. We contemplated going out for breakfast but ended up with a later morning start than expected (long story).

So, DS and I fixed scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast. By WW standards, I think I had a 4 or 5 point breakfast.

Lunch was leftover rice porridge with the pickled mustard and salted eggs. (After a comment by Usnuzulose on a different thread, I've decided to post pictures where I've got them). I'm pretty sure that this one would come in under 5 WW points.

I had some grapefruit, picked from my own garden, and strawberries for afternoone tea; with some hot tea.

Dinner was tom yum noodles. I used bean thread vermicelli instead of rice vermicelli. Believe it or not, the bean thread vermicelli are 0 calories! I'm estimating about 5 points for dinner.

I still can't break this habit of an after dinner sugary snack. Just finished a cup of tea with 2 Tim Tam biscuits (4 points!)

But tomorrow is a whole new day!

I should have taken a picture of last nights dinner! My breakfast was a bowl of Fiber One and V8. Lunch was a personal CPK pizza (about 400 calories). Dinner was 2 chicken breasts pounded thin and stuffed with 1/4 of ricotta (skim), feta, 1/2 an egg and 1/2 a cup of spinach. The filling was for both breasts. I cooked then in a pan on high heat for 3 min per side and then finished them in the oven. I made a pan gravy with chicken broth, 1/4 cup wine & 1 tbl of mustard. I served this over 1/2 cup egg noodles with a cup of broccoli on the side. I sliced the breasts and each person ate 3 segments. We still have 2 left with some broccoli and noodles.

I am still within the same pound and a half! :headache:

I was so good today! For breakfast I had yogurt, V8 and cantaloupe for breakfast. I ate the last two pieces of stuffed chicken for lunch, dome watermelon for a snack and grilled tri tip, with zucchini and salad for dinner. I tried but it seems I did not give enough to the cats as I ate!

YAY for being good but are your cats on a diet too??? :rotfl2:

It's nearly dinner time here....and I might need to come back tripping in time at some later stage if I end up with pictures.

Breakfast this morning was 1/2 punnet of strawberries with 2 tablespoon of low fat vanilla yoghurt. Nice combination to have....for 4 points.

But that meant that I needed a substantial snack for morning tea time. And as I was having coffee (skinny weak latte = 1.5 points) with a friend of mine, I got a yoyo biscuit. I figure I was up for 3 points (being extremely generous about the points here because it was a small cookie).

Lunch was leftovers of the Tom Yum noodles.....5 points.

DS and I split a punnet of strawberries for afternoon tea (2 points). It's the start of strawberry season here and they are particularly nice and sweet right now.

Dinner tonight will be Dory fish fillets, which I'll bake/steam in the oven in a foil parcel. I've placed some carrots, ginger and chinese cabbage in the parcel with soy and oyster sauce. There's about 3 - 4 points in there.
I'm also making 2 side dishes to go with this. The first is a broccolini stir fry, which I'll cook with some oyster and soy sauce. I'm guessing 1 points?
The second is warm snow peas and cherry tomatoes salad, which will be fried with a sweet chilli and soya sauce dressing. I'm guessing 2 points.

If I get the chance, I'll trip back later and post pictures of dinner.

I'm determined that there will be no sweet snacking later today. Given that I had the yoyo cookie earlier in the day, I'll be using that as motivation for no snacks....and having posted here, I'll make sure that it is the stick for me!

Yeah! for the pics. Boy I need to jump on board, I need to figure out stuff for exercise as my foot has a fallen arch and as of lately it makes it rough for walking. Soon it will be to cold for swimming. Yucky weekend for the eating right now. I have to figure out my food stuff after this weekend.

YAY for being good but are your cats on a diet too??? :rotfl2:

No they aren't, but I ate what I didn't give them! I did take pictures. Maybe I'll post them. Got to get up and going today, we're going to Disneyland! The problem is today is one of those dreaded "event" meals. If I fill up on salads, vegetables and shellfish on the buffet, I'll be stuffed before dessert and therefore will not fill up with those calories.

Checking in with my day.

Breakfast was a blueberry bagel and skinny latte. I got them to put the butter on the side and ended up smearing the barest trace of it on. Probably 4.5 points for breakfast.

Morning snack was another coffee - 1.5 points.

Lunch was a spicy lamb pide. About 5 points.

I had a piece of fruit for afternoon tea - 1 point.

Dinner was leftover tom yum noodles. I did cook rather a large serving. On the plus side, DH and I finished the leftover noodles tonight. 5 points.

Oh - I did indulge in a sweet snack tonight with a cup of tea. I ended up having 2 milk arrow root biscuits for a total of 1 point. I figured that if I was going to need tha sweetness, I was going to eat something that was low points.

That's it for today.

Tomorrow is a whole 'nother day!

I'm grumpy...bad day at work. Too long and really....it would be TMI.

I've come home and am trying to de-stress on the Dis. I so wanna grab something to eat...but I've resisted the temptation for the last 3 hours now and I think I'm over the worst of the emotional craving.

So.....Checking in with my food today. I've been pretty good with food today.
Breakfast was the only meal that I indulged...grabbed a mixed berry muffin with my coffee. I'm going to call it 8 points.
Aside from that, lunch was a nice bowl of Vietnamese Pho, about 5 points.
Afternoon tea was a mandarin. 1 point.
Dinner was at mum's. She cooks rice, curry and stir fries on Wednesday nights and the family goes to her place to have dinner. I completely cut down portion size tonight and figured my dinner cost me about 6 points.

I've come home and made myself a cup of tea....and have NOT had anything sweet to go with it. Been sitting here stewing about work but I think I'm finally ready to let it go.
It's been tough fighting the nibble cravings; but I figure I need to get real serious about sticking to the plan. Despite how the day went at work, I'm going to mark this one down as a win for me.

Tomorrow is a whole 'nother day!
