I rewatched this last night for the first time in years, and was completely saddened at how young, beautiful, and talented Whitney was then, compared to what drug use has done to her now. It made me think, what could she have accomplished if she would have stayed clean? Such a clear, pure, emotional voice, she really could have had it all...

Funny, dh and I was talking about that the other day.

She might very well be, but her career trajectory was certainly shall we say "off course" for a very long time due to her personal issues. I would LOVE to see her make a serious comeback, but have to wonder how much the movie (silly as it was) reflects the pressures a "star" is under, and if she could handle being under that kind of pressure again without relapsing. In the meantime, I'll listen to my copy of the soundtrack (which I dug out, on tape, believe it or not!), and remember her the way she was.

I saw her in her very first solo concert way back when. I agree, she was beautiful with great potential back then. Sad isn't it?

I can't imagine having seen her in her first concert. That must have really been something. I can't even look at pictures of her all skeletal and wasted looking. I'd rather picture her with 80s hair and Kevin Costner by her side:thumbsup2 .

Although it is funny to watch movies set before technology, no cell phones, no cordless phones, no computers, "as primitive as can be" (ha). I seem to remember it being pretty scandalous for showing an interracial relationship, and that's why they had them not live "happily ever after".

I bet when it was filmed, she was already on her downward spiral it just wasnt visible to the camera yet

It was and she was AWESOME. She had the crowd on their feet at the end with a huge standing ovation. She really rocked the house with that powerful voice. She was so gracious as well, almost embarrassed and shy, saying how much she appreciated everyone coming to her own first concert. It was very nice to see.

I thought she was clean again
Me, too. Hard to keep track, though.

I thought that movie was terrible. Good songs, baaad movie. But that's me.

I really liked Whitney. As a teen, I wanted to BE Whitney. I still like her songs.

But she wanted to be a druggie and that's her perogative. ;)

She is clean but unfortunately so many years of drug abuse have taken it's toll. I saw her at a benefit maybe 18 months ago. Her skin is waxy (hard to describe) she is extremely gaunt and her voice just didn't seem to have the power it had in her early years. She just looked extremely "Old"

Oh I completely agree on the movie, if it was made today, Lifetime would be buying the rights for their movie channel:rolleyes: It was really the two stars who carried the movie, no question about it...

She has (had) an awesome voice, but she was never a good actress. The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife, nope, nope, nope.

The best thing she did in each movie was sing.

I completely agree that she isn't a good actress and I only liked the movie because of the music.

Ohhhhhhh, I love that movie and loved THAT Whitney.......her getting all involved with Bobby Brown was just sad. :sad2:

Years ago I used to watch the Arsenio Hall late night talk show. It was so funny. He was so funny. This was in the early 80's. Arsenio LOVED Whitney and would have her on often as a guest. She was so meek and mild and all she really did was smile at him during the whole interview and I would think how perfect a couple these two would make as he thought she was just so awesome and told her that as well. ::yes::

FF to her becoming involved with BB....:scared: Whitney changed and changed allot. She was no longer the Whitney from the 80's or the Whitney from The Bodyguard. Did anyone remember seeing BB and WH interviewed on tv with Diane Sawyer back in 2002, she seemed so sad. :sad1:

Then I caught some of her reality show (last year) with BB and saw her farting and burping on a regular basis. :crazy2:

I am just so glad now that she is no longer with BB. :headache:
