The Boathouse Opening & Amphicar Pricing

I guess I still think it would be fun. Not an every trip experience, but my DH would think the amphibicar would be so very cool. @ $33 per person for 20 minutes, would think it is just as affordable as the Character balloon for $18 and 6 minutes. Will see if we can manage it on our May trip as an anniversary surprise!

I just might check out the Boathouse Bar and lounge while I'm there in April.

The cars look like fun but I'm not willing to pay their price. I'll just watch them.

I was really hoping to surprise my fiancée with this on our October trip but I can think of several things I'd rather spend $100 on when this would only last for 20 minutes. If it were an hour, maybe. But definitely not for 20 minutes.

Wow, really expensive.

You can do a tour like this in DC for $35 a person ($25 for kids). DC Duck Tours. It tours you around the streets of DC, then go into the water and shows you more sites that way. And it's 90 minutes long. And you're actually looking at something, unlike this one.

I did that in DC on a high school trip at least 15 years ago. It was the coolest thing ever! Seeing as how we are a family of 5 this is something we will not be doing at Disney, too expensive!

I have been looking for a menu the past few days and 'Stitch' continues to tell me the page has been eaten.....

Can anyone locate a menu for Boathouse??
Post 41 says there's one in the MDE.

'Stitch' keeps popping up to me on MDE without a menu.
Me too.

It's snot the worst that could happen, tho'...

So I just went to a phone to review the menu for the Boathouse (not to be confused with Boatwright's).......

$3.5 per oyster is on the high end.

Curious how a side of mushrooms and a side of asparagus can be a combined cost ($21 each/$42 combined) more than most entrees. Maybe it's just a way to over-charge vegetarians.

Most entree prices looked consistent with Disney Signatures. No other surprises, save maybe the $100 caviar and $10 children's desserts.

No whole fish on the menu I saw. Then again, some of the on-line menus are merely a limited list of available options.

Frankly, until I see reviews or go there myself, the menu mostly seems to be on par with Flying Fish, albeit, with a few up-selling menu options.

We just so happen to be in WDW on April 13 and that is our "down day", so we are planning on going and trying to get in for lunch or dinner. I haven't even seen a menu yet, but it will be fun to try something new. I showed my DS7 the amphicar video and he is so excited. We are a family of 3, so we'll do it. It's not like I've never overspent on something at WDW before! The $21 asparagus, though?! Now, they've crossed the line! :)

Maybe he is snacking on the asparagus. :-)

$100 is way too steep for the car boat ride thing. I could see it as a novelty thing. Not sure how long it will last at those prices. Makes me wonder how the set up is--does the restaurant own the cars? Do the drivers? Does this rate cover paying them, car maintenance (or car rental), and the not mentioned liability coverage?

I don't see this as a sustainable activity. But then folks paid hundreds for a ride along in a stock car and that lasted several years.

The asparagus I as expensive as some of the main dishes. Weird.

Don't see much I'm interested up in trying here - neither to eat or to ride. This is a definite pass for us on our next trip.
