Thanks LWcalif,
I see you are traveling from Ca to WDW. We are thinking of traveling to DL in 2009. Can you give me the reason you are coming so far east when DL is much closer ?

My husband and I are planning on going to WDW in December 2008. We live in Southern California and are DL annual passholders. I absolutely love Disneyland, but there are certain things that WDW has that aren't in California. This will be a big trip for us, unlike just a short day trip to DL. In particular, I can't wait to experience Mickey's PhilharMagic and Stitch's Great Escape. Not to mention Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and MGM... Boy, I am so excited. I can't wait!

Hey gang...I was about to give this thread a bump up, thanks for taking care of it, tonyspad :thumbsup2 !

Elitravelor: Are you back from your trip yet? Don't forget to post your review of the garden suite!

To all those headed out to the World soon - Have a wonderful trip, look forward to hearing back from you when you return.

Thanks LWcalif,
I see you are traveling from Ca to WDW. We are thinking of traveling to DL in 2009. Can you give me the reason you are coming so far east when DL is much closer ?

I live in Northern Calif. So it's an 8 hr. drive to DL (or 1.5 hr. flight). We have family in S. Calif. and have been to DL more times than I can count. Went to WDW for the first time in 1997. It was to be our only trip there, so we splurged and stayed at GF. Well, we fell in love. Can't tell you how many vacations since then have been planned for somewhere else, only to end up being changed to WDW. We're hooked! Friends and family don't understand why we keep going back. We've given up "explaining". Stayed at BWI CL for the first time last year and had the best vacation ever. So we're returning again this year.

You will enjoy DL. It's a magical place! We've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Calif. There is also the Paradise Pier. All are on the Disneyland property and surround Downtown Disney and are within walking distance to DL & Calif. Adventure. There are also many hotels both within walking distance or have resort shuttles to DL parks.

To answer your question, we've been to DL so many times, our discovery of WDW just seemed to make our Disney experience so much better. :)

Hello!

I just returned from the BWI and wanted to write about a standard view room. We did not request anything special other then to have connecting rooms with my parents. We had rooms 3220 and 3222. We were on the 3rd floor and basically above the garden suites. The view from our balcony(3222) was the quiet pool and the Eiffel Tower.

It was amazing to watch the Illuminations fireworks from our bed. I have a 22 month old so some nights she was just done by then and it was a little noisy on the balcony for her.

It was a looong walk from the elevator but we found a set of stairs that took us right to the garden suites and quiet pool so we used those quite a bit. The stairs in the hallway were right above the Arcade and ESPN. We also could smell BBQ every night. Figured it must be ESPN or Spoodles. The smell was strong in the hallway.

We used both pools and while the weather was HOT! the only thing we all felt was lacking was more food options. We stayed 9 nights and coming from the West Coast did not want to eat until later on some nights and both at the parks and at the BWI not much is available. Believe me though we made do!!!

Transportation was fine. We took the boat to MGM and occasionally to Epcot if we were tired and the boat was at the dock if not short walk over. The buses were all quick and we never seemed to wait more then 10 minutes for the right one.

We have stayed at the GF, BC, Poly, and CS, We would definately return to the BWI!

Any other questions?

Hello Everyone! So sorry it took so long to report back from our BWI Garden Suite stay. The home front has been a little crazy here. My school year started 2 days after our vacation and we had a death in the family--and today our son is heading back to college. So this will be a little brief--but I will be back!

We--DH, DS 21 and DD 11 and myself--stayed in the suite for the week of 9/18-9/25. For us, the room was great. We loved the two bathrooms--it is 1and 1/2 really--no shower downstairs. Our kids used the wet bar area and the bathroom for all their cosmetics, teeth brushing, hair fixing etc and showered upstairs. Having the two spaces was key. We used a roll away bed for DD and DS used the pull out sofa. They loved it--turn down service had each bed all ready for them each night and our bed area was also all set upstairs. Yes, it is open to first floor--like a loft--but it was so much more space than the deluxe room we had at the BC. Our room was way at the end, behind the quiet pool and next to the stairs that we could take to the lounge. We never heard a single person all week when we were in our room. We had asked for a balcony but we did not get one. We loved the room but we felt a little removed from the Disney magical theme. We have stayed at the Tree Houses, WL, BC,and Poly. In the WL,Poly and BC, we had balconies with great views. With the BWI, we loved the ability to walk to Epcot and MGM --and you could see Paris in certain spots--and the resort is beautiful, grand and elegant. It would be hard to stay anywhere but in the Epcot area for us. The kids said they would like to put the garden suite at the BC!! :thumbsup2

I really have to get the gang going to drop off DS--but I will be back. Promise!!:goodvibes

Welcome back, Elitravelor! I'm sorry to hear of the loss in your family, with that and your son heading back to college you must have your hands full. Thank you for posting your review so quickly.

I do have a few questions, when you can get to them.
- Was the sofa bed comfortable, and was it enough room for 2 people?
- I'm sorry you didn't get the balcony room you requested, I'm still hoping for it. Did you notice how the entry to those rooms worked? I'm still unclear as to whether or not they have a private entrance.
- Did the rooms seem very far from the lounge?
- Would you choose this room type when staying at the BWI again, or do you now prefer the location of the deluxe rooms on the boardwalk?
- How was the food offerings in the lounge?
- Did you eat at any of the nearby restaurants (specifically Flying Fish and Spoodles), and how was it?

I guess I have a lot of questions  . Thanks again for checking in.

Thanks Dis Ohana. It has been a tough summer but our disney trip was wonderful.

Our DS slept on the sofa bed and he said it was fine. He is not picky though as he has sailed with the tall ships for weeks in a little bunk and hiked in Europe with friends. Don't get me wrong-- he knows and likes the good stuff when traveling with us :rotfl2: --but he is not picky. I do not know if two people could use it---depends on age and size. The roll away was actually nice and good sized. It was not a fold up deal but a twin bed on wheels that we just left set up all week.

I was a little disappointed at first about the balcony but it was so hot and we were out so much that I did not miss it. We drank our coffee upstairs in our bedroom as we talked and got ready and let the kids sleep in for another 30 minutes or so. We could have a light on etc and basically not bug the kids downstairs. I am sure little kids would wake up--but my older kids just slept!
I would not stay with little kids in this type of room--too far away, they would be by the door etc. The balcony rooms have their own entrance and look across the quiet pool area. The balcony is a little recessed, only on the second floor so it is not like looking over the boardwalk or a water feature happenings. It is very quiet back in the suite area.

For us, the lounge was not too far away because we just went out our gate, through a door (with your key to open) and up a couple of flights of stairs to the hallway where the lounge was located. We didn't mind but with little kids--no! DH ran each day at about 6:45 to get coffee and then we always hit the lounge for breakfast. We planned ahead so we didn't go back to the room after breakfast as we headed right out to the parks to save a trip. The kids were able to run anytime for drinks, snacks etc. We would stop back after being out all day for a cold drink. Sometimes the guys would grab wine/beer with some appetizers to bring back to the room for when the gals were still getting ready for the evening adventure. That was a bit tricky but doable. DH thought he wouldn't have done it without DS to help.

The lounge itself could be crowded at times. We always found a couple of chairs and moved a couple together if we had to. Most of the people were polite, friendly etc--no poor behavior as someone else had previously posted. Although, one evening, a group of adults were sitting at a sofa area with bathing suit attire and they had drapped wet towels on the backs of their chairs. I know the towel was wet because I brush against it going by to get a glass of wine--yuck! The staff was great --always talking to us, clearing dishes, getting more food/drinks ready. Overall it was a friendly, comfortable place to be. It was a lot quieter than the beach club.

The food at the lounge was fine. Breakfast was fruit, cereal, bagels, danish,yogurt--plentiful and delicious. The evening appetizers were very good--food from Flying Fish, Spoddles and ESPN. We didn't always make it for this but what we had was good.Cheeses, crackers, dips, hummus, veggies along with hot stuff. The hot stuff--corn chowder, mini burgers, chicken fingers, lamb kabobs, muscles, hot wings,--was yummy. Plentiful and presented very nicely. We had the meal plan too and it was too much food ! And let me tell you putting on my school clothes this week proved that!:rolleyes1

We did not eat at the BW restaurants this time. We loved the Flying Fish during our last trip and wished we had made a reservation for this time. It looks beautiful.

Overall, we are glad we stayed in the Garden suite ( DH especially! ) because it met our needs. However, the kids said they liked the BC better for the pool and the overall design. I did not like the pool area at the BWI. I think the BWI was quieter than the BC in general. The BWI felt more spread out because the lobby was on the second floor and we used different doors to travel about.

Hope this answers some of your questions. Feel free to ask more!!:goodvibes

Thank you so much for your detailed report. I'm glad you had a good time on your trip and that you were happy with your decision to stay at the BWI. We have two teenagers as well, and I agree, if they were younger children we probably wouldn't choose the garden suites. We won't be using the pools since we are traveling in December, so that won't be an issue for us. The lounge sound fabulous, I'll have to make sure we're around for the evening offerings.
Thanks again for posting your report!

I have another question! I heard that many of the deluxe resorts were refurbished recently to include a new flat screen tv, was this the case in your garden suite room?

I think I read on these boards that BWI is scheduled for renovations next year (fall maybe?) - that's probably when they will put in new tv's.

I guess we'll miss having those brand new TVs since we're going in December. We rarely ever watch it while on vacation anyway, the only reason it was a concern is because it is the NFL playoffs and my son is a huge fan. I told him that we can go to ESPN on Monday night to watch a game, he's happy :goodvibes

Hi everyone, This thread is great! We are going to book a standard concierge room for a girls only trip for the beginning of May. I have read here that the Deluxe Concierge rooms are split between the 3rd and 4th floors. Is this also true for the standard concierge rooms or are they all on the 4th floor. I want to know if being on the 4th floor should be a request or if it is guaranteed, Thanks for your help!

I have gone for my girls only trip the pat 8 years. Six of these trips at the the BWI. You are going to have a ball!! The standard rooms are all on the 4th floor and have a great view of the garden area. This past trip we did a deluxe room on the 3rd floor and it was so well worth the extra money. There are 3-4 of us that go and the extra living space was great. The balcony was huge and we looked out over the BW. You will not regret your choice. The CMs at the Innkeeper's Club are wonderful and wicked fun to talk to.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if anyone found out when the refurb was going to be done. Or has it already been done? I love the BWI, we are going in January and staying in a deluxe room. I did request 4th floor.

Thanks so much KerryCM- You have me really thinking about the deluxe Concierge rooms now! I would love the extra space! So, is garden view the only view you can get with a standard concierge room or is there a chance to get water or Boardwalk view? I will have to talk to the girls and see if they are interested in the deluxe rooms. Looking out over the Boardwalk would be fantastic! Thanks again

My husband and I stayed in a deluxe concierge room in March and loved it. We were on the third floor right above The Flying Fish. I don't remember the room number but it was perfect. We could sit on the balcony and watch all of the activity going on down on the boardwalk. We were right above the center off the boardwalk activity. I would love to have that room again. The staircase leading up to the fourth floor and the lounge was very close to the room. The space and view was definitely worth taking the stairs to the lounge. You could also take the elevator but it was a little farther of a walk.

diznee3, You will need to book a stanard room with a BW view. Those rooms really are the most fun. I love having the deluxe room because I always plan a little surprize for my friends. One year Chef Nick arranged a creme brulee party all set up in our room. I do like the 3rd floor deluxes as opposed to the 4th floor.
When are you going? We usually do our girl thing late April early May because of the flower and garden festival.

KerryCM, Oh my god..The creme Brulee party sounds great! What a good friend you are! Creme Brulee is my favorite. I think I am going to go ahead and book a Deluxe room and not tell my friends. They will be surprised to see the size of the room and I'm sure they will love the Boardwalk view! Why do you like the third floor rooms better? How are they different from the 4th floor rooms? We are going May 1st -may 5th. It would be great if we were going at the same time! We could all meet in the lounge for a drink!
