The Boardwalk Inn Information Thread

KOOK - Just a couple of days ago I went back to page one of this thread and could not believe it was started in 2002 and thought someone needs to make a new thread. I have read so many of the resort threads from beginning to end...... CR, BC, WL and a couple more with each new resort consideration and I totally agree it is time for a new BW thread. You did a wonderful job on the other threads KOOK, if your up to the challenge I say "Go For It!"
I think the only other resort that I have researched that has a thread as old as this one is All Star Sports.

I have pictures some from our trip in 1993 of the Boardwalk area before it was built, with construction fences guarding it and a huge Boardwalk painted across. We were staying across the way at the Beach Club. I should find them and post them here.

Instead of creating a new thread, can we find out if the user that created this thread still exists and if not, see if the mods will allow somebody else to update the first page?

Brunette-We have never stayed at the GF but I can tell you that you will never find a better group of cast members than the ones that work in the Innkeepers Club at the Boardwalk. The resort is so relaxing anyway. Then when you can add in sitting in the lounge after a day in the park, watching Illuminations from the lounge if you do not feel like hoofing it over to EPCOT, and the friendliness of the cast members, you can't go wrong.
The breakfast is more than plenty to start out. The homemade potato chips, cookies, and crackers are a nice quick snack if you need one in the afternoon. We are rarely there that time of day but once in awhile stop in between events. The evening offers have changed over the years. I used to love when they had a variety from each restaurant different nights. ESPN Club used to do wings and sliders, Flying Fish would handle a couple days, then Spoodles in the good ole' days would even it out. The offerings today are good, just not the same. I have my sentimental ways;) In the end, you will love the Boardwalk Club level.:lovestruc

Hi! Thanks so much for your response!! Let me ask a dumb question. LOL! How do you like the CL at the BWI? Do you have any pictures of the offerings there? How does it compare to the GF? Thanks so much! LOVE THE PICS! :)
Since I've been reading every page of this thread today, I'm able to re-answer your question with a response that was posted in '09 by ClareH which addresses your question about RPC Vs. BWI.

I've stayed at the GF RPC and BWI CL and I far prefered BWI (although GF was of course still very nice).

The evening food offerings at the BWI are more what I would call 'substantial' and included (when I was there in May) chilli, pulled pork, fish and rice (very tasty), beef skewers, chicken skewers, prawn skewers, chowder. Re. the skewers they were 'full size' as opposed to the more canapes size at the GF, the hot food items were served in large containers and you just filleld your own bowl/plate, rather than the 'cute' little individual plates at the GF. In addition there were 'cold' items each evening, various cheeses with crudites, pitta bread with dips including hummus.

Breakfast usually consisted of 3-4 cereals, bagels, pastries, fresh fruit (melon, pineapple), yoghurt - bread was also available upon request.

Unlike the GF there is no champagne but we enjoyed the wines on offer. BWI had the most delicious chocolate covered strawberries every evening, along with other little deserts.

BWI does not have afternoon tea but they have snack items out such as popcorn and cookies. However, the evening pastries/deserts were lovely.

I much preferred the BWI evening food offerings over the GF.

Does anyone else think that we need a new and improved home? This thread was created TEN YEARS AGO and the first page hasn't even been updated SINCE 2005:sad2:
Yes! A new updated version would be great. We are booked for BWI this Spring and it would be great to see this thread updated.

Hey there CR Resort Fan 4 Life!

Do you have any pictures you want to share from your most recent trip at the Boardwalk Inn? Would love to see them. I also would like to know about the offerings at the CL to if possible.

Thanks!
Brunette
I have some pictures on my BlackBerry that I would need to e-mail to myself or another e-mail address to post them. However for whatever reason I have been trouble trying to just do that, so once I get that problem fixed I can post them.

Since I booked our 2012 BWI stay last year, I've been asking many questions here and you have all been so kind to try and answer them. But, I've been thinking that we could really use an updated first page with photos and more current general resort information.

I created the WL/VWL thread this past summer (and Waldorf Astoria/Hilton Bonnet Creek back in '09) and I'd be happy to put something together that would be up-to-date if you guys think that would be helpful.

I do have some of my own BWI photos from August '11 and I would also use the wonderful photos that have been posted here and give attribution to the photographers. There is a lot of BWI info. out there and on this thread, it just needs to be found and organized so that it's useful to anyone seeking information and/or photos. I would also add many more photos after our August '12 stay.

What do you all think? I'd love to read your suggestions and thoughts on this.
I think a new thread would be great and anything I can do to help please let me know. I have some pictures on Photobucket that I took in the past which can be used.

Regarding a new thread, I think the reason this one is so old is that for a while, the active thread was this one:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2357273

However, that one doesn't have any real substantial info on the first page like the GF and CR threads that are normally active, and it was totally dead since October until it was just bumped today.

There is also a separate Villas thread in the DVC section, but that's common for the other joint resorts as well. Especially lately, this thread has been much more active than that one.
That one is at:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1300921

I think it's a good idea to create a new thread, ask to close this one and that first link, and just list the links on the new first page for anyone who wants to do the past research.

It's good to have an active thread starter who is willing to update the front page as needed with new reference info that would be useful for a first time reader. Feel free to use any of my pics as well.

Thanks for volunteering!!!

I see our first page here still references spoodles. Good to stay active! ;)

I finally reached page 193! Read through 10 years of posts in order to copy/paste relevant room type/location info. and photo links for a new and updated thread.

Hi! I think you do an outstanding job posting pictures and information pertaining to the WL. I SAY YES! I think most people would love to see an updated thread regarding the Boardwalk! Things change and this thread is nearly 10 years old! Would love to see a new and fresh thread about all things Boardwalk! :goodvibes Brunette
NEW and FRESH it will be, brunette8706!

It would be great to have a "before" photograph of BWI. If you PM the photo to me, I can post it to the first page of the thread. Let me know how you would like me to attribute the photo to you.

I think a new thread would be great!
New thread it is, mirage0306!

Spring is coming up soon! I'll have to work quickly to get this up and running for you, scoutsmom99.

Thank you for your offer. I've copied and pasted links to your photos (and many others') into my thread draft. If you have some that you didn't post to the thread, then you can PM those to me if you'd like.

You're welcome and thanks for your photos for the thread. Threads that are inactive automatically make their way to the bottom of the list or they are closed when they reach jumbo thread status at around 250 pages.

I see our first page here still references spoodles. Good to stay active! ;)
What's that?:rotfl:

Yay!! Now that's dedication! :flower3:
Well, I know how important it is for guests to know about room locations in order to make a request, so I copied every post and photo link that referenced a specific room number's view, location, etc... so that I could paste it into the new thread:)

I just sent you a PM of some more pictures. Now I am not sure if they are ones you already copied, so in-case they are just forget about them and use the ones which you have not seen before.

Just want to say I think it's AWESOME that you're doing this! I know when I was considering booking BWI, I was kinda bummed that there wasn't a really comprehensive thread for it like some of the other resorts have. Luckily, I found some great posts & reviews, but it would be so nice to have all the key information in one place. So thank you! :goodvibes

I nominate WDWKOOK as the new thread owner :lmao:

Seriously, I would offer, but as a DVC owner, I stay at BWV and probably have only a tenth of the knowledge of BWI that you guys have. I still follow this thread more than the one on the DVC board, because this is so much more active.

YEAH :goodvibes our KOOK is leading the BWI thread revolution :yay: I too, would love something new and fresh with updated info that is relevant to our upcoming trip :goodvibes I am so excited to be trying a deluxe boardwalk inn room in October, and those pics are solidifying my decision for me! I am avidly sticking with my reservation and NOT changing things....I am happy where I am :)
KOOK, if you can afford it, I think a deluxe room might give you a little something extra special for your trip .... I say go for it, you'll be guaranteed one of those beautiful BW views :lovestruc

Those pics of the deluxe room were wonderful, sold me. I already told DH that is where I want to stay next trip:rotfl:

I just want to say that I think it's awesome that you're on board for the new and improved thread. Be bummed no more! Key info. will be in place soon for you - hold tight (a few days or so:rolleyes1). Thanks for your support and encouragement:goodvibes

gometros, (I am saluting as I write this), I hereby nominate you as the new and improved BWI thread DVC/BWV resident expert (BWVRE)! You (of course) will be doing this on a voluntary basis without renumeration, but I'm certain that my thanks will be more than enough compensation. (I've lowered my salute now...)

Small uprising maybe, but revolution?:rotfl:. If NEW and FRESH is what you want, then NEW and FRESH it will be, chimo2u! I'll do it for ALBERTA! Oh, and for TORONTO, too!

Cost isn't the issue at all with the Deluxe, only the 50% possibility of not being on the 4th floor, which we prefer and wanting a room without a connecting door. But, your encouragement is overriding my good judgement! CAN'T-STOP-WANTING-TO-SWITCH...

Have you thought of maybe switching your requests of the Garden/Epcot view with your Standard Club Level Room reservation and taking a chance and requesting the Boardwalk view? This way no matter what you will be on the 4th floor and by the lounge. Plus if you don't get the Boardwalk view it's a good chance you might get your original view request? Unless you don't want to take that chance since the Deluxe Room guarantees you the Boardwalk view.
