:goodvibes who else finds hope and faith in the Blessed Virgin Mary? I do.

I do.

Today at DDs school they celebrated her and crowned her with flowers the kids picked and wove themselves. Very cool!

My personal belief is that it goes againt the first commandment and I choose not to worship her nor pray to her.

I know it goes against my Catholic upbringing (which I no longer follow), but I do not believe it is biblical to condiser Mary as "co-redemptrix".

However, if that's what your faith tells you, I say go for it. I'm certainly no expert and I don't make the rules!
:cool1:

Hey I like it anytime a woman gets credit- especially in male-dominated organized religion. I thought it was cool that Pope John Paul II was so partial to Mary that he had an "M" for his papal coat of arms.

Protestants are not that big on Mary, but in the Episcopal church we recite the Nicene Creed and I like this part:

"For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man."

Very cool :)

You betcha. I'll bet she likes looking down on all of us and caring for us. Life truly is good.

Born and raised Catholic and I do not believe that she is a co-redemptrix, nor was I taught that in all my schooling. I am 29 if that makes as difference.

I do think it is cool that she is seen as special, because honestly, being the mother of God, she sure is in my eyes.

I don't worship, and I admit I don't even pray to her much. I do believe in praying to saints, but I see it more as asking them to pray for me. If that makes sense. I don't believe the saints will fix it, but will pray for me instead.

That's a bit off topic, but I had to throw that in after the quoted post.

I, too, am Catholic, and I regard the Blessed Mother very highly - however, my Catholic-school training made it clear to me that only God is to be worshipped and that we are not really praying "to" Mary, but instead we are seeking her intercession through her Son for whatever favors we need. I don't think that goes against the First Commandment at all. Hope this helps. :wave2:

I find hope and faith in Mary! I have a lot of people, especially my in-laws always question my belief in Mary. My answer is that I only worship GOD. However, I adore Mary and have faith in her love, just as I adore my own mother. We pray to Saints, I dont see it any different - just a more special relationship. :grouphug:

I go quite a ways back, early 50's on through the 60's with Catholic education and teachings, and have to say was never taught that. helenabear covered more recent teachings, being half my age. Not sure your age or who taught you though. :confused3

As a practicing Catholic (and a convert at that!), I just wanted to underscore what others have said: we don't pray to Mary, we ask for her prayers as well as ask the saints for their prayers. To me, this is no different in practice than asking a friend or family member to pray for you during a difficult time. It's sad that it gets warped into the idea of worship of Mary in a God-like way by non-Catholics.

Joseph and Mary had other children after Jesus, so she's Mary, and she's blessed, but she's not a virgin.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Different faiths will teach different things. My faith is that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. Regardless of what Christians think - whether these Christians are Catholic or not - about Mary having other children is moot in light of the bigger picture. At least, that is my own humble opinion.

Blessed be the Mother of Christ.

Peace

The Blessed Virgin..??

I say so many Hail Mary's it's like I have her on SPEED DIAL!

no kidding... we are on a first name basis...

Thank you Blessed Mary for listening to all of my assorted ravings.

I'm an atheist but I respect your right to post what you feel.

When I am very, very sad I feel like I can pour my heart out to the Blessed Mother. She understands all of our suffering because of the suffering she felt when Jesus was crucified.
