The Biggest Loser.... is this true?

I'm with Disney1-the contestants really are loosing the weight way to fast. And statistically, a majority of people who take off a lot of weight will regain some if not most of it back. I take exception to the way the trainers train their clients on the show. They put them on a regimen that would be impossible to keep up in the real world-so really they are dooming their clients by training them that way. I am a trainer and am in training for my first century ride and I find it hard to do what I need to do to make that goal. I mean honestly, food issues aside, how many of you would be able to devote a solid hour to two hours every day to exercising? I have never had a client that was able or willing to workout 1-2 hours a day every day. The eating issues are hard enough, but getting people motivated to move is also hard. I have a feeling that the contestants find it very hard to keep those changes when they return to real life. I know one person (my dh) who has managed to lose 40lbs and keep it off for 2 years. The thing is, he fell in love with Taekwondo so every other exercise (including training for a century with me and loosing wieght) is all so he can be better at Taekwondo. He had a purpose. Lord knows me telling him to exercise and loose weight for his health was falling on deaf ears. You gotta have a goal other than loosing weight. I'll get off my soap box now.

I have always felt the same way, that they are losing way too fast. I thought that a healthy weight loss was typically 1-2 lbs per week. Of course I realize that heavier people will lose more than that but 10-20 lbs per week is alot of weight.

Also, On that show they are able to focus 24 hours a day to weight loss & exercise. In the real world there are jobs, kids, etc. that don't allow us to devote that amount of time to exercise.

When your motivation is to win a contest/money and not your health, of course you're going to gain the weight back. Once the contest is over there's no incentive anymore.

Also, I know some of them (Matt Hoover and that Bryan guy from this season comes to mind) lost more than they should to win the contest. I think they were too skinny for their body types.

Matt, the winner from season 1, gained back 60 pounds. The reason I know this is because Suzy is from Washington and I believe they have chosen to live here. Matt is doing a weight loss promo for a local work out club, Vision Quest. I see the adds in the newspaper and they have posters in the window as you walk by at the mall. It shows a picture of him before Biggest L and then one after, then one now and then a blank one for future.

Matt won season 2.

As far as the contestants losing the weight fast. The time the show is on TV is actually shorter than the time they spend at the ranch. They spend 4 months at the ranch, and then 4 months at home before final weigh-ins. So when we see that "weekly" weigh-in, it may already have been 1 1/2 weeks to 2 weeks.

Season One's winner was Gary from NJ. Ryan was on season one or two, maybe a finalist. I can almost picture him without looking it up.

I had forgotten who won the 1st Season. I guess the love story made Matt/Suzy more memorable. I actually think Matt looks better a little heavier than he was at the finale.
