the big SNIP

:rotfl2: You really are all the same deep down aren't you??? My husband almost sent me head first into the dishwasher last night - AGAIN!! Who knew bending over to load dirty dishes was such an turn on for you guys. :lmao:.

A good man always lets his wife know that he finds her attractive :thumbsup2

DH took samples for sperm count to the lab every month for a year! Finally, month 13, we got the "all clear.". Dr said he'd seen a few take even longer, but not many.

That's interesting.

They told DH that they probably didn't "snip" the vas deferen tube on one side but a different one. It's been five years now and we've been using BC just in case, but that's something he could have rechecked again if and when we decide to add to that family.

DH and I are discussing this as an option these days.

I wonder
1) Is this procedure covered by your insurance? Will it be covered under the new health care law?

2)If not, how much does the procedure cost?

Thank you!

My DH had his done in the dr office, we paid our $15 copay and insurance paid the rest.

My DH used ice for most of,the evening after his, and was ok the next day. They gave him valium to take 30-minutes before his appt, so he couldn't drive himself that day. He sat in the recliner and watched movies most of the day.

Though it's sweet, I think you're going a bit overboard with preparations for his recovery. I was pretty disappointed when my DH only needed Advil and an ice pack for an afternoon before going back to work the next day. I kind of wanted him to suffer. Then again, I had 3 of his children by c-section.

I agree- i took my friend to get his done during our lunch break at work and he came back to work after it!

In our case,dh had 3 samples tested-following on from the 3rd -
The hospital sent a wonderful letter, which stated," feel free to abandon contraceptives" .
however, it went to dh's brothers address, rather than ours-and he opened it!
It was not common knowledge at that time,dh had been "snipped"::yes::

I bet that led to an interesting conversation :scared:

You think?!:rotfl2:

At the time,I couldn't decide who I felt more aggrieved by-
the hospital for sending the letter to the wrong address-or bil for opening a letter addressed to dh. Not bothered now,but clearly it was bad practice by the hospital. Think dh was more upset his brother knew his results before him. :coffee:

My dh was fine a few hours after. 5 years after the vasectomy he had it reversed. That was a more involved recovery.

My hubby had his snip 33 years ago. He had it on a Friday at the Dr's office and rested over the weekend and was back to work on Monday. They did tell him at the time no heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

Yup, same here. Didn't hurt, but took a month before it wasn't noticeable at times. My hernia surgery was less uncomfortable, but clearly a less sensitive area.

Tequila, ice, salt, lime, mix...things can work out ok.:)

A few yrs ago in my home town there was a couple who decided they had enough babies she went got tubes tied man went got snipped...the man did not go back for his follow up apparently because a few months later the became pregnant.

Yes then it got worse when doctor heard 2 heartbeats....Upon delivery they found out that 2 eggs got thru boy/girl twins.

They say sometimes there is a higher power that rules us an I'd say this was 1 of those times.

This is why both parties should get fixed.

This is why both parties should get fixed.

In the story you quoted, both parties DID.

We opted to only have DH done--it is minor surgery for him, not for me.

We did make sure he went in for checks. He still goes in every 5 years for a "just in case" check; we love our two but do NOT want more.

Unfortunately, that just isn't always possible. I would have loved to been "fixed", I begged the doctors to do it and considering that this last pregnancy could have killed me, they were all for it.

They couldn't though. There is such extensive scar tissue in that area from a previous c-seciton, that they could not get to my tubes. So, lets hope that DH's second vasectomy took okay. Luckily, his checks afterwards have all come back clean.

His sperm count was decreasing, so they figured it was eventually going to be ok. Your DH's case might be different.

Dh had his a year ago this month.

He used frozen peas as ice packs. We bought 2 pkgs and he switched them out as each thawed.

He also wore a jock strap, as suggested by his Dr., for the first 2 weeks afterwards.

It went fine for Dh. He laid around for a few days, walked like he'd been riding a horse for those few days, but was not in much pain and only needed Tylenol for pain.

Hubs was snipped over 10years ago and he tolerated it pretty well. I remember the doctor telling us he had to lay down for the first couple of days with frozen peas on the area. Other than that he didn't have any issues. Insurance paid for it except for the 30dollar copay.

My old guy had no issues afterwards. couple of Advil,, that's about it. We didn't do anything "special" took the family to TGI Fridays for dinner

DH had his done when he was 24 - DS was only 2 years old. (DS will be 17 next month!)

He recovered quickly.

I actually got to watch the procedure, as DH was the last appointment of the day at the Urologist. The entire building was empty, so the doctor invited me back. It was interesting, to say the least.

They used Novocaine to numb the area and took a scalpel to the outer area. Found the Vas and cut out a section and basically saudered the ends. I don't remember if he had stitches or if they just used a super glue type stuff to seal the area after it was done.

The procedure didn't take long and we just had a couple bags of peas in the freezer for him.

:)

We expected a long talk from the Urologist because we were both young, but it never happened. DS is an only child and I heard that unless you have 2 children or are 25 years of age that they don't like to do the procedure on you (just rumor - I never did look to see if it was true). But we decided even before DS was born that we only wanted one child. Never have changed our minds (thankfully!).

:)
