)Mushroom Filet at Le Cellier;
far and away my favorite entree at WDW. I don't care about the breadsticks, the soups, the desserts, I need nothing else but this dish. I've never been big on steak but I'm a mushroom fanatic and I love risotto...the first time I had this dish I was floored by how delicious the risotto was, how tender the meat was, and how strong the mushroom flavor was. And while so many people seem to think it's not as good as it once was, for me it's been just as delicious every time!
)Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes at Kona Cafe; I bought into the hype of tonga toast and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't blown over. Then on a next trip, I tried these pancakes. Greatest. breakfast food. EVER! Fluffy, nutty, fruity, filling, flavorful, fabulous!
)Butternut squash soup at Boma/The Mara; I'm a big fan of squash and 'fall' flavors. When I had this soup at Boma, I fell in love. It had a much stronger nutmeg taste and creamier taste than any other butternut squash soup I've tried. Then I found it at The Mara, and lo and behold it was the exact same recipe! Too much deliciousness for a QS location!
)School bread from Kringla in Norway; while it's not at all as amazing as it used to be, I still enjoy it. I adore all things coconut, and I've never been a fan of cream fillings, yet the cream here is so light and sweet and doesn't have that thick fake pudding taste. I also love the texture of the bread and how unusual it is for a pastry. I only wish they still were as big and as stuffed as they were a few years ago!
)Fried plantains at San Angel Inn in Mexico; this is a strange one, but I love plaintains and bananas, so I ordered this side dish as an appetizer with our meal. The server (who was great!) told me back home he eats them with sour cream and sugar. It sounded a little odd to me, but he brought out a bowls of them and instructed me to dip the plantain in the cream and then the sugar...WOW! I don't know what it was about that combination but I could have happily eaten plantains for dinner and dessert too. Still one of my biggest disney food surprises ever!
