**** Thought I would post the road trip/universal part of my vacation here****

Hello to all who have decided to stop by. :wave2:

This is my first trip report and I hope that you will all enjoy.

****Our trip was back in September 2007, so I will do my best to remember everything that I can. I started writing my trip report soon after we got back but was sidetracked and never finished. After day 14 or so I unfortunately lost my notes and don't remember details but I'll post pictures and information on what I do. ((Sorry))

First a few side notes for you all

1. Our vacation was a total of 21 days, so this will be a long trip report and I will try to update it as often as I can.
2. Our trip also consists of a 5 day road trip and some time at universal studios and the beach. (sorry for those of you who hate universal)
3. There are NO pictures of us with the characters because we soon realized after arriving at the parks that our DD was terrified of them.
4. You will see very few pictures of myself because I avoid the camera at almost all cost.

Other then that please sit back and relax. popcorn::

The cast

Me: I'm a 29 year old stay at home Mom. This is my 5th trip to disney world. My husband and I were married at the Poly in June of 2001. Every trip that I've taken to Disney was for a special occasion of some sort. My first trip was for my high school graduation in 1996, Second trip we took my DH best friend who was sadly dying from cancer,((that was the most memorable trip of course)) , 3rd trip was for my wedding and honeymoon, 4th trip was for my 2 year anniversary, and now this 5th trip is for my DD first visit. I planned every second of this trip myself while my husband worked very hard to pay for it.

DH: 31 years old. Investment Broker. Also his 5th trip to disney World. Best husband and Father in the world.

DD: 18mos old. The most friendly loving baby EVER. This is her first trip to Disney World. Went to DL when she was 6months old and loved it, so I was hopeful she would enjoy Disney even more now that she's one year older. I soon realized that was false and has since then become a big wuss. But ya gotta love her, and she still had a wonderful time

DC: 18years old. First trip to Disney World. Took a week off of school to join us for a week. Only made it because we agreed to pay for his hotel and some park tickets. Really needed him for an extra hand so it was worth it.

DG: (my dad) 47years old. First trip to Disney World. Lives in California so I only get to see him a few times a year. Flew in to meet us for 4 days.

Okay let's begin:woohoo: ~~~~

September 12th

YAY!! Today was finally the day we were going on our worry free 3 week vacation. I woke up around 7:00am so I could try to hurry up and get ready before my DD woke up so there would be little interuption. DH was going to work for part of the day but luckily decided at the last minute to go ahead and take the day off so we could leave a little earlier. :cool1:

9:30am: house sitter/dog sitter arrived. ((I'm so thankful for her, how many people would agree to watch your home and pets for 3 weeks?!?))

10:45am: All packed up and Ready to GO! :drive:

CIMG2195.jpg

After an hour and a half of driving we decided to stop and stretch our legs at a rest stop in Arriba Colorado?!?! Reya was so happy to get out of the car! She's an awesome rider and complained very little. The entire road trip we made sure to stop every one to two hours so she could run around and burn some off some energy, plus we made sure to have Sponge Bob playing on the DVD player non-stop while we were driving. ((amen to dvd players))

CIMG2197.jpg

After using the facilites, walking, and playing tag for about 20mins we headed out on the open road again. After about another hour and half of driving we stopped in a place called Colby Kansas to refuel the car and our tummies. We ate at a McDonalds. I think this was the worst McDonalds EVER! When we walked up to the counter the lady standing there didn't greet us with a hello or even a smile. All she did was yell at the top of her lungs "I NEED SOMEONE UP AT THE COUNTER NOW!!!" Couple of seconds later an older man came up to the counter and took our order. The restaurant didn't seem to be the taken care of , and the food was horrible. Also, during the time we were eating some guy came in and started spraying pesticide on the floors under and around the tables... WHAT THE???? :confused3 On top of the horrible service and food, Reya threw her bottle on the table and spilled my food all over me. I had mayo, mustard, and ketcup all over my shirt and pants. Geezz, vacation wasn't starting off too well.

After lunch we stopped at the one and only starbucks in town. We didn't see any other signs the entire way until we got into Georgia. ((INSANE))

Drove another hour and a half and stopped at a rest stop somewhere in kansas. The rest stop was icky and had bugs all over the place in the rest-room. Let Reya run around for awhile then headed off to our hotel which was about an hour away.

((to be continued))

We arrived at the Courtyard Salina in Kansas around 6:00 PM. Check in was smooth and easy. DH unloaded the car and packed everything onto the luggage cart, looking at it you would have thought we were staying a week. :rotfl:

The hotel was pretty nice except for a hint of odor that smelled like smoke. Luckily the room itself did not smell. The room was spacious with a king sized bed, sofa, fridge, microwave and all the usual stuff. We were also across the street from various fast food restaurants which was really nice so we wouldn't need to get in the car and go somewhere for dinner.

CIMG2204.jpg

After we got all of our stuff settled in the room, we went for a walk around the hotel and pondered what we would get to eat.

Day one to be continued......

Day 1 continued.....

Popeye’s was situated directly across the street from our hotel, so we decided to pick up some food from there and bring it back to our room to eat for dinner. I've never eaten there before but DH said it was pretty good so I gave it a try. Sorry to say I wasn't all that impressed with the chicken but the mashed potatoes were yummy. After eating we all got ready for bed. We put Reya in her playpen to sleep, but she didn't want ANYTHING to do with that. For the next 3 hours we would play war with her trying to get her to go night- night! I was worried that this was a prelude to the rest of the trip and that we would have to fight with her every night to try to get her to sleep. Finally around 11:00 pm or so, she crashed in our bed with DH. :faint:

CIMG2218.jpg

~~Reya after I put her in her crib~~
CIMG2220.jpg

Once Reya was fast asleep I got nice and cozy in my plush comfy bed, watched a little tv and drifted off into lala land. Well Sorta!!!….. I couldn't sleep for anything. I was exhausted but I seemed to wake up every 20mins or so. Most the time I would snore so loud that I would wake myself up. ((That's sad)) So between the snoring and my excitement for the trip I didn't get a very peaceful nights sleep. OH WELL! :confused3 At least DH and DD slept with no problem the rest of the night.

Well, that's it for day One. Be back later with Day two.

September 13th/Day 2

Alarm went off at 6:30am. I took a shower then went back to sleep until 7:10am. I was so exhausted from the lack of sleep during the night, but needed to get up because we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us and I didn't want to arrive at the hotel too late. Got myself ready and woke DH at 8:15am. After we were both showered, ready, and packed up I woke up DD. Needless to say she was NOT happy about that at all. It's not very often I have to wake her up, she's always the one waking me. We were out of the room at 8:35am. Woo Hoo only 5 minutes off schedule.

As we were passing the lobby on our way out of the hotel, DD was waving :wave2: bye bye and blowing kisses to everyone. Smiles were plastered on everyone’s face, and every old person was ooohhing and ahhing, it was too cute. I'm hoping she made their day.

After we checked out and loaded up the car we went a couple of miles up the road and stopped at IHOP for breakfast.

~~Reya sitting down before breakfast~~
CIMG2223.jpg

~~Reya had fresh fruit, while DH and I had the country fried steak. YUMMY!~~

CIMG2227.jpg

The wait staff left something to be desired, but the food was good. While we were sitting at our table DD continued to be a ham and said "HI" and waved to everybody that walked pass our table.

After breakfast we were on the road again. :car: Had a semi-long drive ahead of us. After about 2 hours we stopped at a rest stop somewhere in Kansas. Reya ran around to burn off some energy, as we ran around after her.

~~DD and DH posing at the rest stop for me~~
CIMG2231.jpg

Our second stop was about another hour and a half away at some rest stop in MO. DH was the first to use the restroom and came out beet red. Turns out he did his "business" in the womans restroom. When he came out of the stall there was this poor old woman looking at him like he was crazy. I asked him how in the world could he confuse the woman’s restroom with the men’s ? He said he noticed there weren't any urinals right away, but didn't think anything of it, just thought it was a MO thing. :confused3 :rotfl2:

~~DD and ME~~ It was really windy out, that’s why my hair is all messy.
CIMG2234.jpg

Our third stop was for lunch, we ate at yet another McDonalds. It wasn't my first choice, but there really wasn't much else around. Luckily this one was much better then the one in COLBY KS. People were much friendlier and the food was much better too. Reya got to have some ice cream for dessert, so she was a happy camper.

Day 2 to be continued....

DAY 2 continued...

We arrived at the Drury Plaza Chesterfield around 4:30pm. Check in was easy and the staff was very friendly. I was surprised and pleased at how beautiful and clean this hotel was.

We took our luggage on up to our room. I was worried when we discovered that our room was right next to the elevator, I was thinking that we would hear a lot of noise through the night, but we never had a problem. The room was nice but pretty small, it had also overlooked the pool and shopping mall across the way.

dph_chesterfield_room_Web1.jpg

Upon entering the room Reya went straight for the phone. This became a ritual every single time we entered our hotel rooms on this trip. I had to unplug the phones as soon as we arrived so she wouldn't accidentally make a phone call. It was quite annoying but adorable at the same time.
CIMG2248.jpg

After we got our luggage put away, DH and I took a quick 20min break, and Reya played peek-a-boo with the curtains. ((Hey whatever makes her happy)) :) After our brief break we decided to walk over to the mall to see what they had for dinner.

We walked around the mall for a little while and decided on having dinner at a place called Houlihans. We don't have any of these restaurants in Colorado so thought it would be a good place to try out. YUMMY!! I loved this place. Our waitress was a delight and the food was great. We shared the nachos and DD and I shared the chicken alfredo with baked potato soup. Don't remember what DH had.

CIMG2256-1.jpg

After dinner we headed back to the hotel room to settle in for the rest of the night. Unfortunately DD was just as difficult to put to sleep as she was the night before. She finally fell asleep around 11:00pm. After she was fast asleep DH went to work out and I tried to fall asleep. The bed was so soft and comfortable and luckily I slept a little better this night.

oh btw...i saw your sig. I just bought Twilight and will start reading it tonight. Isnt Edward just gorgeous??!?!?

I'll post some more here in a few minutes!

Thanks! She is precious... she just gets cuter and cuter everyday!

Oh YES!!! I'm sooooo in love with Edward. I'm reading the 4th book right now, I'm so obsessed! I got to meet the author a couple of months ago, she's such an amazing writer!

Thanks for reading!

September 14th/Day 3

My alarm went off at 6:30am, but I was so tired I pushed the snooze button for a about a 1/2 hour. Although I had a great night sleep it took some time for me to actually fall into a deep sleep. Once again I was snoring so loud that I would wake myself up, but luckily it didn't seem to phase DD or DH. :thumbsup2 Even though I woke up a 1/2 hour later then I wanted to we managed to leave the room on time.:woohoo:

Once we packed up the car we headed back into the hotel to eat breakfast. They had an amazing free HOT buffet breakfast. The dinning area was beautiful and they had a huge selection of items to choose from. I had biscuts and gravy, eggs, and sausage. Reya had eggs, a banana  and muffins, and DH had the same as me.

CIMG2266-1.jpg

After we were done eating we bid farewell to the Drury Plaza around 9:00am. We ended up hitting extremely heavy traffic once we got on the interstate due to construction. What should have been a 10min drive out of the city turned into 45mins. :drive:

Our first stop for the day was at a rest area in Metropolis Illinois. While there DH, DD, and I played at the playground that they had on site. There was this wooden teeter totter there that looked like so much fun, so we decided to hop right on. I sat on one side while DH and DD sat on the other. Oh my goodness it was so much fun. I love being able to act like a kid every once in awhile, that's the best part of being a parent, being able to have an excuse to act like one. :yay: Reya absolutely had a ball, she laughed and laughed and laughed.:rotfl:

CIMG2275.jpg

CIMG2276-1.jpg

CIMG2277.jpg

CIMG2278.jpg

Our second stop was lunch in a small town in tennesse, where we ate at a Craker Barrel. This was a first for all of us, we only have one or two in the whole state of Colorado. Once we walked into the restaurant there was this really nice old lady there to greet us. DD just smiled at her and walked right up to her to be picked up like she was an old family friend. It was really cute and really scary at the same time. Not because I was worried about the lady, but it makes me realize that I need to start teaching her about stranger danger real soon. She's the most loveable little girl :cutie: and loves to talk and be held by just about anyone. :scared: Anyway, DD and the nice lady talked back and forth for a few minutes then we were seated. Reya and I shared the Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, french fries, and corn. Not sure what DH had?!?! I didn't think the food was anything special. I've had better and I've had worse, but you got a lot of food for what you pay for and that was nice.

~~DD posing with the pig in front of the CB, she kept calling it kitty kat~~:sad2:

CIMG2284.jpg

Our only other stop for the day was another rest stop in tennesse, somewhere between nashville and chattanooga. No fun teeter totters there. :snooty:

We arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kennesaw GA around 8:00pm. Once again check in was nice and smooth and the staff was very friendly. Hotel was nice, clean, and felt very cozy. We had a standard king bed room which we were very pleased with. Once we entered the room, Reya went straight over to the tv, found the remote, handed it to me at said "BOB,BOB" aka SPONGE BOB. I told her I was sorry but there would be no "BOB,BOB" tonight. Since it was late we decided to just order room service that night. After we were unpacked and in our pjs we ordered our food. I had a chicken sandwich with fries while Will had the chicken salad. It was really yummy! After our tummies were full we decided to hit the hay. Once again it was difficult getting Reya to sleep, but not as bad as the previous 2 nights. This time I made her fall asleep in her crib instead of bringing her into bed with me, and it seemed to work much better. After watching a little tv :happytv: I drifted off to sleep.

SEE YA REAL SOON! Be back sometime soon with day 4.

I'm enjoying this!

I grew up in Chesterfield, and we have stayed at that Drury hotel once when we went back to visit family - it was a nice place. We also like Houlihan's there.

You girl is so cute! Sounds like you had a very memorable trip.

Thank you ;)

Chesterfield was really nice, we'll probably stay there again if we drive though. The location of the hotel was PERFECT! I wish we had a Houlihan's here it was really yummy. There was one located across the street from our hotel in Orlando two. We made sure to eat there a couple of times while we were there.

Thanks for reading!

September 15th/Day 4

Woke up at 7:00am, was excited because today was the day we would finally be in arriving into Florida. :yay: After we checked out of the room and got the car packed up we headed back in for breakfast. It wasn't free but a reasonable 7 something for all you can eat. I had pancakes, sausage, and bacon. Will had just about one of everything, and DD had yogart, muffins, and fruit.

~~Reya chilling in the hotel lobby before breakfast~~

CIMG2301.jpg

After breakfast we headed out and stopped at a Target a couple of miles down the road. I needed to buy a memory card for one of my cameras because I accidentally left it at home. This really irritated me because I had to shell out an unexpected $50.00. :sad2: On our way out of the store we ordered some yummy Starbucks because we didn't know how far we would have to drive until we hit another one. ((we're Starbucks junkies))

Our first stop was a rest stop somewhere in Georgia!?!?!

** Here’s some photos I snapped while we were there…. Needed to try out my new memory card.

IMG_2770.jpg

After 20 minutes of relaxing and stretching our legs out we were on the road…..

Our second stop of the day was for lunch. We decided on Arby’s which was located about 5 miles away from the Florida border. Can't think of the name of the town at the top of my head but it didn't seem like the best neighborhood. I actually think we saw a drug deal going on.. :scared1: The staff was not friendly, and I would not have stayed more then a couple of minutes if it weren't for all the other tourist around. After we left the ghetto we drove about 10miles down the interstate and stopped at the Florida Visitor Center. We let Reya walk around and play for a little while, gathered up some brochures and were on our way.

Day 4 to be continued........

Day 4 continued.....

It was another 3 hour drive :drive: from the visitors center to our hotel we were going to be staying at for the next 2 nights. Once we were 5 miles away our stupid GPS( who had yet to let us down )took us some weird round about way that wasted about 30mins of our time. AHHHHH I was sooo irritated, and poor Reya was about to have her first meltdown.:scared:

We finally arrived at the Meridian Palms hotel around 5:00pm. I wasn't all that impressed with the hotel from the moment we arrived, but I had to realize that it was only for a couple of nights and we would survive. I think we got 2 nights for around $150.00 so I guess it wasn't bad for what we paid.:confused3

009298A1.jpg

When we checked in the gentleman behind the desk wasn't very professional or extra friendly. ((he looked like an older version of Taylor hicks)) Any who, when I told him that I wanted to pay in cash he seemed irritated and proceeded to tell me that he didn't have any change. :sad2: This upset me because I didn't want to put the room on my credit card so I went though my wallet and diaper bag and came up with the amount right down to the penny. After he gave us our room key and information on the hotel we proceeded to our room which was on the 3rd floor across from the elevator.

Upon entering we noticed that there was only 1 king sized bed ……. We did ask for a King, but I also asked for a sleeper sofa when I booked the room so when my cousin arrived he would have a place to sleep. The room was rather large so I had assumed that it was a handicapped room. I went back down to the desk and asked for a room with a sleeper sofa or 2 queen beds. They ended up giving us another king room with a sleeper sofa.

Once we found our new room we were upset to find out that we were given a smoking room. GRRRR!!! OH WELL!! I was just going to deal with it. The room was also super small and I had then wished that I would have just kept the handicapped room for the extra space and my cousin could have slept on the floor. But I'm not one to cause a problem or make a nuisance of myself so I just let it be.

You can tell that it had recently been renovated but not done very well. The couch and the bed were really uncomfortable and the toilet was coming up off of the floor. But like I said we would only be there for a couple of days so we would make due.

After we got all settled and unpacked we gave Reya a quick bath. ((She hates baths)) and walked across the parking lot to eat dinner at IHOP. Dinner wasn't all that great and my husbands pancakes were burnt.:crazy2: Reya was getting pissy and was obviously ready for bed so we hurried up ate and left.

This was the first night that DD actually fell asleep on her own and in her crib with no problem. :woohoo:

IMG_2790.jpg

End of day 4

September 16th/Day 5

My alarm went off around 7:00am, my goal was to be at the gates of Universal Studios by opening but it didn't happen. As a matter of fact the entire trip I didn't manage to make it too one opening of any park. OH WELL~ Kinda hard with a toddler.

We arrived at Universal Studios around 9:30 am, but actually arrived at the gates around 10:00am. That walk is INSANE from the parking garage, plus I wasn't allowed to use the moving walkways because of the stroller. ..I was already exhausted and I hadn't even started my day yet.

We picked up our tickets at the electronic ticketing booth and we on our way!

My first mistake of the day was actually putting on makeup that morning. What in the world was I thinking?!?!? I soon realized that makeup would be non-existent on the rest of the trip. I looked like a melting wax figure, and the makeup poured into my eyes blinding me until I found some napkins to wipe it off. Wasn't the most attractive thing as my husband pointed out.

We soon realized that there wasn't going to be much to do for the day with it just being DD, DH, and I. Reya couldn't do much of anything and without an extra pair of hands neither could we.

IMG_2792.jpg

IMG_2793.jpg

Our first stop was ET. I remember loving this ride and was thinking that DD would too. Who could be scared of ET?!?! There was NO wait for the ride so we hopped right on. We were seated in the back of the car with DD sitting between me and DH. She freaked out most of the ride with her little arms stretched out for DH to pick her up. The ride was just too loud and too dark for her to handle.

OHHHH NOOOO!!!! Is this how the whole trip is going to be I thought?!?!?

Once we got off of ET we went over to the Barney's backyard playground?!?! ((think that's what it's called)) Reya walked and looked around for awhile and it was a nice way for us all to get out of the heat for a while.
IMG_2800.jpg

After spending 20mins there we headed over to the curious george water
area.

IMG_2813.jpg

We stripped Reya down to her diaper, hat, and sandals and let her run amuck. During that time I sat infront of a mister fan in the shade which felt like heaven. :offtopic: ((DW really needs to invest in those--they're everywhere at Universal and were a god-send)) Anyway~~ After a few minutes of sitting in the shade I decided to join Reya for a little while. DH went to get my $1000.00 camera to take a picture of DD and I. Reya and I were standing underneth some kind of deck/awning but my DH was not. A couple of seconds later while he's taking our pictures we hear someone screaming "WATCH OUT!!"" and this massive bucket of water poured on top of my husband, All I could do was stare with my mouth wide open repeating over and over.. (oh my god, oh my god, oh my god)! I thought DH was going to freak out, but he was nice and calm and collected about it. He went over to try to dry off my camera and himself. I was freaked out because I was thinking my camera was a ruined. Well, the thing still takes pictures, but from here on out all of the pictures have a weird little spot in the left hand corner. :(

~~Gosh! If only there was a sign there to warn you! :lmao: ~~
IMG_2815.jpg

After that DH figured he was soaked anyway, and proceeded to play in the water with Reya!

~~See that bucket of water above reyas head, that's what dumped on DH head~~

THANK YOU!!! I'm glad someone is reading. ;) I'll post some more tonight.

Day 5 continuted.....

After playing for about 45mins we decided that we were pretty hungry, we dried Reya off, got her dressed and headed over to Mel's Drive In for lunch. The food was okay, nothing special. I had the Chicken strips with chili fries, DH had a cheese burger, and Reya shared off of our plates as usual.

IMG_2825.jpg

IMG_2827.jpg

After we ate lunch we decided that there wasn't much more for us to do at universal until we came back with DC a couple days later. So we headed on over to IOA so we could spend a little time at Suess Landing.

IMG_2832.jpg

IMG_2833.jpg

Once we arrived, we went straight to the Cat in the Hat ride. There was No wait so we hopped right on. Reya did well most of the ride but would freak out a little bit when in a dark room, but other then that she did great.

IMG_2834.jpg

IMG_2836.jpg

After riding Cat in the hat we headed over to the Caro-suess-el ~~ Once again there was NO wait. I decided to stand up right next to Reya so she could ride by herself and DH rode right next to her. This isn't the first time DD has been on a carousel and she's always seemed to like them so I knew she wouldn't have any problem. WRONG!!!!!!~~ She cried and wiggled pretty much the entire ride.

IMG_2837.jpg

By this time the weather was pretty much unbearable and we decided to head back to the hotel to wait for my DC to arrive from the airport. On our way out of the park I decided to stop and get myself some moose juice.... Mmmmmm, nice and refreshing!!:drinking: Now that I had my refreshment we could continue on our 5 mile walk to the car. Grrrrrrr.

IMG_2842.jpg

On our walk back to the car DD passed out in her stroller and luckily didn't wake as I put her in her car seat. :faint: We decided to just drive around for a little while when we left the parking lot so she could sleep because I knew once we stopped she would wake up. After a half hour or so we headed back to the hotel.

We arrived around 3:00pm. But when we entered the room I was highly disappointed because our room had yet to be cleaned. I didn't want to be there when the maid showed up so we went to a cheesy gift shop across the parking lot to kill some time. While there we bought Reya a little stuffed kitty cat and a bag to carry our cameras in. After a half hour or so we headed back hoping that the room would be done, and thank goodness it was. :yay: DC called me and told me he was on the shuttle and would be there soon. We laid down and rest for awhile until Mike showed up.

When Mike arrived he wasn't feeling well at all. He proceeded to tell us that the doctor thinks he's coming down with strep throat and gave him some medication to take with him. This worried me because I didn't want any of us to get sick and I didn't want DC to be miserable the entire time he was there.

After Mike got settled in we decided to head out for dinner and stopped at a drug store so Mike could get some OTC meds as well.

After our brief stop we decided on eating at Planet Hollywood in DTD. :umbrella:It was pouring outside so we sat in the car until it stopped. We were seated on the top floor overlooking the rest of the restaurant. Will and I shared the appetizer sampler and Mike got the bacon cheeseburger, everything was pretty yummy.

After eating we walked around DTD for awhile to shop and take in all the sites. We didn't stay too long and headed back to the hotel because Mike was feeling really horrible and wanted to lay down. POOR GUY!!

When we got back to the hotel we put Reya to bed she fell asleep all by herself again, Mike passed out almost right away, and DH and I sat up at watched Mr. and Mrs Smith before we retired for the night.

Well that's it for Day 5....be back later with day 6! :wave2:
