The BALD and the BEAUTIFUL go to DIZZY world! 4/2 epcot!

Sounds like a great day at AK, I really love that park! FOTLK is awesome isn't it? I can just see Jayden enthralled with all the colors and costumes :goodvibes

And I'm so happy for you that you got to eat at RFC after all :woohoo:

Great pictures from the walk out of AK! I really want to take time to look at details if I am allowed to.

Just popped over from my TR to read yours! Loving it! What a cute family you have!
Hope you are all on the mend now.

March 9th- Day 6

Before I continue on, I know a LOT of you are against anything NON-Disney, but we as a family usually like to visit Universal Studios and Sea World anytime we’re in Orlando.:rolleyes1( Due to limited time issues Sea World was not on the agenda this year however) :hourglass I never try to compare Disney to Universal because Disney will win hands down, but we always have a good time regardless. That is until now. :sad2: Although Universal has a "couple" positve attributes, they have WAY more negative. Enough in fact to make me reconsider ever coming back to visit. With that being said, lets get on with the events of the day .......

Both parks opened at 9:00am and we had arrived to the parking garage around that time. This brings me to the first negative item on my list of complaints. Even though the crowds were very light and there was hardly anybody there they made everyone park and walk as far away as possible. It just blew my mind seeing all the empty parking spots that were closer to city walk . I felt like SOOO much time was wasted just walking from the parking garage to the front gates. :headache:

Our original plan was to go to Universal Studios that day and IOA on Thursday, but as we were walking Marsha had brought up a good point about the weather. She suggested that we go to IOA that day since the weather was so great and go to Universal on Thursday since it was supposed to rain. :umbrella: For those of you who have never been, there’s a LOT more outside rides at IOA such as roller coasters and waters rides, whereas Universal has more indoor attractions. So after discussing it for a few minutes, we decided to switch our park days. :hyper2: Even though it was overcast the temperature was extremely comfortable so we headed to IOA for the day!

Florida002-2.jpg

We had yet to purchase our tickets so we hopped in line.

Florida003-2.jpg

My second complaint of the day is that the prices they have listed online and the price you pay at the ticket booth are WAY different. We ended up having to pay an extra $40.00 per person for a 2Day/2Park ticket. :scared1: This was completely unexpected and upset us to the extreme. Having to pay an extra $120.00 was outragous. Plus they closed at 6:00 pm, which meant that we had only 8 hours to enjoy ourselves and to make the outragous money we spent worth it. ((when I look back I think we were stupid for agreeing to pay the amount we did)) :confused3

((Oh well, you live you learn)) :teacher:

If I have to say one positive thing about IOA though, it would be about their themeing. I think it's very well done and I enjoyed the sights as we walked around.

Florida004-1.jpg

Florida006-2.jpg

We had no specific destination in mind after we entered through the turnstiles, so when we came to the fork in the road we didn't know what to do.

To our left there was the Super-hero area which housed some thrill rides, such as the Hulk and the Dr. Doom ride and spider man (my favorite).

Florida007-2.jpg

And to our right there was Seuss Landing which housed most of the kiddie rides, such as Cat in the Hat and Caro-seuss-el.

Florida010.jpg

I personally thought it would be better to go to Seuss Landing first so Reya could ride a few things right away, but the boys wanted to ride the coaster first since there was such a short line. So we decided to split up for a little while so they could do what they wanted and Marsha and I could take the girls to do the attractions in Seuss Landing.

****

Reya wanted to ride the Caro-suess-el first.

Florida024-2.jpg

Everyone but Jayden and I were able to ride on one of the animals that moved up and down. Instead we had to ride in a seat the slightly rocked back and forth. ((BTW, this is the ONLY ride that he is allowed to go on at IOA)) So this is the 3rd complaint I had for the day. Definitely nothing like Disney where he can ride over 3/4 of the rides.

Florida014-4.jpg

Next we went over to ride Cat-in-the-Hat. There was no wait. :woohoo: It was at this point and time that I realized that Jayden wouldn't be able to ride any of the rides. I was directed to the Child Swap area where I waited with Jayden. :sad1: Once it was my turn, Breanna and Valerie rode with me, while Reya and Jayden stayed behind with Marsha. I guess Reya hated it and cried almost the entire time. I'm not sure why? It's a kiddie ride. Reminds me a lot of Winnie the Pooh except that it spins here and there. I personally love it and so did the other girls.. :confused3

To be continued………….

I've never been to IOA or Universal Studios but hope to at least go to whichever park has the new Harry Potter attraction when we go in Nov/Dec. I think the attractions are super colorful from pics I've seen - do you think a 3 year old would enjoy Suess Landing? Did the park attendants tell you why the prices were so much more than what you saw online? We usually order our tickets online for WDW because you can save so much more than gate prices so I wonder if that is the same for Universal :confused3 Hope the rain stays away for the rest of the day!

Maya and Cayden played on those same rocks while we rode everest. (and Cayden was about 39.5ish so he was tall enough for star tour in shoes)

we weren't brave enough to try ittbab with the kids. We had a few other 3-d shows we wanted to see that week and wanted to play it safe.

What a great memory if Jayden and folk!!!!

I've never been to universal but I am looking forward to reading about your day! Seuss Landing looks amazing! It's crazy that Jayden couldn't ride anything though. How disappointing!

I am finally caught up.

So glad you enjoyed AK. It is one of our favorite parks. :thumbsup2Love the pictures with Jiminy Cricket. We have yet to meet him.

We always take the train to Rafiki's Planet but have only gotten off once. We will have to explore it more this time.

I am glad Jaden liked the sounds and sights of the Lion King. It is a truly awesome show.

Glad to hear that you like RFC. I will have to tell DH about the chicken fried chicken (He  that meal at other restaurants). We are going for the first time this summer to RFC at AK.

I am enjoying your review of IOA. I have never been there. We always stick to Disney or Sea World when we go. I know Jeremy will want to explore Universal and IOA eventually.

popcorn::Can't wait to read more.

Hey there! I'm excited to read the rest of your report - I'm going back now to catch up on everything :goodvibes.

Oh, and I love the title of your TR! How clever!

I usually LOVE universal, but you'll soon realize in this TR that I'm not so fond of it anymore. We did catch a glimpse of hogwarts and it looks amazing! I'll post a couple pictures on my next post.

Yes, I think a 3 year old would enjoy Suess Landing.

I understand that it might be a few extra dollars to purchase tickets at the gate, but 40.00? That's insane. They're always advertising in Orlando that their prices are so much lower then Disney, but that's a complete lie.

That's awesome that he was tall enough. I was so surprised that Reya grew so much in the last couple of months and was able to ride as much as she was able. I bet if I would have gotten her some shoes with some bigger soles she would have been able to ride even more. but she's just like her momma and clumsy, so any shoe that's not completely flat she trips and falls in all day.

I've never been to universal but I am looking forward to reading about your day! Seuss Landing looks amazing! It's crazy that Jayden couldn't ride anything though. How disappointing!

It was very disappointing. I hate to say it but my review of the day isn't great. Like I said before we normally have a good time, but we just didn't have any luck when we went to IOA.

The only really good thing I liked about IOA is the way they do the child-swap thing. I'll explain in it better detail later, but it's completely different then how Disney does it.

I am finally caught up.

I think RFC has the best chicken fried chicken that I've ever had. ((that's my opinion anyway)) I also love the way the restaurant is set up.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying my report on Universal... I'll have another updated within the hour or so.

I'm at home today taking care of two really sick kids and awaitng the snow storm that's supposed to come in. So when they're sleeping I should be able to get some posts up.

:( sorry your US/IOA did not turn out to be a pleasant experience. I personally do mind reading about non-Disney items. I have been to neither so it is nice to read about them.

Wow, those are hefty prices!! :scared1: They should put a disclaimer on the site saying prices at the gate differ from those online. Am I odd to say that I have no desire to go there? :confused3

After reading my TR you really won't have any desire. My TR that i did back in 2007 was much different. we had a great time then. I just feel like the place is going downhill. If it weren't for Harry Potter I would never want to go back.

Now, I am chewing my fingernails to hear about US/IOA because I was just there end of Dec and we had a blast....

Next up was “One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish”! :fish:

Florida022-1.jpg

This is a ride much like Dumbo and the Magic Carpets at MK. Except for one small detail ………....... you are randomly sprayed with water during the ride by these fish statues , which I WASN’T aware of until after I boarded our fish! :scared1:

Florida020-2.jpg

Florida021-2.jpg

By the end of the ride I was pretty wet, and DBIL and DH were laughing at me because I was screaming each time I was sprayed in the face.:lmao: Reya and the girls enjoyed it so that’s all the matters, right?! :confused3

Once we were finished with our wet and soggy ride, we went to ride the “High in the Sky Trolley Ride” but once we got there we were told that it was closed for the moment due to PAINTING! What?!? Why in the world would they be painting during business hours? Isn’t that something that should be happening during the time the park is closed not during the measly 9 hours that the park is opened during the day?! So of course this is my 4th complaint of the day!

Since there was nothing else to really do at this end of the park, we bid farewell to Seuss Landing and headed towards my favorite Roller Coaster “Dueling Dragons”. :woohoo:

Florida023-2.jpg

Florida025-2.jpg

As we were making our way towards the Roller Coaster we were noticing that a LOT of things were closed in that general area. It didn’t take us long to realize that Dueling Dragons was completely blocked off and closed due to the Harry Potter construction that was going on. And not only was dueling dragons closed but so was another coaster that was in the general area. ((can’t remember the name of it, something to do with a unicorn)) By this time I was getting REALLY irritated. We spent all this money to get into the park and we had barely been there two hours and ran across 3 rides that weren’t functioning. So this brings up my 5th and 6th complaint!

So after realizing that a huge chunk of the park was closed we started making our way towards the Jurassic Park Area. On the way over we were able to catch a glimpse of Hogwarts, which was pretty neat to see. I was really bummed that it wasn’t open during our visit. When we had originally started planning our trip over a year ago, we had high hopes that it would have been opened by now. But of course they kept moving the opening dates further and further away, so it was just not meant to be. :sad1:

Florida027.jpg

Hogwarts.. Kinda weird seeing the palm trees in the way

Florida028-1.jpg

Hogmeade

Florida029-1.jpg

It looks like it’s going to be really amazing once it’s finished. Right now, that’s the only reason I would ever return to IOA if I ever do.:rolleyes1

After I took a few pictures of the Harry Potter area and we were making our way towards the Jurassic Park area we ran into a stray cat. :cat: That was pretty random and weird. I thought it was kind cool though that he was hanging out around Hogwarts. Maybe be belongs to one of the witches there?! ;)

After a short walk we made to Jurassic Park.

Florida032.jpg

We went straight for the Pteranodon Flyers. Once we arrived we were told that only Children were allowed on that were BELOW a certain height and they had to be supervised by an adult. So in other wards the only persons allowed to go in our party was Reya, Will, Victor, and Valerie. Breanna being tall for her 9 years, wasn’t allowed to ride because she didn’t meet the height restriction. So yet another ride that I couldn’t go on. The rest of us waited behind while the boys took Reya and Valerie. So now I’m up to my 7th complaint of the day and it’s not even noon yet.
:sad2:
Reya ended up loving it, so that was one plus. If I have to sit back and be bored while my kid has a good time, I can live with that.

So after they were finished with their ride we went to the Jurassic Park water ride. This too is one of my favorites and I was looking forward to riding it. :goodvibes

Well……… of course once we arrived we were told it was closed indefinitely due to maintenance and they didn’t know when it would be up and running again. :scared1:

It felt like a slap in the face….. So there’s complaint number 8 for ya!

To be continued …………………………

Yikes! DH had talked about trying to go to Universal while we were there this trip. Sorry buddy - that's a big nope! :rotfl: We may go for breakfast with the Grinch but honestly that would be it and it would have to be in the middle of the trip. I don't think I could start or end with anything other than Disney. Is Sea World any better? I've never been but my boys love animals so maybe that one's a better shot? I just hate paying that much to stare at animals...I can do that at the zoo and it's less expensive....that's just me though! :rolleyes1

I'm so sorry that IOA wasn't as good as your last trip. :( I've never been. I've never really been too interested but would love to go when Harry Potter opens up. I love Sea World and we would go at least once a year (one day a year military and dependents can get in for free) but we've usually only had a chance to go one day at a time to Orlando so Disney wins. Whenever we move back to the states (we're hoping for Cali or FL) we'll be going more often.

Im going to Universal and IOA for grad night and i never been there before and i hope i dont have the same experience. :sad2::sad2:

Wow, doesn't sound very fun. That'd make me mad too. I hope it gets better...
I've really been enjoying your TR! Thanks.

loving your report, and read it all today! lol

so sorry about your IOA day, what a pain to have all those issues. I've done IOA, but would like to one day, I just have a hard time giving up a disney day- we always seem to have something booked.

love all the great pics though!! Your kiddos are just adorable!

Oh gosh, I can' t believe you paid more for this day than you had intended. And that is the strangest height requirement I've ever heard of. Waiting to hear about the rest of your day!
