The Bahamian Rum Runners! May 18, 2012 - 5 Nights on the Magic!

Well we finally got our reservation made.

Amy(43) and I(43) will be joining you'all for our first cruise. They told us that the Dress up night is going to be the 3rd night and Pirate Night is 4th night so we are looking forward to it. WE are already planning our FE.

Is there going to be a 5K? Where would I find info on it?

Thanks,
Jim

There is a 5k when we are in Castaway. I saw a little bit of information on the Disney Cruise website. There is a dress up night?!?!?! I didn't know that! What is consider "dress up"? Is it tux and formal dresses?

I believe we have a semi-formal night on our sea-day, but no formal night as the cruise is too short.

Semi-formal is roughly "dressy casual" or somewhere in between cruise casual and formal, which means you can pretty much wear whatever you're comfortable with. Many opt for sports coat and slacks for men, or perhaps just a dress shirt and tie, and a cocktail dress or equivalent for women. There are many, many threads on this topic on the main cruise line forum.

DW and I like getting dressed up on cruises, which means that I've worn my tux for both formal and semi-formal nights (I wear it with a vest one night, and a cumberbund the other, to give me a slightly different look).

Sorry. I jumped the gun. Amy's boss has a time share that month so we have to bump back to April.

Bummer.

Jim

Thanks! I will go back and look!:woohoo:

I believe we have a semi-formal night on our sea-day.....

This was in the FAQ on disneycruise.com:

On 4-night cruises:

First night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One "dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
Final night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

There wasn't anything for 5-night cruises.

I was told that night 3 was "Dress-up" night, the semi-casual but they said everything from costumes to tuxes was seen. Night 4 is the Pirate night. The other 3, nights 1,2, and 5 are cruise casual.

Looking at the posted Navigators for two 5 day cruises (Wonder and Dream - neither of which were on our itinerary), one had a semi-formal night and the other a "optional dress up" night.

Bottom line is that we have one "nice" night, one pirate night, and 3 cruise casual nights.

This will be DCL #6 for us. For formal and semi formal nights we have done everything from super dressed up to not at all. If you feel uncomfortable going down not dressed up, the buffet always offers casual dinning and the same food as the main restaurants. Also a good choice if you want to eat early or later than your assigned time.

For Pirate night, we have gotten dressed up in full costumes with wigs and also just worn a Pirate t-shirt. Each cruise has had a different turn out for guest dressing up for Pirate night.

My advice, do what is most comfortable for you on vacation an enjoy. The staff don't really care how you dress and will not turn you away.

i was posting a response to a question. I'm not concerned as I'll be taking formal attire even if the evening is semi-formal.

We will also be driving from Atlanta, leaving the morning the day before the cruise. We'll probably stop in Valdosta for lunch at the The Smokin' Pig BBQ for lunch and somewhere (before FL) to get gas. Last time we stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott a couple of miles from port. We haven't decided where we are going to stay this time. We also do not park at the terminal.

Thanks for the gas tip, will be sure and fill up before I hit the FL line..

We have been tossing around several ideas about where to stay... after spending a few hours on tripadvisor, and mousesavers, and about a million other websites, I'm thinking we might do the DTD area and then just drive over to the port that morning. Anybody else ever done this? (the DH is wanting to turn 1 or 2 nights before the cruise into longer and a trip to WDW, but i'm not sure about all that just yet.... although the groupon for the hilton was pretty tempting....) :)

I know we'll spend at least one night before the departure day, maybe 2 and if he talks me into it 3 (I have to admit, I'm a tightwad LOL) but that's the max I'll go... I saw on mousesavers that the Best Western in DTD is only $79 and then I found the Ramada for $45 on a site like groupon (but then I read the reviews so I'm not to sure about that one....... :sad2:)

we've never been to WDW, disney cruise (or any cruise), or DTD, so everything is totally new for us, and I'm thinking DTD will be enough for now, and then we can do a WDW another time, but IF he talks me into going there for a day or two... which park would you recommend me hitting? (I'm not in to park hopping, because frankly, I would assume that would take up to much time?) But I am loving the idea of rainforest cafe or the t-rex place that's like it (although i've heard it's realllllly loud!!!) because we just don't have those kinds of things up here in arkansas!!! :yay:

I like the idea of Downtown Disney for a visit before the cruise. Its no at all like visiting a park. Its like a Disneyfied outdoor mall. Shops you can find anywhere else in the country and some you can't. Then you'll have an outdoor festival feel too with jugglers and magic acts and music.

What I like is the World of Disney store. Our family spends well over an hour there if we can.

For dinner at Downtown Disney, we like Planet Hollywood with Rainforest Cafe as a close second. But if we don't want a long wait, there's a Wolfgang Puck counter service place that always has good food quick.

If I had to pick ONE park it has to be Magic Kingdom.

I'll second the Magic Kingdom recommendation. I'm a big kid at heart and feel that MK has all the core Disney attractions and lore that you can't miss.
