The BAD About Our Recent Trip...

My only pet peeve and its a BIG one is when families can't seem to get in line for a ride at the same time.............one person gets in line in front of me then 5 minutes later here comes 3, 4, ,6 ,or more poeple who cut in front of me just to be with their family................UGH. Don't get in line unless your entire party is there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

My kids chase seagulls and other flocks of birds. They did it just this weekend while we were camping? Are people looking at me this way?

Does it harm the seagulls and if it does, do I really care since they are just rats with wings :) ?

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be rude but for some reason, when you type things they always sound mean! :)
Well think of it this way, if your family was sitting around relaxing, be it eating or just taking a leisurely walk and something 10 times your size comes running up to you screaming while flailing their arms about wildly, would you think it was cute or funny then? I always look at things this way, if something's not bothering me, there's no need for me to bother it.

Another example is think of all of the stories you read in the newspaper or on the news about how a tiger/elephant/lion/bear, etc goes on a rampage at the circus and starts mauling or trampling people...those animals get to put to sleep, regardless of how much proof has been submitted to show that the animal was provoked. These are wild animals and although it may not occur to some people, they have much the same temperment that we do. If your kids were running circles around you or poking you in the butt, you'd tell them to stop cuz it's annoying you. Animals do much the same thing, only they have sharper teeth :teeth:

I can't answer how other people are looking at you? That's what I would think, but I'm not all people. If you want to let your kids chase the animals, that's your right as much as it is my right to be of the opinion that it shows blatant disregard for another living creature and any other HUMAN that may be enjoying it. I'm sure if the situation were different, you'd feel the same way.

Furthermore...what is accomplished by doing that? Your own kids get some sort of pleasure and amusement by torturing, scaring and disturbing an animal? And you see that as normal? And by allowing them to continue the action, IMO, you promote the message that it is acceptable?

Oh...off on a tangent sorry...to answer your question, yes, I would look at you this way and yes, it is very obvious that you do not care. :thumbsup2

Seagulls are nasty creatures. I see no more reason to be nice to them than if I found a bug in my camper or a rat in my kitchen.

Does that sound mean?

Are you implying that I'd let my children run around and poke elephants?

I'm kidding! :rotfl:

No I really wanted to know if other beachgoers/campers find that bad. And generally seagulls aren't "sitting around with their families"- they're scavenging ...waiting for my kid to turn away from his french fries!

HMMMMM funny you should say that. Do your children eat meat? Wear leathers or furs? Because my children don't. We don't support industries whose bottom line is dollars and so don't kill humanely. Do you? Because if you do, I think you are promoting the message that thats acceptable. Do you get pelasure out of eating animals that were tortured by thefarming industry? Do you know that your hamburgers are skinned before they are allt he way dead? What kind of torture are YOU telling YOUR children is ok? What kind of disgusting example are you.

I'd say, in the grand scheme of things, chasing away seagulls is ten times more acceptable than eating meat or wearing the fur of foxes who are anally electrocuted.

Who is the bad example now BAMA?

OK, I'll join the tangent with you. Chasing, scaring, harrassing (etc.) animals is just wrong and annoying to the animals and to others, no matter how you try to spin it. This includes letting your children beat on the glass at AK, zoos, etc. I just have to shake my head and mumble a bit every time I see a child (or adult) doing it, and really have to question what they are thinking. [/rant]

"and any other HUMAN that may be enjoying it"

????????????????????

raise your hand if you are a human who enjoys begging birds during your picnic.

Ha ha ha...first off...you wouldn't in a million years catch me in a fur of any kind. It rarely gets that cold in AL...ha ha ha, j/k...I am VERY anit-fur FOR FASHION as well.
As far as eating meat, heck yeah I'm going to eat it...for nurishment, not fun. If there is an organization that promotes kinder treatment of the cows before they become burgers, let me know and I'll support that too.
If a gull or duck is trying to come down and get my food, heck yeah I'm going to chase them away, those are MY fries! So yeah, I can understand chasing something away from your food.
But you and I both know that chances are good you're going to see more kids chasing ducks because they think it's funny than you are because the duck was trying to get it's food. Or what about the rabbits? They're not after anyones food, yet you see them chased all the time.
And I don't enjoy animals begging for food, but I might be enjoying watching a mama duck w/ her babies minding their own business too much to just write off some hoodlum who wants to come along and try to catch them.

I never claimed to be a perfect/better example or a better parent at all. (Ha ha...I just posted somewhere else that sometimes I let my dd eat cake for breakfast.) But I will say that my child doesn't chase the ducks! :goodvibes

I'm guilty of letting the kids run after the seagulls - I've taken great pictures of the kids with all them flying around with the kiddies pretending to fly too. I've also taken pictures of the kids feeding the seagulls food (not alka seltzers).

I am also guilty of eating meat and wearing leather. I don't wear fur just due to the fact that I don't live in a climate for fur but if I were up north and that was the warmest kind of coat I could get - I would wear it.

I tend to think that we were given dominion over the animals and they are a food source. So instead of eating just veggies - I'll opt for meat and chicken too.

popcorn:: I'll have some! I've seen AllyCatTapia on some other threads, and this could get interesting!

And when we go to the pond to feed the ducks - they sometimes chase my kiddies too once we run out of food to feed them. So I guess animals can also do some chasing.

The UNECCESARY use of strollers, wheelchairs, and electric chairs.

Parents - If your children's legs bend up to their chest in the strollers, chances are they can walk on their own. ;)

A bruise on your arm does not entitle you to a wheelchair. It especially does not entitle you and your 10 person party special treatment to the front of the line.

And my favourite of all. Just because you are lazy, it does not entitle you an electric chair. My heels and legs especially don't appreciate it when you run me over.

I hate to say this but if there was ever a tell tale sign that this country has an obesity problem, WDW reveals it.

Oh my! Well, that gives you the right to act anyway you please and say anything you want because you are an animal right activist!

Gimme a break...

Wow. :sad2:

Isn't part of being a parent supposed to be teaching your children kindness to others and to animals?

My DD (she's 21 months) probably would instinctively chase a duck, seagull, any animal that moves. She naturally wants to pet it, and at her age, chasing and being chased is fun. My job, as I see it, is to 'teach' her that chasing an animal isn't kind, and/or smart (chasing the wrong animal will get her attacked/hurt).

When did it become acceptable to chase or hurt (I understand shooing them away from your food etc) any animal just because you (general you) think it's a 'rat with wings'? So, my kid can grow up thinking that because she doesn't like an animal (dog, horse, snake, seagull etc) it's okay to chase, torture, whatever it? Wow. Why is it okay to chase one that won't likely hurt her over one that is still gross, ugly, dirty or whatever but big enough to hurt her? Do I go on to teach her that chasing ducks and gulls is okay, but that chasing a horse or cow isn't?

Maybe that's where the differences between races, countries etc discrimination come from? That because another person is ugly, useless, dirty, it's okay to chase them and/or be mean to them?

Pass the popcorn please. :)

oh boy, Am I going to have a good time making fun of this post.
(this is in reference to my ever so popular complaining about WDW satires)

please tell me this was toddlers. Not adults. I would not excuse this from a toddler, but that is only a trickle of pee. A big fat person like me could pee a gallon or so.

can't wait to hear what was good about the trip.

Oh canda! (sorry about the pun, I couldn't help myself) I can relate. I bet we both get the Liter sized beer at that German Buffet with the show. Sorry I just can't recall the name of the place.

If you were to look at my mom you would probably think this, BUT she has very severe arthritis in her knees...............so in order to get around WDW she uses a scooter. She should not have to wear a sign explaining herself. IN fact, I noticed the last trip, that people are extremely inconsiderate of people in wheelchairs and scooters. There were numbers of times when my mom should have run someone over because they just cut right in front of her.

I am also just completely stunned that you think that just because people use scooters that they are LAZY. I hope you never have to use one yourself someday!!!

I agree that you can't tell by just looking at people, but I have seen families w/ one person being pushed in a chair, run into them later to find a different member is now being pushed, and yet another later on....yeah THIS is a dead givaway.
I think it just peeves me to *know* that it happens, whether I recognize the situations or not. But whatcha gonna do... :confused3 I'd rather focus on something else.

Nicely said but I do want to apologize for starting an animal rights movement here...I was just saying that it bothers ME when I see people harassing (for lack of a better word) the animals they come across. Like I said before, I just always think if it's not bothering me, I shouldn't bother it. Despite the fact that seagulls (or whatever) are scavengers, thats just the way they are. No one said you have to feed them but the problem is that many people do...despite signs asking them not to. This is why they hang around and follow us all over creation...hoping for just one more fry. If you want to let your kids chase after a flock of seagulls (not the band) then you go ahead. I can agree that a picture of kids with birds flying all around is probably very cool and makes a great memory, but again, it's fun for you and your kids, but not so much for the seagulls. Just like they have a great time hanging around at your table while you eat lunch, but it's quite obnoxious to you (and myself as well...they're fine on the ground but I certainly do not want them sitting on the table sharing my food right out of the little plastic Mickey dish.

Just to throw this out there (and no one make fun of me for this! :rotfl: ):
"There is an old Indian Legend that says when a human being dies, there is a bridge they must cross to make it to Heaven. At the head of the bridge are all of the animals that person has encountered in their lifetime and it is they who decide who is allowed to pass and who is turned away."

Now lets all be friends again! :sunny:
