The Bachelorette 2/18

Who watched "The Men Tell All"? Should have called it "The Men Tell Almost Nothing".

I taped it and watched Survivor instead. I'm bummed that it wasn't as good as we hoped. I'll have to watch my tape in the morning.

I thought the men all seemed very sweet and seemed to have learned a lot about themselves - with the exception of Lanny (who thought his mom was great and wouldn't have changed a thing). They all seemed to handle much embarassment with grace.

Note to Lanny - even if you agree with what she's saying, it's not okay to let your mom badger your girlfriend. Tsk Tsk.

I think Lanny did the right thing since he will STILL have to livie with his Mom.... can you imagine having that woman on your BAD side???

I think he reacted honorably, after all she did do it for him, even if it was tacky. His explanation made a bit of sense, he explained that she wouldn't normally do this but this was her only shot. No excuse, just a reason.

I doubt if it will scare too many people away from him, though. He looked so adorable last night!

I have no doubt Lanny will be able to find a woman who completely agrees with his mom's way of thinking.

I agree with Robin. I thought it showed a lot of class and respect that he stuck up for his mother-Shows that he will stand up for his wife. It would have looked bad for him on TV to dis his mom.

Also, is anyone from Texas? Because if you're from Texas and you're a Southern Baptist, the mother was not out of line. My husband's best friend married a woman who would be Lanny's mother's dream daughter in law. Southern Baptist, Texan, a virgin at 34 and was raised that men are head of household. It's not wrong, just different from how independent California women like myself were raised.

As usual, I totally agree with my cousin Robin. :) Lanny is a real man, that is for sure, I was on the fence about him before last night, now I think he is the best of the bunch.

I have tons more to say about last night's show but gotta run for now. Will be back.

Judging by the screams of the females in the audience everytime Lanny's name was mentioned, I doubt he'll have any problems finding a girlfriend.

I thought some of the outtakes were interesting. She sure had nothing good to say about Rick behind his back. Sometimes I think Meredith isn't as sweet as people think.

It's interesting how ABC is promoting this as "Will Meredith choose the Safe one or the Risky one?" . Even Matt could be considered risky because he lives in the "country" and she's a city girl.

My favorite quote of the night was when Chris asked Chad about his mom saying "So what do you see in this unemployed person?" and Chad saying "Yes, my own mother threw me under the bus!". He really took all the ribbing with a good sense of humor.

 Oops! Didn't realize it was on last night!

I really hope she chooses Matthew. They make such a wonderful couple.
Something about Ian just rubs me the wrong way. Especially since she went to NYC to meet his family and only met his brother and best friend...
Ian seems strange and distant to me.
And Meredith and Matthew seem so natural together!

I hope it is Matthew!::yes::

I wouldn't be surprised if Lanny is the next "Bachelor"!

Well since shes from Portland, our local news has been running little snippets of "behind the show" type interviews with her. Seems that by the last "dream dates" she knew who was the "one" and the other two dates were "nightmares" (remember...she has a show to do and a "role" to play) I'd love to see the behind the scenes confessionals from those.

I agree, Jill! I thought Chad was adorable last night! In fact, all the guys were, even that motor mouth guy! I think that given the circumstances of having their every word taped for TV, they were just nervous and might have acted differently had their dates with Meredith been private.

I hope she picks Ian so we can have Matthew for the next Bachelor. Hello, hottie.

I think the most interesting part of this Bachelorette is that we can see "what type of women we are" and "where we are in our lives" by which man we prefer, especially given that they look so similar, so the physical component of selection is minimized. Want some spice in your life, international intrigue, big city blue blood, mystery, tall sexiness? You like Ian. Want some devotion, security, stability, classic handsomeness, verbal articulation of feelings? You like Matthew. It's all about one or the other, and even funnier, we're very split down the middle on it!

to answer pnelson - I am from Texas and am Southern Baptist, and I did think his mom was completely out of line. While I do believe most of what she said, she never should have thrown her opinions onto her son's date like that, no matter the circumstance. I too am a very strong (and strong willed) woman and I would not let my dh run all over me. I don't believe that is what she was talking about.

Instead, I think she is talking about the Biblical basis of marriage, which is what I believe. In that, yes, the woman is submissive to her husband, but there is more to it. The key to making God's model of marriage is to follow it completely, not just for the wife. The rest of the verses in the passages on marriage instruct the husband to love his wife "as Christ loved the church" and to put her first. When everyone obeys what God has instructed, you end with a loving secure marriage in which the wife can submit to her husband becuase he loves her so totally that he will never ask anything of her that is not in her best interest. It is really a beautiful concept and it works.

I don't blame Meredith for running the other way though. If my MIL ever attacked me like that, she would get an earful! It was one thing for me to believe the way I do, but it would be another for a mil to assault me with it!

Anyway, I'm rooting for Matthew. He just seems so genuine!

I agree with you hipporina. I thought her giving Meredith the evangelical third degree was sneaky and underhanded. What if Meredith was Jewish or Muslim? It was painful to watch, I am sure it must have been painful for Meredith to have experienced.

I do respect Lanny for having the fortitude to stand by his mother on national TV though.

Dana, interesting observation. I'm married to a Matthew type, happily so for 17 years, but I like Ian best. Hmmmm......... I'm not sure why, something tells me he is very vulnerable deep down inside.

Like I said, I didn't think it was wrong-just different. I also thought the guys came off very well last night. I wish they would have addressed Chad living with his mother though. That was more suspicious to me than being temporarily unemployed.

I don't like Ian at all...Too brooding and mysterious. I wouldn't trust it at all. From what they've showed, it seems like she will pick Matthew, but that could be editing.

Yep, I am. I know a female physician who would totally agree with everything Lanny's mom said. SCARY if you ask me.

I don't think Lanny's mom was wrong b/c of what Lanny said. As far as she knew, her son could be engaged to this woman the next time she saw them. I think that Meredith needed to know exactly what type of background/beliefs that Lanny grew up with. If that scared her off, then I think it was for the best. If Lanny agreed with his mother, which he seemed to do last night, then Meredith obviously wasn't the type girl he needed to marry anyway.

I believe that today, some people aren't realistic about marriage. They go into it without truly thinking through their differences, believing "Love conquers all". Well, after all those mushy gushy "love" feelings go away, you're left with a marriage between two people who have a whole lot of things to work through.

Lori P. :)

I heard they already announced the next Bachelor as being Jesse Palmer (NFL player).

Did anyone else hear this?
