Greetings!

Less than a few weeks ago my DW and I decided to investigate buying into the DVC - specifically at the SSR through Disney ("And So It Begins"). I got lots of good advice, and I spent a lot of time researching the DVC. Well, today we took the next step. I placed a call to a Guide highly recommended to us, Jim McCoy, and had a nice conversation with him. He was filled with useful info, was very straightforward and spoke his mind - exactly what I want when addressing something of the complexity of the DVC. I had assumed that, since we are going down to WDW Oct 1 - 8, that we would want to start the process then. Well, I assumed wrong. Not only were we ready to accelerate the process, but Jim did point out that the resort has been selling well and that Disney could cancel/reduce the $10/point incentive at any time (AP discounts, anyone?). So now we have a package on its way with all kinds of info that we will go over. We then have the option of going through a purchase proposal over the phone and putting down $$$ right then and there (locking in rates and bennies) or doing it at WDW. We can also decide to sign before we go and mail the docs to Jim, or again wait and sign at WDW. Since we probably know more about DVC and SSR than we did about our condo when we had it built, I'm willing to bet that we continue to move ahead quickly.

Thanks for all the information and advice - I'll continue to keep you apprised of the situation. And if anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Erick

Oh, and to others who graciously offered us their Guide's information, thanks - but we used Jim because he was in today and the others weren't ;)

I can relate to that avalanche your talking about. The end of July, I went (in a matter of about 4 days) from renting points at BWV (thanks Dean) to thinking about buying 150 points sometime in the next year or so to buying 300 BCV points with MB (Feb. use year)... The deed won't be recorded until sometime this week nor have I even made my first trip home and I'm already thinking about 150 point OKW resale (I have 5 siblings, 7 nieces & nephews and am feeling the need for an 11 month window for GV's). This is madness!!!

I, too, want to thank all of you for all of the great info. The knowledge really helped in making the decision and in processing all of the information.

Don't feel bad. We took the promotional AKL package in the summer of 2002 because we really wanted to stay at that resort and thought we might as well take the tour again. Had done it in 1992 but could not afford (or were unwilling to afford) it then.

Well the CM who made our reservation suggested that I call to get some information sent before we came down that Fall. I spoke with a very nice CM who passed me on to Byron who was great to work wtih. At that point we were just mildly interested and figured we would seriously consider it when we visited in the Fall.

Within a month we had bought BCV from Byron and a resale at OKW. Then we bought an add-on at BCV when we visited on our promotional trip.

DrTomorrow,

Glad to hear you had a good conversation with Jim.

The general consensus on these boards is that the incentives for SSR won't end in October but you never know. That is why we are going to add on before we go to WDW.

I'm excited for you and your family.

Keep us all posted on how it goes, any questions you have, if you end up purchasing SSR, etc.

We can't wait to book our first trip to SSR. :D :D :D :D

DR Tomorrow, Great name by the way. Many here know your excitement and I did as well. It is an affliction I rather enjoy!
My advice is do it ahead of time, I would have saved money had I done that. I was too skeptical, looking for the catch which I have never found. Originally went 250 points have added on three times since then. No regrets at all. Enjoy the thrill of it all!

Erick,

Hopefully soon we will be saying "Welcome Home" to you.:D

I already know the out come of this post (read ahead) but I just wanted to say I have really enjoyed taking this journey with you. We were where you are now, not long ago......

Enjoy those points. Enjoy SSR, enjoy DVC

AND WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!
