This thread will contain the results of all weekly photo assignment threads. I'd like to keep this thread as free of chat as we can and just make it a "one stop shop" for viewing all the great pics everyone has been taking for those assignments. Each post to this thread will contain the assignment for which the pics were taken, as well as the pics and the poster that took them. Going forward, I will update each week with the pics from the preceding week's contest.

Thanks, and if you aren't aware of the "Assignment" for the week, come on over to that thread and join in the fun!

These were taken on a short break 10 days ago. Dont get much chance to go out and shoot on spec, so I hope its OK to post these ones - they arent TOO old!! All taken with Canon 30D and Canon 70-300IS and shot at the Norfolk Broads, England.

I thought this monkey was so cute, last week at the zoo. It was inside and behind glass, so I used iso 1600, f8, 1/60. I think I was in aperture priority. It would have probably been better at iso 800 with a wider aperture.

Week 2 Assignment: "Pink Elephants on Parade" (Animals)

This is a picture of my daughter's hand while we were at the butterfly house in EPCOT this past Thursday. That butterfly stayed there for at least 15 minutes.

butterflyh600x520.jpg

One more from there.

tinkbutterfly.jpg

Since I only posted one picture before, I thought I'd post another. He was funny, he came right up to the glass to check us out when we were visiting the flamingo's at the zoo last week.

DSC_1130.jpg

This one has a bit of a story... We've been noticing a pair of rabbits hopping through our backyard far more frequently lately. Finally figured out why this afternoon. I went to clean the weeds out of a planter on our deck to plant some new flowers we'd just brought home when the soil moved. In a hole about 5-6" deep and across are 4 baby rabbits. We called our vet for advice and were told that they would most likely be out of the nest in a week based on their size and that momma has been tending to them at least daily for at least a week or more (we never noticed and neither did our dog). Our dog has now noticed them so I've put up sturdy cardboard box that momma rabbit can get through but not our dog and will be leaving some food out to help ensure that momma returns. We were careful not to touch them while checking them out and snapping some some photos (of the one on top at least, they are really crammed in there).

I took these with my new D40 and the 18-55 kit lens. I did use a fill flash to get his coloring right (he was half in the sun).

My third and final pic. We see these two every spring, I'm pretty sure it's the same two. ;)

Week 3 Assignment: "Reflection"

I like this subject matter. :) Here's one I took this past winter down at one of the lakes here in town.

302408431.jpg

Hi, I'm new to photography (well, I've been taking 'snaps' for years of course but I'm new to trying anything other than turning on the camera and pressing the button) so please go easy on me! Of course I would welcome any advice :)

I took these yesterday, the first one was actually taken on auto I think

P1000483.jpg

Then I took this view (on 'scenery' setting) ...

P1000496.jpg

I know the horizon isn't straight - it's better on this version (taken on AP) but I don't think I like the colour so much? (but I'm not really sure which is better!)

P1000495.jpg

I haven't done anything at all to any of the photos, mainly because I don't really know how to! I have ordered Photoshop Elements though so it should arrive sometime this week and I can try it out :)

Here are my three for the week...

Hey, who's that?

I wish the reflection was stronger in this one, but the trees hardly had any leaves (2 weeks ago)
p63634600-3.jpg

I'm a band mom - DS18 is graduating this year after 5 years in marching band, DS16 has been marching for the past 2. Back in 2005, the theme of our show was "Reflections" - Reflections of Form, Sound and Light. DH was in charge of building the props, and they came up with these mylar-covered pyramids that would spin during the "Reflections of Light" movement. Our garage was used as the workshop for a good 4-6 weeks. So whenever I hear the word "Reflections", this is the first thing I think about.

Here is the prototype; they ended up building 7 of them in all:
IMG_1934.jpg

And here's how they looked during a night performance:
IMG_1946.jpg

Andy and Amy, you guys are funny! Believe it or not, I didn't even think of the MGM shot - but I will repost it because that "reflection" caused quite a bit of controversy (is it a puddle? is it a car? is it a table? is it a trashcan?) :lmao: That water shot assignment was memorable, too, LOL.

Taken at closing time in Jan, 2005, with my old 3.1MP pns from atop a trash can, a tip I'd just learned on the Dis. (First place winner Aug, 07.)

Week 3 Assignment: "Reflection"

Here's one I did last week, it's tree sap.

290279661_aY99e-L.jpg

This one is from about a month ago, but it's the newest reflection photo I've got. I'm going to try to get out this weekend and take some new ones.

From the Sheikh Zayed mosque in Abu Dhabi:

SheikhZayedmosque-reflectedcolonnad.jpg

Okay- this one is from last Saturday night waiting for Wishes- so I guess it did not make the assignment- but I love the Mickey reflection in her EYES. Thought I would share it.

This is from my car's windshield. I wanted to capture the street in front of it while waiting for my son to finish baseball practice.

We went to a wedding yesterday, and the bride and groom left in a vintage Packard. I hadn't planned on getting a reflection shot, but when I uploaded my shots this morning, viola! Taken with my S3 IS on Program mode.

I had a few reflective photos taken this week - not directly for this particular project, but I was asked to add them to the thread since they fit, so here they are. :thumbsup2

All taken at the TPC @ Sawgrass this past week, site of the "Players Championship on the PGA Tour (professional golf) in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (near Jacksonville).

Greetings, fellow Jacksonvillian(?).

Where were those gardens located (Longwood) - lovely shots. (I'm guessing not Longwood, Florida?)

I couldn;t get out and shoot this week because my DD was sick all week! SO here are a couple that I had already taken.

I hope I am not too late...

It may be a stretch, but you can see a reflection of the lamp post and some clouds in the wet surfaces of the "splash pad".

I have a similar picture where all the water is hitting the surface at the same time...

Week 4 Assignment: "Substitutionary Locomotion" (Movement)

Good topic- Here is one from last weekend with the topic in mind...

294542658_64MWV-O.jpg

I think it conveys the idea of motion.

I took these this weekend. I have gone "M"anual from Av and didn't botch too many shots, so I ain't looking back :thumbsup2 .

My favorite subjects are my kids, and I try to capture them in action.

Ok here are my efforts - taken at Whipsnade Zoo in the UK last weekend:

Tiger walking through water - we missed a fantastic photo opportunity here as this guy came and put his paws on the glass right in front of us just after I took this pic... it was a bit unexpected and neither of us had our camera ready! Fantastic to see him sooo close up though :thumbsup2

...and Ringtailed Lemus "stink fighting" - this is a dominance display that the males use against each other. They rub their tails over glands to spread their scent, and then they arch their tail over their backs and sort of flick it at each other... you can see the movement in the top of his tail (I hope!)

Week 4 Assignment: "Substitutionary Locomotion" (Movement)

My 3 contributions:

Can you stand another bicycle photo? :)
I practiced panning with my son this afternoon. Of the 50 shots I took, this was the best one. Too bad I didn't get the whole bike in the shot. Panning is not easy and I can see that I'm going to have to practice regularly to become any better.

This is one where I tried to focus on the wheels. Again, not easy at all. I did like the motion of the spokes on the front wheel.

Getting my very active 7 year old on film as anything other than a blur is always a challenge:

Getting the maracas during the school music program is a big responsibility, they must be played with gusto.

266523338_sNsik-L.jpg

Something I've played with a bit with shots from various baseball games. Here my beloved Hokies got beat down by UNC but I had some fun with burst mode and Photoshop.

I love the water in this one.

DSC_5943.jpg

Awesome action photos everyone. I love the bike shots.

I went to NYC on saturday, thinking of all the action I would see there, but with a 6 year old, it wasn't very easy to keep track of him, and take pictures. This was the best I got while he ate a snowcone on a bench, and then a few of him at the hotel pool.

My husband got some motion shots at DDs soccer practice this past weekend. He was using our nice Canon S3 (did I mention I love that thing?!) and ended up getting a ton of great shots. I didn't want to go posting everyone else's kids though so here's some of my DD. The best pictures weren't even of DD though.

I took my little pocket sized Fuji FinePix (the I may want pictures but don't care about the quality camera :lmao: ) to a local amusement park on Sunday and managed to get some semi-decent motion shots. This is one of my favorites.

I don't know if anyone will even see these but here are a few more from the local AAA baseball game this week.

A few shots of our kitten briefly checking herself out in a mirror. She really could care less, though. We try putting her in front of mirrors and she doesn't care about the reflection at all. Oh well.

They aren't the best focused shots, but it is hard to keep a rapidly moving kitten in focus for very long! :)
