is stealing one of my best friends for basic training this summer. He's confided in me that he's a little nervous about it. He's never really been away from home for weeks on end like that. I'm so proud of him though. He's seventeen years old and he's got a freaking career. Most seventeen year olds are lucky to have a part time job.

Do you know anyone who's been in the military?
Would you consider joining?

No real point to this thread, I'm just going to miss my friend.

Hug a soldier, guys.

Wow that's very brave of your friend you should be proud.

As to your question I've have extended family in the military. Both of my second cousins one was in the air force and the other in the navy (they still are). I think they are my second cousins, but we're all close so I call them my aunt/uncle.
It's tough, but they are brave.

Lot's of positive vibes for your friend though!

My cousin was a marine, and my dad was a Petty Officer 1st Class in the navy for 10 years (which I happen to be incredibly proud of him for it).

Our city doesn't have base here (we do have an inactive one but it burnt down 2 weeks ago) so I don't know many people in the service.

I don't think I'd ever go into the service, I'm not that great with authority figures yelling at my face, and I'm not exactly the most athletic person.
