The Amazing Race starts tonight

Glad Shamir is gone, Brooke can go next. I was cracking up when she said, "I hope Ashton (I think) goes next--she's kind of annoying!" Um, yeah--the vote for most annoying would NOT go to Ashton, you big, fat whiner!

I also thought the redheaded bearded guy (Name?) was being a jerk this last episode. Very passive-aggressive, and being a jerk. Also, along with fear of heights or water, who the heck goes on AR and can't read a map?!? Talk about a very basic skill required to get you through!

I like the stranger twist. Tara and Joey I thought they would do better. I think Team LOLO is my fav that's left. I kinda feel like Brooke like to play the damsel in distress. If I was her partner I think I tell her to knock it off and just do the task she could have had the task done but it took longer to put on a show then to do the task itself.

It looks like I am in the minority but I don't like the stranger format. Too much arguing and next week looks even worse. It almost seems like the people who got to pick their partners near the first are happy, the others not so much. I really do not like the blonde lady from Texas, Ashton. I do not like the dynamic between her and Vanck. She treats him very badly.

This season is better than the reality "star" season. That was the worst.

To me it's the opposite. He doesn't trust her and doesn't even try to communicate with her. There seems to be a presumption that he's better at everything and she's only there to fill the gaps when he wants her to. In the last episode, she clearly understood the information the locals gave them on where they were going, and he insisted on a bunch of Google searches instead of trusting her to navigate. She's hasn't shown that she can't navigate yet, so there should have been more trust, I don't blame her for being annoyed. He's also taken a clue away from her and insisted on doing a road block without even discussing it. And he wasn't spectacular the times he did that.

I hope this isn't considered a spoiler, but I heard a rumor that these folks were going to be a Survivor cast. Then they were told they were doing AR instead. It's kind of refreshing that not everyone on the show knows how to read maps, etc etc. Bet there's even some that can't drive stick shifts, or herd animals. Everyone was getting so accomplished in the last many seasons so maybe they do need to switch it up occasionally.

I agree. it's kind of funny, my kids say, "OMG, he's just like Dad!" Which he is--I wonder if he's an engineer. In my case, though, I don't tolerate that crap, but, of course, I know my DH. Spcecifically, my DH likes to brag about how great his sense of direction is. He's the only one who believes that--he gets lost so easily, yet he persists in saying he has this great sense of direction.

I don't know if I believe this. I can maybe believe they were told they were doing a reality show, and not told which one. But, they would need some travel items--not just the backpacks, but things like all-weather gear, headlamps, and so forth.

I agree with QueenIsabella. The advance prep for TAR is so different from Survivor. Contestants need visas from multiple countries. That alone indicates vastly different advance times.

I have heard where people apply for one show and are selected for another. If someone is applying for either show, it's likely they already have a passport. And I'm sure the shows have production people and use expeditors to get the necessary documentation for entry to each country. The applicant is free to say no if they don't want to be on the other show.

Also glad that Shamir is gone I just felt sorry for his partner. Can you imagine if he and Brooke were on the same team - oh the drama. Brooke can go next was really surprised at how many people helped her and for the length of time they spent helping. The bearded guy was really controlling and I'm glad his partner didn't let him get her down. Glad that it was a non elimination leg. I don't understand how the express pass saved any time. In past seasons you went right to the pit stop and didn't have to do a task.

They didn't use the express pass. They did a fast forward which oddly took more time than the some of the teams completing the challenges. At least it was on a continuing round and didn't miss out on winning a prize plus they still came in early in the pack. Third I think.

OK, so the skydiving thing: Even in the summer a hot day in Norway would be, say, 70 degrees F. Generally speaking, you lose about three degrees for every thousand feet of altitude, and they went up 10,000 feet. That means that the temperature when they jumped out of the plane couldn't have been more than about 40F, probably even colder. And Becca & Droz were both in T-shirts! And with the wind speed during free-fall - ugh, that couldn't have been fun at all.

Also, the requirement for travel visas is either in person or by mail (depending on the country.) At any rate, this is not something the production staff will - can? - do for the contestants. Production lets them know what they need to get/do/provide, but the contestants need to do it themselves. Production staff can't, for example, get immunizations for the contestants. Just common sense.

Added bonus, these things take time. My oldest went to Ecuador for a semester last year, she needed some of the vaccines a couple months ahead, plus at least one required 2 shots. Plus, one med (diarrhea pills, maybe?), they wanted her to travel with 90 of them, but our insurance would only dispense 30 at a time. Now, AR could probably work around that particular issue, but I had to go three times to pick up what she needed. When she went to Peru a couple years ago, it was sort-of last minute, maybe 2 months warning. we had to jump through some hoops to get her the needed vaccines. When you visit your local health dept., they have the lists by country of which vaccines you need--it's not a small list!

DD also needed special permission from the country she was going to. Again, a little different, in that she needed a student visa. OTOH, she was only going to one country at a time.

I'm not clicking the link. Obviously the racers have to get their own immunizations. But there is time for the racers to get the paperwork in order in advance. If someone auditions for survivor and production thinks they would be better suited for AR, they are given instructions on what to do and to get a partner (if it's not a blind date/perfect stranger season) or they can decline. It's not as though someone thinks they are getting on a plane to be on survivor and they're diverted to the amazing race starting line.

Why not click on the link? It's not a spoiler.

I didn't even consider the travel visas that are needed for some of these counties. It would ruin the surprise a bit, wouldn't it?

Because as a rule, I don't click links posted on message boards unless I recognize the url. i would lick on a link to Amazon or Disney but I never heard of shejustglows.

I actually LOVE spoilers. :)

Glad Shamir was eliminated. Scott and Brooke can go next she is so annoying.:headache:
Becca and Urkel should have just used their express pass.

I totally agree...I feel really bad for their partners...I wish Shamir and Brooke would have gotten paired up...I'm not sure they would have made it through the first challenge - they are such whiners.

Copy the link and paste it into Google, then you'll see the preview (it's the blog of a former news anchor) and can view a cached version. Please don't post spoilers, we've already had that in this thread.

I would never post spoilers unless this was a specific spoiler thread like the Big Brother thread in the summer.

I think I read a while back they get visa's they won't actually be using in order to keep them on their toes.
