~ The Amazing Race ~ Season 16 ~

I guess I'm the only one who thought the brothers making fun of the Teen USA was hilarious...she deserved it...she was a complete airhead at that competition, and she put herself back out there, in the public eye, so of course, CBS is going to use it.

I thought it was funny too. In fact, I am shocked that so many took offense to it here. I don't think he called her stupid. He was only doing his impression of her answering the question. The actual clip of her on YouTube has about 40 million views. It's what she is famous for.:confused3

Here is the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww

I wonder if more people would've been offended if it had been one of the players mimicking (sp?) the gay brother?

I don't like it regardless of who is mimicking who or what the subject matter is.

I wouldn't mind at all, if the gay brother had been famous for saying something or acting a certain way, like Miss Teen SC is. I remember contestants from last race imitating the way certain players talked or acted. People here seemed to love it.

Last night was great! Mom and I enjoyed the first night of the race. My favourites are Jordan and Jeff, Steve and Allie (father/daughter), and Jody and Shannon (grandma/granddaughter). I keep calling Jody "Tank Grandma"! My mom likes Steve and Allie and the 2 moms. We both think we might like the Asian couple. I don't really care for the models, detectives, or dating women.

One of the funniest parts of last night was when the teams were racing to the ticket counter at the airport, one of the moms ran at the counter so fast, she almost went sailing over it! :rotfl: Oh, and Steve and Allie painting the inside of the house! We were cracking up! :rotfl:

I also think the producers had a hand in Jordan remembering her -- just like I thought they had a hand in someone "recognizing" one of the poker chicks in the last race. I had never even heard of the incident before I read about it on this thread. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have had any preconceived notions about her at all.

And I just have to ask..... why so many Jeff and Jordan fans? I mean they seem nice enough, I guess, but there seems to be nothing that sets them apart. I mean if I didn't know them from all the talk here they would just be "that guy and that girl who kept saying China instead of Chile." Maybe I will see more of their appeal as the race proceeds.

I liked the father/daughter team from the bios, but now I'm not so sure. I thought them barging into the house and painting it was hysterical though. I loved the attorney/moms though. I hope they get far. I also loved the cowboys despite their blunder, but I always love the farm/country teams.

I think if you had watch them all summer and getting to know their personalities and watching them flirt and develop a relationship, you would see what we all see!
We missed the airing of the episode last night, so we just watched it on-line. I think it's going to be a funny season...lots of funny one-liners! (I think it was the lesbian team who had the Martha Stewart reference about the paint color, pre-jail...LOL :lmao:)

My DS14, being the world's biggest Phillies fan, is routing for the father/daughter team, since he was a Phillies coach...;)

:thumbsup2 Although I heard he is with the Indians now but he was with us when we won the World Series!

I haven't picked out a team I really liked yet. I just started watching two years ago and so far both of the teams I picked have been the winners. Both times it took about 4 or 5 weeks though. I don't like the teams with Jordan or Caite already because they both come off as ditsy idiots. It might be editing but the clips they showed of both make me cringe. They could turn me but after the first week they have a long way to go.

I like the team with the grandma triathlete but I don't think they would be able to stay in there. There is always at least one challenge where there is a huge disadvantage for all girl teams or teams with an older contestant. I'm sure her fitness will make up for some of that but I am not sure I could see it happening. The same with the two attorneys.

It was a bit of an anti-climatic first week but I'm sure it will get better.

Caitlin Upton was also on a TLC show called King of the Crown. She was working with someone on answering questions that a judge may give and her answer was ridiculous. You could see a little bit of it on the youtube video. She is talking about antibotics. She really is as dumb as a rock.

I can't speak for the OP but can we just have fun & not make this a "who I hate thread"? Don't we have enough of those on the Dis already?

:wave2: I am the OP, and I have already posted to all to please remember to play nicely. :surfweb:

OK, carry on!!! :goodvibes

Perhaps you're right, and who knows, maybe I will end up seeing what you see by the end of the race. I'm always at a bit of a disadvantage when TAR has people on it that have been on other reality shows. Other than TAR and Project Runway, I don't watch them, so I never get to "know" the people on them the way others do.

While it was funny--it didn't make it right.

But they still almost came in second and at least they weren't the only team to get a time delay.

Firedancer, it was not the editing with Jordan. She is a brick short of a load, but she is funny.

Tinkerbell, that was the funniest part of the show to us when they started painting the inside of the house. :rotfl:

She was smart enough to win Big Brother. She deserves more credit than she gets.

Well seeing as I don't know anything about her as a real person, I don't dare judge her. I didn't watch her on big brother. I only watched her last night and while she seemed a bit ditzy, I didn't think she seemed like a total moron. Either way I don't know anything about her from one episode. One time she said Chile instead of China, but for all I know that could have been a simple slip of the tongue, that I could have done. Certainly not enough to judge her complete intelligence or worth as a human being. She seemed nice, and she's a local girl, so I feel compelled for now to root for her. And if by chance she really is a moron, why would that mean that she isn't as worthy of being rooted for as anyone else? So you can keep your condolences, they won't be needed here :)

Good thoughts.

I just wish people could have shared the same respect for Caite.

I'm a pretty smart person--but my "total recall" isn't there.

I know things--have no learning disability that I am aware of. But rote memorization is not a skill I possess and I will be very familiar with things but foul them up. It doesn't make me an idiot. I'm just not totally "good on my feet" so to speak.

But LOTS AND LOTS of defense her for Jordan--but lots of people confirming that Caite is an idiot with ONE on stage foul up. Which BTW, she would not have made it to the finals to do an on-stage question if she had been that ditzy in her pre-lim interviews. And someon said there is a you tube--whatever. That's why contestants get coached on pageant interviewing--b/c it ain't always easy to sound intelligent even when you are. Some folks are just more talented at that skill than others.

I felt Caite sounded pretty intelligent last night and I don't even have much to knock on Jordan. Who cares if Caite said "Danke" if we don't care if Jordan mixed up too very different countries on opposite sides of the globe.:confuse3

I'm sure if they showed clips of the other contestants who heard Jordan's comment mocking it--it wouldn't go over to well.

There's much to be said about respecting differences and insulting anyone's intelligence is never respectful.

But they still almost came in second and at least they weren't the only team to get a time delay.

Now that confused me when Caite said that they were "technically second"??? Ummm, no Caite, you were not second at all. You did not read the instructions, you will have a penalty of 30 minutes, so when the 30 minutes are up, you will come to the MAT and then that is what place you are in. :headache:

So Caite, you came in 7th. ::yes::

I forgot TAR started last night. I'm glad the full episode is online.

I really would have liked a 2 hour premiere. It takes me awhile to get a feel for the teams, so no favorites for me just yet.

I didn't get as negative a vibe toward any of the teams as some folks here seemed to.

I admit I thought the imitation of Miss Teen Geography was spot on, and it made me laugh, does that make me awful too? :guilty:
The full imitation was done in the interview segment away from any of the other racers, and while they made it look like he might have been talking about her while she was within earshot, I'm always suspect of the edit.

To be fair, when they were telling the girl couple about it--he did present it in an imitating manner.

He didn't do it just to the camera away from other contestants. And given how much the brothers enjoy his portrayal--it is extremely likely that he did it for other contestants.

I think you get her point--she wasn't an airhead.

They made a mistake and would have arrived earlier without the mistake.

Yes they came in 7th--but they were not the only team to err and they aren't teh first team in history to oops the clue.

I had to rewind as I got confused--The BB team misread the clue, but went and sought help--and they showed them on the ascenseur thing. I rewound and it doesn't show Caite and her partner misreading teh clue, but they headed down the same steps. They never came back and showed that they went all the way down.

So editing wise--it seemed they were fine. But of course I could just be an airhead for all I know.:rotfl:

They were still in the USA, LA. I thought it was racist, and if they had been white and made that remark about the people in the car being white, "so let's ask them because they will help us", I have a feeling it would have been perceived as a racist comment then as well.

Now, I didn't see it that way at all. Rather, it's likely their life experience has proved to them that they're more likely to get help from other black people than from white people.

cat mom said:
Having the big, strong guy do the high wire task was probably not the wisest choice. Once a team chooses who is going to do a task, is that it, or can they ever make a switch? Anyone know?
Not on a roadblock. On a detour, the team can switch between tasks, but on a roadblock the decision is final.

Seriously? Feel free to make fun of Jordan mixing up China and Chile. It's pretty funny. It was also funny on Big Brother when Jeff had to explain the clock to Jordan. Jordan would probably laugh at it herself. That is part of what made her so endearing to others on Big Brother. I will remember for future reference on this thread how it's so not funny to laugh at others who are on a TV show. I don't ever recall an Amazing Race thread being so SERIOUS before.
