~ The Amazing Race ~ Season 16 ~

We missed the airing of the episode last night, so we just watched it on-line. I think it's going to be a funny season...lots of funny one-liners! (I think it was the lesbian team who had the Martha Stewart reference about the paint color, pre-jail...LOL :lmao:)

My DS14, being the world's biggest Phillies fan, is routing for the father/daughter team, since he was a Phillies coach...;)

Since I missed the beginning last night, I didn't realize who he really was until we heard it on WIP this morning. Now DH & DS10(who will fight your DS for that biggest Phillies fan title:rotfl:) will be watching every episode with me!

When they were all running around looking for public transportation to the airport the lawyer moms found a car with other black people in it and proclaimed something along the lines of Oh good, other black people! They'll help us! - As if to insinuate that no other race of people would dare take a moment to stop and help them.

All 4 of us watching in our house had dropped jaws. We were all like WHOA! What the heck?

I didn't take it that way at all. I just took it as they saw someone who was of the same skin color as they were, in a foreign country and thought that they might have better luck with that person, not because they are judgemental on race or sex, but becasue so many others are and were taking the option to go with who they thought would connect with them the best and give them the help they were needing.

I look at it as the same thing the blondes delt with a couple of season ago in the middle east(?). They couldn't get any man to answer their pleading for assistance. All of the other teams that were asking for help, the answers were directed to the male member of the team. Some cultures are just that way.

They were still in LA - not really a foreign country - unless you are from a tiny town in VA like me! :)

That's the way I took it as well. (they were still in LA at the time).

Anyone know if they have past seasons on DVD?

Thats fine for you but it obviously wasn't how our house of 4 took it, and going back and forth over it won't change my opinion. I thought it was jerky, and thats ok. Thats my opinion.

Comment from my brother, in reference to the gay brother, the reason he had to make fun of Miss Teen is because in his mind he is a queen and he is just mad that he isn't the only queen on the show. He didn't mind the girls as much, but the brother was just ozzing with the attitude of look at me I'm special, cause I'm gay and you had better just deal with it.

Interesting perspective. So it's a jealousy thing.

I look forward to seeing how competitive he and his brother are against these other teams. It does seem like an unfair advantage because bull riders are world class athletes. They are highly trained, physically fit, and very agile.

There have been other athletes on before. The Harlem Globetrotters last year. The stunt guys from two seasons ago. It's not all about physical ability. Like Survivor's Outwit, Outplay, Outlast, there are multiple components to this game. And quite honestly, being a good athlete in one sport, may not translate well to some of the tasks they will be faced with. Adrian looked like a pretty strong guy, but the rope walking roadblock was more about balance and agility than strength.

I don't think you have to worry too much about them being "highly trained" as watching them last night....ummm...highly trained or not, I do not think they know this is a RACE! :lmao: Don't get me wrong, they seemed like wonderful young men but they need to move a little quicker AND not make snap judgments like they did with the money exchange.

Those Rhode Island bros, I hope they are not going to be like Sam&Dan from Season 15! :headache:

:happytv: Was dying at the money exchange. Really? Why did they think Brazilian money would work. I can just see the rest of the world laughing at the idiot Americans.

The lesbians are just mean. Can't stand them. And I dont really like the brothers either. Nothing wrong with pointing out Miss Teen SC but to mock her was just mean.

We are Big Brother watchers and Jeff and Jordan fans. We were actually surprised that they did as well as they did last night.

We liked the Miss SC team too.

The rest we'll just have to wait and see. I did feel sorry for the eliminated couple. I think they probably could have really used the money.

I hated the lesbians. I thought I would be routing for them... then they opened their hateful little mouths.

My DH and I LOVE:lovestruc Jeff and Jordan!!1 We were soooo happy that they came in first!! We  loved them on BB too!!

Can we all have fun on this thread? It's a reality show.
In the past I have really enjoyed AI, The Bachelor, etc threads. Reality shows are one of my guilty pleasures.

I can't speak for the OP but can we just have fun & not make this a "who I hate thread"? Don't we have enough of those on the Dis already?

I love the Grandma, don't know how far they will get but boy is she is great shape:thumbsup2

I forgot TAR started last night. I'm glad the full episode is online.

I really would have liked a 2 hour premiere. It takes me awhile to get a feel for the teams, so no favorites for me just yet.

I didn't get as negative a vibe toward any of the teams as some folks here seemed to.

I admit I thought the imitation of Miss Teen Geography was spot on, and it made me laugh, does that make me awful too? :guilty:
The full imitation was done in the interview segment away from any of the other racers, and while they made it look like he might have been talking about her while she was within earshot, I'm always suspect of the edit.

I didn't think any of the comments made by the dating ladies were malicious in nature. I just got the feeling that their sense of humor can be edgy. I thought some thier lines were pretty funny. ie: Louis Vuitton, and public transportation in LA = not using a valet.

If either of these are the most negative it gets, this will be the most tame TAR ever.

While I'd love the experience of traveling around the world and doing some the challenges on TAR, there is no way I'd actually want to be on the show. I imagine they could come up with plenty of unflattering material for my edit too.

Couple of procedural comments:

I imagine it had to take the team that lost the paintbrush longer to complete the task with just one. I was a little surprised that they got a penalty too.

Having the big, strong guy do the high wire task was probably not the wisest choice. Once a team chooses who is going to do a task, is that it, or can they ever make a switch? Anyone know?

I'm in reality TV heaven with TAR and Survivor Hero's vs. Villains both just getting under way. :thumbsup2

They were still in the USA, LA. I thought it was racist, and if they had been white and made that remark about the people in the car being white, "so let's ask them because they will help us", I have a feeling it would have been perceived as a racist comment then as well.

Seriously, trying to make my way through this thread, but has anyone commented on this...We just watched today on the internet because we FORGOT yesterday.

The father/daughter team who painted the inside of the house...Did they ever complete the challenge the right way? Why didn't they get a penalty? It never showed how they got their clue or anything. What happened?

We watched the Intenet so maybe we missed something.

my condolences. can't see why you all are rooting for her - I don't watch Big Brother, so this was my first impression of her. Blech. Double blech. Stupid and proud of it - waiting for her big strong man to swoop in and take care of her. I prefer to root for people, men and women, who are intelligent and self-sufficient.

I don't think anybody likes or would be proud of the fact that someone finds them stupid. At the end of the show Jordan said she prays everyday "that I don't mess up". Jordan has a learning disability. She is very upfront about it. While she lacks in "book smarts" she has lots of "people smarts" which helped her win BB. She is very childlike, genuine and transparent. She doesn't hide that she can't tell time or that she was in special ed. She is very courageous to put herself "out there". Go Team JJ!:cheer2:

Me too. :thumbsup2 Now if Big Brother was on right now I would never leave the TV or computer.:rotfl2:

I guess I'm the only one who thought the brothers making fun of the Teen USA was hilarious...she deserved it...she was a complete airhead at that competition, and she put herself back out there, in the public eye, so of course, CBS is going to use it.

Seems like it will be a good season...still don't understand what I posted before about the father/daughter team not getting a penalty.

My guess is they did find the right thing to paint and got the task done. They knew they had the wrong place when the guys didn't have a clue for them after painting. They just didn't have time to show it all .

If CBS had gone with the 2 hour premiere I wanted, they could have showed more details.

I'm sure they continued on, found their assigned spot, and completed the challenge; so I'm not sure why they should get a penalty. They had a self assessed penalty of spending extra time painting someone's house. :rotfl:

The cops painted over what looked like graffitti too, although I don't think they spent much time doing it.

If either team had used up so much paint that they were unable to complete the challenge, then I can see assessing a penalty. But it looked like all the teams were lugging serveral cans of paint, and with only a very small section of wall to paint, so I'm sure they had plenty to spare.

yeah, I can see how they must have completed it...but it would have been nice for them to throw us a hint about it!!!

It takes me a few weeks to figure out who I like. I know right away who I am not going to want to win. Once in a while I change my mind and one of those contestants begins to grow on me but usually the nasty ones just get nastier.

I am a reality show freak too! Hooked on Bravo, HGTV and Lifetime shows as well as Survivor
