~ The Amazing Race ~ Season 16 ~

Double agreed! :thumbsup2 DH and I both bugged out our eyes when granny said this was the grandchild she respectecd the most out of all of them! No grandparent should ever say that....nat'l tv or not.

Never watched Big Brother, but I am rooting for Jordan' team. Her boyfriend seems like a genuinely nice guy.

They weren't in trouble, they didn't check to see if the bus was there. That is their fault, not the cowboys.
Don't know why you're so hung up on my wording. The fact is, those teams were in a less than ideal situation and the cowboys laughed at them. In similar circumstances in other seasons, the team(s) in the better situation at least pretended to feel a little bad for the other team(s), even if they did not help them, rather than just sit there and laugh.

As I said, I do not think the cowboys were obligated to tell them about the bus, but nor do I think it was their fault in any way that the others missed the bus, but I do think laughing at them the way they were was nasty and very telling as to their character.

Respectfully, though, it seems you don't like the cowboys because they happened to find themselves in this situation, and not surprisingly happy about it - yet in past seasons other teams have deviously PUT themselves in similar situations and deliberately GLOATED over it.

Believe me, I thought much less of teams who deliberately put themselves in these situations than I do of the cowboys! ;)

The correlation I'm making is not to those teams.

I did not see the cowboys as laughing as in making fun of but in more of a happy they figured it out kind of way.
I really think they are my favorite team w/ the Caite team behind. I like the underdogs. ;)
I detest beauty contests but Caite put herself out there on natl tv - which is a heck of a lot more than most of us would have done and yes, there were consequences but I admire her ambition and I hope they do very well.

On a side note I have been getting a lot of mileage out of the fact that the 1st couple booted off actually were at the same audition as my very good friend and they picked that couple over them. :rotfl2: I have to say my friend and his son would have definitely gotten over that wire.

At the risk of, well, "points" - Caite's ONE error is NOTHING compared to (a nameless banned-topic's) four-plus years of REPEATED misspeaks from 1987 to 1992... and beyond...

There. That's not a violation, right? ;)

Huh? The only person I think this is referring to I don't think has anything to do with Amazing Race :confused3. I think it is over my head (which isn't all that difficult since I stopped growing in 9th grade).

Why did you go there? We all enjoy this thread and I do not want it closed.

No, it doesn't. Your head is FINE, Frank :teeth: My (I hope) discretion is in reference to the two banned topics on the DIS - religion and politics. Maybe I was TOO subtle? I was just referring to a very public figure who made REPEATED public gaffes, with much more education and at a much more advanced age and "work", and public speaking, experience, than any teenage pageant contestant.

I'm not sure who she is talking about, either.

But I kind of get the point.

Girl makes ONE mistake on national television as a TEENAGER and she is raked over the coals much more severely than some unmentionable figures (generally speaking) who get publicly forgiven and embraced despite any well publicized moment of idiocy.

And sure--she may sound like a brick involving soundbites from other pageant prep, but just b/c someone is like that--isn't really demonstrative of their overall intellect.

I have well formed opinions--but my articulation ability on certain topics just stinks. I just don't have the good memory recall in a high stress moment. You will never find me on any debate team and toastmasters scares the bejeezus out of me.

I teach children's ministry at church and I'm so afraid of that little elementary schoolers are going to think I'm an idiot even though I know what I am talking about--but fear it will come out wrong.

Public speaking/public platforms are just not everyone's forte and this former teen beauty queen is being cast forever as an idiot by grown adults who held a 17yo to a higher standard than the adults that perhpas Katieeldr is referring to.

Pretty sad when we get our jollies off of making fun of dumb teenagers to show us what smart adults we are. (general comment that is not an opinion of anyone posting here.)

Genuinely, I can't see the thread getting closed. The worst result I can see is my two previous posts getting deleted and me getting infraction points. If the WebMasters feel that's deserved, I would not argue with them.

Not even a "dumb" teenager - merely one who got flustered in ONE, granted very, public speaking situation.

I am joining in here. I have watched every Amazing Race and can not wait for the next one when it starts. I have not watched last Sundays show but do know who was eliminated.

You are right--i should have put "dumb" and "smart" in quotes to make the point.

I wasn't calling her dumb myself--but just how this all comes across when grown adults take such pleasure in poking fun.

Even here--there are grown adults posting and proving that she is indeed dumb as a brick--but the only citations are pageants and pageant prep.:confused3

That just isn't enough evidence.

*And I was in pageants and did say stupid things. I entered one pageant with a PREPARED speech about the American I most admired. I did my speech on Princess Diana.:rotfl:

Well, it was already long since submitted and rehearsed when I realized they wanted an AMERICAN and not just a PERSON. I was embarrassed and was upset that my mother hadn't noticed that we did that. I wanted to change it, but it was too late. I was only in 5th grade at the time. I'm sure folks in the audience thought it was a hoot that this dumb kid couldn't find one American to do her speech about.

Oh well. I'm sure if would have been even much more of a hoot if I was on national television and made allt he grown ups feel that much more superior over my mistake.

In the end, I went on to college and did pretty well academically and until now, it was my own little secret.

:goodvibes OP here, let's all play nice, ok!!! :goodvibes I don't want this thread to close either!!! :goodvibes

OKEY DOKEY, carry on.................:surfweb:

We ARE playing nice! Again, if there's ANY problem, it's MINE, and I'll be the one penalized. The thread itself won't be closed.

I totally LOLed when that guy fell on the floor with the butter. We rewinded that part so many times on the DVR.

OH my gravy (kidding) they give us infraction points? What is this y'all speak of? Closing the tread? You dis-ers are the only ones that enable my addictions!!!!
