The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

I don't care if Gretchn's voice is shrill ("OMG!") I gotta give her props for the tower climbing and repelling! Her legs must have been jelly when she was done!

I am rooting for J & U to take it all!

Rob and Amber (and Ray and Deanna) don't look like jerks so much now for helping out Gretchen and Meredith! Any advantage you get, you should run with it.....

Anyone who helps out Ron and Kelly are fools....

And yes, they did beg at pit stops for money in past races. I remember one team going to a hotel to hit up the tourists. So I think this may be a change in the rules.

I took the money issue for Ron and Kelly as meaning they will not be given any money at the start of the next leg. I didn't take it as not being able to ask for money.

they can ask for money, but not until the next leg starts. Phil was very clear and said they had to start the leg with no money, definitely a change from last season when they just took their money but they could start raising it right away. I figure the way things are going by next season they will have to give up the clothes on their backs, too, and race in their underwear.

Why does our opinions of Merideth and Gretchen upset you? Unless they are friends of yours or someone you know personally, they are a couple chosen to go on a TV show, and they were chosen because of their personality. Do you really think a sweet, timid, quiet old lady would of been picked over Gretchen and her over-reaction to everything? That being said, we the viewer's have every right to be annoyed with the producer's choice of personality. Just like we were all annoyed with Jonathan and his abuse and screaming last season, now we have Gretchen's voice to be annoyed with. I don't think people saying that Gretchen's voice is like finger nails on a chalkboard (which is IS) or how many times can she says OMG (btw, that phrase is offensive to some, it is taking the Lord's name in vain) has anything to do with how well they are doing in the race at the age they are. If she were 20 years old, and had the same grating voice, and over dramatic reactions to a dismal situation, we would be saying the same things.

I am not trying to start anything here, but when I read that our comments were upsetting to you, I had to reply to it, because I am dumbfounded that someone can get upset over our opinions of a "celebrity". In this situation, Gretchen is only known because she is on a national TV program, IMO that makes her a celebrity, if only for 15 minutes.

I am sorry that our annoyance at Gretchen is upsetting to you. But, she really does annoy the heck out of me, to a point where I can't stand it, so my remedy for that is to complain about it. Last night, I called my sister. As soon as she got on that ladder and started her moaning, I called my sister to grate my teeth and say how much I cannot stand her and her whining for another second. I whined to my sister WHY WHY WHY did Merideth allow her to do this task? And I was frozen with fear when I thought about how hard it was for Uchenna to figure out where the key was, and memories of the box hunting came flooding back. I thought for sure we were going to be giving another opportunity to hear Gretchen moan and whine about how terrible this was, and where is that darn key.(and she would not of been able to go to Merideth for a 'hug') By the Grace of God, we were spared that, but I was afraid all the same.

Yes it is great that they are, and I am not even going to say 20, they are at least 30 years older than the other teams. But, in lieu of that, they (or I should say Gretchen) is annoying as hell, and we are not afraid to say so! ;)

I'm not sure this is true--Gretchen & Meredith asked for money at the pit stop (I thought) b/c they would have gotten NOWHERE without money.

Obvisouly Ron & Kelly find some money since they were at the bus challenged with everyone else.

I can't believe Gretchen climbed that ladder. She was only 1/3 of the way up and she said she couldn't do it. The show broke away from commercial and the next time they showed her was repelling down. From what I understand she and meredith were 2 hours in front of R/A and the other team. I bet it took her almost the 2 hours to climb that tower. Or, did I fall asleep and miss them showing her climbing the rest of the tower and getting the key.

I like Meredith but I can't take Gretchen. It's bad enough she whines but now she's getting really catty too. Oy.

I like Uchenna a lot but Joyce is "eh" to me. I think it was brave she shaved her head and all but she just kinda annoys me with her quiet little comments on who's "worthy" to win.

Ron & Kelly- Don't like either of them really, although I'm starting to feel bad for Ron.

Amber and Rob are the only team where I like both people, I want them to win. Go Romber!:teeth:

As far as Kelly is concerned with her comment to Ron last night - I don't care if she was upset that Ron said he wasn't ready for a commitment, that comment she made was rude, callous and harsh and showed a lot about her personality. That's like telling someone that they got out of working because they had cancer or they got out of being a parent because their child died. She may be a beauty queen  on the outside but she is far from beautiful on the inside.

I totally agree! I think she should publicly apoligize to the troops for that comment.

She seemed to pick up speed as she got higher, which makes sense since the ladder would be more stable at the top. They did show her making it to the top and then climbing the stairs and getting the key.

Thanks, I totally missed that part. I bet though they got done just as R/A came. That is probably why Rob thinks he can get back to first place thinking G/M are only in front of him and not realizing Uchena and Joyce are at least 2 hours ahead. I like R/A, but I want Uchena and Joyce to win.

I loved last night's episode! I am really glad Ron and Kelly aren't out of it yet. Though I dislike Kelly, I really like Ron and would love to see him go all the way in this race. :teeth:

I'm still neutral on Uchenna and Joyce. I think they're a great couple but they haven't really made any other impressions on me either way.

Rob and Amber amuse me, but I hope they don't win. Rob's getting a little too cocky for his own good (though he did the same thing in Survivor, too)

Gretchen and Meredith: I'm sorry, but they do not deserve to still be in this game. Yeah, yeah, they're old and they've done more at that age than I think a lot of people would, but they're not running a very good race. Half the time, it seems like Gretchen is wandering around aimlessly, totally confused, and Meredith just kind of follows her. They've made a lot of dumb mistakes and, if it weren't for getting help from the other teams, they would have been out long ago.

Not to mention Gretchen's voice.

I don't believe he said G/M needed to start the leg with no money, just that they wouldn't be given money. He definitely said that to R/K.

I wonder if, during the pit stop, they could ask tourists for money, but have them give it to the hotel desk to hold. That way they can start the leg with no money, run back to the hotel get the money that they already asked for without having to start begging then. I wonder if they'll do something like this. :scratchin

I noticed that also last night.

Who wants to bet that Rob and Amber do not give these two anything at the start of the race?

why on earth would they? they are down to the final 4...to give someone money would definitely be nuts. This is a race, not just an adventure.

Why would they, and I think Ron and Kelly will respect that.

Also, Ron and Kelly will be at the Four Seasons for their rest period. While this sounds really nice, it gives them no chance to talk to the other teams. Also, it would be a much better place to beg cash than with the other teams, who can't have all that much to begin with. That may have something to do with the wording Phil used--they could really clean up in cash at a nice hotel like that. I'm assuming they get a ride to and from the nice hotel, so they start out from the mat at the right time? They may not be able to go back to the hotel for $ without losing a good chunk of time. Besides, no $ = no cab fare.

I hope Uchenna and Joyce can maintain a lead, but odds are good there will be another "catch up" at an airport. I couldn't believe there was only a 12 minute spread last time. Do you think they'll be going to England (those double decker buses)? Is next week the 2 hour finale? Someone get me a Valium!

And can you believe how close they all arrived on the last leg. Joyce shaved her head for a "2" minute lead. Yikes :scared1:

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet, so maybe this has been said, BUT...

She didn't shave her head for a 2 minute lead, she shaved her head to avoid elimination! Had she not gone through with it, they'd have had to go back and do all the tasks, well behind the other teams. They most certainly would have been last to check in and, since that was an elimination round, they'd have been out of the race instead of the boyfriends.

So while yes, they only ended up with a 2 minute lead, the real result was they didn't get eliminated. In any case, almost every leg has some kind of equalizer (an airport, opening time for a location, etc) that catches everyone up anyway, so having a lead at the end of a leg is not a huge factor in most legs of the race.

My memory may be failing me (can't remember if it was Uchenna or Ron), but when Gretchen and Meredith were begging for money and Rob didn't give them any, the other (Ron I think) said something like "well when we get further along, we'll see if we can give them anything". So, I think he will respect Rob/Amber if they don't give them any.

It was Ray of Ray/Deanna who said that.

I can't believe that anyone, at this point in the race, would get upset if the other teams didn't help them out.
