The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

I did LOL at the girl helping Amber in the market. I do agree that there is no way Amber would have made it out of there without help. I think Rob realized that, too.

That is a ridiculous assumption. Someone offered to help her, and she accepted the help. I will make the assumption that any of the other players would have accepted help if it had been offered to them as well. I can't really see any of the other shoppers saying "No thanks, I'll just mill about here on my own, I am not interested in finishing this challenge more quickly."

We have no idea how well Amber would do completely on her own, since she wasn't in the position of having to be on her own very long. I think she is a very capable player, and contributes significantly to the team's overall strategy. Through the magic of editing we are not privy to all of their conversations.

It came across as a joke to me, and at least a few others on this board. Some folks are taking this waaaay to seriously.

;) I was kidding about Amber watching her back (thus the ;) smilie) but do think that only conniving individuals would even consider thinking someone else would hurt their spouse for sympathy. As for taking this waaaay to seriously - please... we're just behaving like Rob :)

I don't think the racers carry the cold weather clothing with them. I believe it is held for them and given out when they need it. Look at the backpacks past racers have carried....no way a big hooded down jacket, gloves, mittens would even fit in the backpacks and then they arrive somewhere cold and they're all beautifully fully outfitted.....I think that stuff is either given to them for free or every single team, ever, has gone out and bought matching winter wear and somehow magically fit it in their backpacks....Nope, I don't think they carry that stuff, just their day to day stuff.

Now that I think about it, you're probably right about them being supplied the heavier coats. If that's the case, losing their backpacks might be a good thing for them, it won't be weighing them down :flower:

I loved last night's double episode!!! I'm soooo glad Ray and Deena are gone which just leaves the obnoxious boyfriends then all my least favorites are gone!

DITTO!!!!!!!!

I recorded this and am going back to watch it again I think that Gretchen got more than one stitch it seems like I heard 4 or 5 but will check.

Also going to check the car crash again to see what really happened.

I'm the one that said one stitch--so if you find out otherwise, then I stand corrected. When she asked about stitches, I could have sworn the medic said she'd only need 1. Don't know if she spoke about it later.

I've only had stitches once in my life--it was when I was a kid and it was on the bottom of my foot. I was so heebie jeebied by it, I didn't ask and I didn't count them myself. So I have no idea by looking at a wound what stitch count would be. My foot is tingling now thinking about it (and it happened over 20 years ago!!!).

I thought he said one stitch too. I loved it when she said she had been wanting a face lift!
And here's a gross thought. My sister and I laughed that what would the younger girls had done if all of their possessions taken and it was that time of the month! One pair of underwear, no personal hygiene products! EEEEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!

wvrey -Rob and Amber - If you're playing a game of Monopoly with someone, do you cut them a break if they can't pay the rent on Park Place ? Repeat these three words, people: IT'S A GAME !!!!!

That is a game, someone injured on the side of the road is not.
Your playing monopoly, someone gets sick, when they come back do you say sorry you missed several turns your now out of the game.

It's a game, but there are times when who you are as a person come through, and Rob repeatedly does not show a very morally nice personage. Phill talking only to this team about the accident, shows their moral lacking.

At this point I'm cheering for whoever can beat Rob/Amber

I have no problem with them, or anyone else, accepting help and I doubt any other team would have refused it. The difference is that no other team is going to be internationally recognized from their two appearances on one of the most popular reality shows on the planet. The question to ask is, would Romber even be offered the help if they weren't celebrities? I'm wondering if the producers will make changes in future shows if it is perceived that Romber received more help than other contestants due to who they are... maybe something like "You may ask directions, but not use locals as guides, or to help you shop".

The way the loser of the non elim leg is treated now is probably because it previously hasn't been much of a hinderance to have all your money taken. I noticed that they now have to begin the next leg with no money. That's probably because previous teams would begin begging as soon as they stepped off the mat, and have plenty of money by the time the next leg started.

I see your point--but Romber isn't the first team to have solicited/received help--the way you make the comments is like...wow they got help and it isn't fair and should be done away with. This all started back in the 1st or 2nd series with teams asking for help and following taxi's and get a local tour guide etc. I agree that it is not fair to do this....but your phrasing suggest that Romber is being sneaky about it in obtaining an unfair advantage when that unfair advantage is avaible to everybody and thus not really unfair at all. Some people have gotten help for just being nice and this week's episode was the first where we saw them "recognized".

I think they also got help the very first episode getting off of the plane in South America someone recognized them.

I missed that--was working on a WPASADI challenge in during those first few episodes so wasn't entirely paying attention to the show.

I stand corrected :wave2: .

Yes, they did receive help before from someone who recognized them. I'm thinking twice, but I can only remember once. I believe it was on the very first leg of the trip. When all the other teams are just learning how to play the game and figuring things out R&A had all the work done for them. It didn't matter if they were exhausted or didn't know where they were going, someone else did it all for them.

And it is different from asking someone for help. These people just walked up and helped them. The other teams had to search someone out who could speak English and was willing to help strangers.

I am a rob & amber fan but I so wish they had stopped!

Also I think that the recognition factor of R&A may also work to slow them down. I remember at the rest stop when they went in for directions - didn't they end up spending 20minutes or more talking with the folks and giving autographs before they finally got a map and directions?

IMHO R&A have been gracious and kind to the people they meet. They seem to always know their names and a bit about them, maybe that is also part of the reason they seem to get more help??

Just a thought - that at some point the fame may slow them down as well as give them an advantage.

I don't think the producers cross the line with that one, even in Survivor they are given hygiene products for women

Phil said "nothing but your passports and the clothes on your back"--since they can beg for money and eventually get some (or ask another female teammate for some)--I think they didn't get anything. On survivor--no money and no store. Kind of a different situation.

And considering the age of Gretchen--I don't think she has to worry about that problem. :rolleyes1

I'm nearly 100% sure that the teams are supplied with cold-weather gear. Watch the cold-weather episodes...they'll all be wearing very similar stuff. I'm thinking of the episode in AR4 (I think it was) where 1 team member had to go through a hole in the ice and swim to the other hole. All of the AR people had nearly identical winter gear on. I think that the show does supply it to them so they don't have to carry it.

One of the extra videos on cbs.com is Gretchen & Meredith talking w/ Lynn & Alex about losing everything. Gretchen said something about her only being left w/ tampons, which she doesn't need anymore. Either Lynn or Alex (don't know who is who) suggested she sell them

Did anybody else hear Rob saying something very compassionate in his vehicle as the passed the accident? He said something along the lines of "oh how terrible, they're our competition and all but I don't want to see anybody get hurt, that's no fun for anybody". This may not be an exact quote but its the gist of what he said.
QUOTE]

I rewatched my video and yes Rob does make a statement like that.

No matter what anyone thinks of Rob and Amber being on this show, the rates have increased and all the message boards are filled with comments from people who either love or hate Romber. This is a show that was going to be cancelled until they won 2 Emmys and now it is water cooler discussions after each episode.

As people are being eliminated you are beginning to see more of the other teams and getting to know them better. Lynn and Alex have had alot of coverage from the beginning because of their hatred of Romber. There are always teams each year that cause alot of emotions to flow this year it happens to be Rob and Amber. It just makes for great TV. If it wasn't you wouldn't be watching.

I'm kinda torn about Rob and Amber not stopping. The logical, rational part of me says that why stop? They're not doctors, there was nothing they could do to help, Lynn and Alex were already standing there picking their noses (because they had nothing to do but flutter around and look anxious), and there were obviously more people than just the brothers on the scene. The other part of me says that it would have shown consideration of the larger humanity of the scene if they had at least stopped, made SURE there was nothing they could do, and then went on their way.

The other question that flits through my head is would any of the teams have stopped if it was a strange truck with a bunch of locals in it that had had an accident?

Ah, was so relieved to see the 'on and off' couple Ray and Miss Take It Up The Tailpipe eliminated because I was having to explain to my two young daughters that it was bad the way he was treating her and that's not the way grownups are supposed to be to each other when they love each other.

The girls' favorite team was the two friends-one blonde and one redhead who ate the beef. They were like, stop and ask for directions! And they're 4 and 6!

Didn't like the feeding the lions part; that's a dismemberment waiting to happen...

And scalp wounds bleed like crazy, so the one stitch could be reasonable. I'm more worried about them breathing powdered bat guano and what entered her bloodstream with the cut.

I wonder if Meredith and his wife were on meds do they still get to use them or were they stripped. No, no Lipitor for you until the end of the race! What about contact lenses? Deodorant? The mind and nose reels...
