The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

I'll say this, the ONLY reason my friends and I are watching this show is because Rob and Amber are so entertaining.

If they lose, I'm sure we'll stop watching! :teeth:

Doesn't anyone see the irony here? Most of you are saying what great players Rob & Amber are and how dumb the other players are for falling for Rob's schemes and following him (ie taking the penalty). He's snowing all the other teams, but don't you see him as snowing the audience, his "fans" (that means all of you), as well. Look at the amount of air time they're getting. Look at the comments that Phil makes when they arrive at the pitstop. This whole season is edited in their favor.

I hardly think he's a "genius" for getting other people to quit the challenge. If he hadn't said anything to them, it would have been a matter a minutes before they realized and chose for themselves to quit. Yet, all the editing makes it out so that Rob is this big uber-genius, the "best player ever", manipulating the other contestants to his benefit. Once their wedding is aired on TV, perhaps they can finally retire from their career of "media *****s".

I don't remember any other team ever quiting a challange before. I know there have been time penalties if it was completed wrong. I thought that was pretty smart of him, I didn't even know what happens if a team quits a challange.

I really didn't like him on Survivor, but I think him and Amber are playing a great game. They really seem to get along well and I think she is pulling her weight. Just reading the maps, something I would be horrible at.

My DH is watching AR this season just because of Rob & Amber.

I am still trying to zero in on my favorite team from this bunch. I think I starting to pull more for Uchenna (sp?) and Joyce. I like the way they tackle challenges. Maybe it's and easy comparison to make because all are African-Americans, but they remind me of my favorite "racers" Chip and Kim from acouple seasons back. U & J seem to have a similar good rapport going on, and U (like Chip was) seems to really just dive right in and take on those challenges.

Also am pulling for the beauty queen and the former POW (name escapes me :confused3 . I always like the "southern" teams. :goodvibes

I love how Amber said (after rafting) that was a good work out after all I need to fit into a wedding dress soon. I'd love to see their wedding. They never fight - what a breath of fresh air. I can't stand the dating couple and the mother/son- too much whining and fighting.

GO ROB & AMBER

I read somewhere that they're shopping the networks for a TV wedding. Not that they couldn't afford to pay for it themselves  ...and who knows, they might be adding another million to they're bank account (though I hope Amber does have the first million in her own account and makes him sign a pre-nup.)

I really don't think the other two teams would have thought to "quit" and take the penalty right away. Granted, Rob "encouraged" them to do it, but I just don't think they would've thought of it on their own.

Me too!

Didn't like Rob and Amber on either of their Survivors, and wish they weren't on my Fav reality show either. I understand they will bring in new AR fans and boost the ratings, but I really feel I'm watching the "let's see who can beat Rob and Amber show" or "what will Rob do this week" show.

Last night I found myself thinking, as much as I enjoy watching AR, I cannot wait until this season is over. I'll say it again - they've had their 15 minutes. To me, a loyal fan of AR, they are too much of a distraction as to why I liked the show in the first place. Case in point the eating challenge. Brilliant strategy on Rob's part, but I don't think it should be that easy to exit from a challenge. They should have waited 4 hours after the very last couple came. That to me would be a penalty.

As far as the boyfriends carrying on about Rob and Amber - I think it is the editing. Again, it's all about Rob and Amber, so let's make a team look bad by showing their comments all the time. I bet the others say just as much, but it's not shown. I think Phil is even treating Rob and Amber differently. Look at his reactions each time they make it to the pit stop.

If they still want to be on TV, they should start their own "Jessica Simpson and husband (can't remember his name)" show and those who want to watch them every week can do so.

Sorry for the vent, I but love AR the way it used to be.......getting to know the contestants as we go along.

I was about to post this EXACT thing. THANK you! I'm (hoping) betting they change the rules next season. If you quit, you shouldn't get ahead by doing it. In fact, I've already ranted about it in my blog.

I don't understand why you don't understand that we think that Rob is a big jerk.

While I can admire his gamesmanship, I cannot get past the big jerk part and I will never root for him. You can do what you like, but you won't change my mind.
I understand. Sometimes I love Romber, sometimes I hate them.

Rob is totally NOT someone I would trust IRL but I love to watch the way he plays the game. Putting my feelings for him aside, he should have won the million on Survivor and not Amber. No one has ever played Survivor better than him, and no one (so far) as played TAR as well as him. I see how you can appreciate the way he plays the game without liking him personally.

I agree how can you not like Rob. He's funny, smart and a little coniving but come on people it's a GAME. He knows how to play. I must admit this is my first time watching AR and it was soley because of Rob & Amber. They make great TV.

I love how Amber said (after rafting) that was a good work out after all I need to fit into a wedding dress soon. I'd love to see their wedding. They never fight - what a breath of fresh air. I can't stand the dating couple and the mother/son- too much whining and fighting.

I agree 100%! It is a GAME and it is for entertainment. I will watch Rob steal someone's cab 100 times over before I will watch another Amazing Race with the likes of Jonathan.

Rob and Amber have been in Hollywood for awhile now. They are no longer "regular" Joes. So, how they are on the Race is, I am sure, an act. They are acting the part that made them who they are.

I love Amazing Race, I have watched it from the beginning. Everyone is saying Rob knows the game, when he didn't want to eat the meat, he asked Amber what would happen and she knew their was a penality.

I have never seen a race where a team deliberately did not do something and take the penality. I have seen teams make a mistake, and when they get to the finish line, they are told of a penality. So, it was very interesting how they found out about the penality. Maybe it was always written in the challenge and no one every opted for a penality before. Who knows?

Lat season when they were doing the key roadblock one of the contestants(I forget who) didnt finish the challenge and had a 3 hour penalty. I guess the producers felt 3 hours was too little so they upped it to 4.

Arlene

Last season Hayden and Aaron did choose to take the penalty on the final roadblock hoping that Rebecca wouldn't find the right key to open the lock.

I so agree that I would rather have someone like Rob playing the game instead of couple screaming and being verbally abusive to each other.

Also, I have read that many of these people have agents and that is how they get on the AR. Thus in the past why there have been models, PT actors. I know last year the wrestlers said it was their agent who suggested to them to be on AR.

Honestly, if I choose to apply for the Amazing Race or Big Brother, or any reality TV show for that matter, I would get an agent. The agent can then help me produce my audition tape, and then, they know all the nooks and crannies to make sure the tape gets seen. They get paid a percentage of what yuou make once you're on the show, so they will do what ever is possible to get me on. You almost have to go that route now, because it doesn't seem like the regular "joes" have a chance.

What a great move last night! I enjoy how they THINK and play the game!
They deserve to win!!

Coming to different conclusions given the same information - makes the world go round! :flower: I completely respect your opinion.

Thanks :). And I respect the opinions of those who admire Rob and Amber.

can anyone think of any others?

I actually wrote a whole blog entry on my rules for Amazing Race contestants. I can't believe more of them don't prepare better - or maybe in the heat of the moment it all goes out the window. Anyway, my rules are here: http://www.tivogirl.com/archives/2005_03.html#000113

As mentioned a few posts up, it is refreshing to see a whole group of contestants that aren't aspiring actors/models as in most of the past editions of the race.

I also don't believe that Rob and Amber are getting much more screen time than any of the other contestants. And even if they are, it is probably because they are more interesting to watch. I have to give the producers credit, because they have always seemed to give all the teams relatively equal airtime. It just seems like Rob and Amber get so much more because they do more "risque" things and are more memorable.

Regardless of how much airtime a team gets, or what their back ground is in life" all that matters is who gets to the pit stop first. Rob and Amber don't have anymore of an advantage than any of the other teams.

Do you blame the producers for putting them on? I don't. Ratings are up this season because of them! This show has always been on the cusp of getting canned because of ratings (only its emmy wins have saved it) so anything to keep it on the air longer is fine by me. I truly feel that the integrity of the race at all has not been hurt by Rob and Amber. I don't think I want them to win, but so far none of the other teams have stood out enough to deserve it.

I also saw where the older couple said they had no money, but like another poster said, he must have been kidding. If they were in fact given no money, an explanation would have had to been made.
Also, I don't believe that a trip is given on every leg of the race. I remember specifically on the other races there are legs where no prize is awarded. Of course, this is the first year cash was given, which I think is great. I'd like to see more of that, it gives them more incentive for first place.
I also agree with others where they really should learn simple catch phrases in different languages. To me that's one of the easiest things to do to prepare to be on that race. There are so many things that you can't prepare for, like eating 4 pounds of meat

Just had to laugh when remembering Amber's comment after the rafting episode....."I got some exercise, that's good...have to fit in a wedding dress soon." Yeah, like she's gonna have any problem. :rotfl:

Come on! You don't want them to have to alter her size 1 to a size 3 now, do you?
