The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

Tuned in last night for the first time this season. The main reason I watched was because of Rob and Amber. They are entertaining to watch and are very good at playing the game. Good for them!!

I don't understand why Lynn and Alex want to beat Rob and Amber so bad. Isn't the point to beat all the teams? I think they are a wee bit scared of how smart Rob and Amber are at the game.

I'm rooting for them or the old couple.

Last season Hayden and Aaron did choose to take the penalty on the final roadblock hoping that Rebecca wouldn't find the right key to open the lock.

I so agree that I would rather have someone like Rob playing the game instead of couple screaming and being verbally abusive to each other.
The difference between the Hayden thing and last night is that she was hoping Rebecca wouldn't be able to finish the task either. She just gave up, and that was her only hope. But last night is the first time that quitting could be considered good strategy. Every other time someone has failed to complete a task, it's meant elimination. That's as it should be. I remember in season #1, the mother-daughter team skipped the last task in India. They were exhausted and just couldn't do it. So they were assessed a 24 HOUR penalty, and that was the end of them.

They've gotta have rules that govern what happens if someone can't finish. But the penalty should be pretty severe. IMHO, there's no way a time that didn't complete all of the tasks should be ahead of a team that did. Period.

I don't blame Rob (or Deanna or Meredith) for using the rules to their advantage. I blame whoever designed the leg and whoever made the penalty rule. Think about it: was it better TV for three teams to sit around watching the rest carry out their appointed task? Or was it better TV when Lena or Kristy worked her fingers raw searching through those hay bales in Norway last season? I guess that she should have just said "this looks tough, let's skip it."

And saying Rob isn't as bad as Jonathon isn't setting the bar very high, is it?

I'd love to see their wedding.

I'm pretty sure I heard that they already have a tv deal in the works for there wedding in the fall...maybe sweeps week????

Does anyone know how much they're getting paid for it?

I didn't hear him say anything either. I thought that a prize was given all the time when you came in first. Maybe I am wrong?

Considering the prizes are commercials for whomever gifted it to AR.....No they didn't forget and no they don't give one every time. It is all random. They aren't the first nor the last team to come in first and not get a prize.

Last night I found myself thinking, as much as I enjoy watching AR, I cannot wait until this season is over. I'll say it again - they've had their 15 minutes. To me, a loyal fan of AR, they are too much of a distraction as to why I liked the show in the first place. Case in point the eating challenge. Brilliant strategy on Rob's part, but I don't think it should be that easy to exit from a challenge. They should have waited 4 hours after the very last couple came. That to me would be a penalty.

This not completing a task and taking a penalty is not a new thing. In Season 1--the mother and daughter skipped a task and took a penalty giving Team Guido the in for the final 3.

Last season....the gazillion locks challenge---if you didn't get it done, there was a penalty.

I think there are so many rules built into the show to handle every single what if scenario that comes up.

This is the first challenge where it was an option while still at the road block. The other penalties happened once they got to the mat and not when the next team or last team did whatever.

I don't care how good of a game he is playing. I don't like him and I think he's a jerk.

Yes. I have watched the show since 2001 and they had to edit out the Twin Towers in NYC because the race ended at the Statue of Liberty before 9/11/01.

What does that have to do with the way I feel about Rob and Amber?

PS everyone ... sorry for yelling. It seems that the Romber Fan Club  just doesn't get it.

I don't think it ended at the Statue of Liberty....of course I don't know my NYC geography. I seriously doubt a reality show would edit out scenery b/c it is no longer there no matter how tragic. But it is possible--this is all I could find.

Nervous, anxious, they waited as the train made its way through Queens. Finally, they spotted the famous World's Fair globe monument at Flushing Meadows in the distance. The train arrived at the station and Rob & Brennan rushed through the train terminal in search of the finish line. ( Rob & Brennan search for Flushing Meadows Park)

Rob & Brennan raced outside, spotted a flag, and ran down toward the finish line. The lawyers sprinted down the tree-lined park to the Globe. There, cheering wildly, were the previously eliminated Teams and host Phil Keoghan. Rob & Brennan raced through the gauntlet of their former competitors and stepped on the mat first.

And here is the commentary on how they treated the episodes:
http://www.hasbrouck.org/blog/archives/000509.html
Questions were raised, inevitably, about whether CBS-TV should have gone through with the broadcast, or should have cancelled, postponed, or changed it. Similar questions were undoubtedly raised in the first season of "The Amazing Race" about how to deal with the broadcast of the finish of the race in New York City, which had been filmed (including shots of the World Trade Center towers) just a few weeks before the destruction of the towers on 11 September 2001.

In both cases, CBS proceeded with the broadcasts, essentially without alteration, just as most travellers are proceeding with their itineraries, even to countries affected by the tsunami, largely without alteration.

Doesn't anyone see the irony here? Most of you are saying what great players Rob & Amber are and how dumb the other players are for falling for Rob's schemes and following him (ie taking the penalty). He's snowing all the other teams, but don't you see him as snowing the audience, his "fans" (that means all of you), as well... Once their wedding is aired on TV, perhaps they can finally retire from their career of "media *****s".

I think his fans DO GET IT! He's an average guy just working it! He's taking advantage of life's opportunities and pushing his 15 minutes of fame to the max. What's wrong with that? How does living the american dream make him a jerk?

You know what? Why don't all of you that do not like Rob and Amber, and feel they are a "distraction" to the show, why don't you just stop watching?

They are on the show, they are in the race, and by all accounts, it looks like they will be in the race for quite a few more weeks, if not all the way to the end. There is NOTHING you can do about it. Coming here week after week to scream how they shouldn't be able to do that, and the rules should be different, and no fair, they were already on a reality show. blah, blah, blah. My favorite is all of you who say "Rob and Amber have had there 15 minutes of fame" Well guess what? Just by watching the show, YOU are giving them more of their 15 minutes.

Coming here to ask how those of us that are rooting them can like them is not going to change the fact that they are on the show. So, I suggest you sit back and enjoy the entertianment value of the situation, or just stop watching.

I don't know what else to say. Week after week it is, "Oh, I can't stand the fact that they are on the show. It is so unfair." "How can you even like those two?"

I am liking Rob and Amber more and more each week. Unless something happens to change my opinion, they are my favorites to win.

I know some are arguing that they have already won a million dollars. Big deal! :confused3 I would rather these 'regular Joes' get a million dollars for an entire season of Amazing Race, than hear about another actor/actress getting millions for one movie, or an athlete getting signed for millions to play a game, or Donald Trump declaring bancruptcy, or Martha Stewart earning millions while in the slammer....

If Romber can become professionals at being on reality shows, good for them! They found something they enjoy and figured out how to make a living out of it. I always reserve the right to turn them off or change the channel. JMO

Are you serious? Because you don't like what someone is saying they shouldn't watch a show they enjoy (or at least post about it here)?
I don't recall anyone telling other posters to stop watching the last season because they didn't like Victoria and Jon or Freddy and Kendra.

ETA: I can't believe people are getting so worked up over contestants on a TV show.

I have watched every episode of every AR - I have never watched any episode of Survivor. I think that Rob & Amber are good for AR. I love the way he looks into the camera and divulges his little "strategies"! It was brilliant on his part to go ahead and accept the penalty and convince others to do the same, AFTER he did it! And brilliant on CBS's part to draw in Survivor fans who may not have been AR fans - a whole new batch of viewers!

Rob makes me smile.... He is having a great time and I enjoy watching it. Yes he is a jerk... but he is a happy go lucky jerk. Not a spiteful mean jerk. Makes for good TV.

He's snowing all the other teams, but don't you see him as snowing the audience, his "fans" (that means all of you), as well. Look at the amount of air time they're getting. Look at the comments that Phil makes when they arrive at the pitstop. This whole season is edited in their favor.

I hardly think he's a "genius" for getting other people to quit the challenge. If he hadn't said anything to them, it would have been a matter a minutes before they realized and chose for themselves to quit. Yet, all the editing makes it out so that Rob is this big uber-genius, the "best player ever", manipulating the other contestants to his benefit. Once their wedding is aired on TV, perhaps they can finally retire from their career of "media *****s".

I agree.

We have 26 pages of this thread........and most of it about Rob and Amber! Once again, AR7 - The Rob and Amber show.
Now if they turn into a Jonathan and Victoria couple, that I'd like to see!
Come on Rob - do something out of "character" You too Amber, because just like Survivor, you're flying under the radar.

I'm done talking about Romber.........

New topic - Do you think Brian and Greg are really strong contenders, or are they as dumb as they appear to be? Discuss... :teeth:

My, that's a pretty snotty attitude. So, if I don't like the team you like I should just stop watching?

Coming here to ask how those of us that are rooting them can like them is not going to change the fact that they are on the show.
:confused3 I never did that. I have never questioned why people like Rob and Amber and I have never criticized people who like Rob and Amber. I have (quite strongly sometimes) voiced my opinion that I don't like Rob and Amber. It is we, the anti-Rombers, who have been harassed with various get-a-grip comments such as your own "It's Just a Game" from a previous post and "You must not have watched Amazing Race Before :snooty:" from others. As a matter of fact, I have watched the game before (although my memory is like a sieve, as Lisa Loves Pooh pointed out ;)) and I know it's just a game. In fact, it's a game I really like. I'll like it better when Rob and Amber are eliminated! Of course, I said that about Survivor too and you see where that got me :rotfl:.

So, I suggest you sit back and enjoy the entertianment value of the situation, or just stop watching.
Or at least shut up about it, eh?

Why don't you take a page out of your own book? If you don't like to hear people talk trash about Rob and Amber then don't read this thread. Better yet, why don't we all let everyone voice their opinion on a group of people who really know nothing about and try not to take it personally :rolleyes1.

Not to mention that he is REALLY nice to look at.

I actually think he's a good guy. Have you seen him snap at Amber even once? I think they really seem to love each other and if they can make it through TAR treating each other with dignity and respect I think their marriage has a really good chance of lasting.

I also love the way they're playing the game. They are looking at it from all angles and really strategizing instead of making a mad dash for the next clue.

I'm just glad there's not another Jonathat/Colin/Ian so far this season. I thought it would be Ray, but so far, he's not that bad.

That's great! I love it!!!

The anti-Rombers are more than welcome to express their opinions here! Hey, let's just have fun with it, no matter which team you support!

well, i agree that i am watching AR religiously now because of rob and amber...they are my favorites to win but i am keeping an open mind..

i definitely agree that the beauty queen and the POW do not look like the happy couple...he says derogatory things to her all the time, even when they are not under tight pressure...she is definitely more into him than he is to her...now that you said he has been divorced and has a 1 yr old it makes sense he wants to take his time this marriage. Having a baby right off may have been the downfall to his previous marriage. And does any one else see that he is a CONTROL FREAK...

Lynn and Alex crack me up, esp last week when he called the people that sold him the fish B******. I am waiting to hear an outcry that they did not win the prize because they are gay...people will complain soon, i promise...people complain about anything...

i was glad to see the girls go...they should never have been that lost since they speak spanish...they got on my nerves too though...if they said I love you or that other mushy stuff one more time tuesday night the contestants would not have been the only ones puking :rotfl:

i do hope they fly somewhere different this week...

I agree Txaggie. . . It made me wonder if they were more than "friends". I have a best friend for almost 20 years now, yes, we tell each other "I love you" and give a kiss from time to time, but we do not say I love you every 10 seconds and hang all over each other.
