It did seem suspect--but they do have their photos in their passport. I cannot speak to their pictures, but my passport photo is a much more realistic version of me than my driver's license mug shot. And they did figure out it had to be AR and if I am not mistaken...for the last several seasons, the key ticket counters would be marked with a flag. I don't recall if they were last night. So hunt down camera crews--and look for girls who look like the passport photo. Voila!

But yes--it did seem oddly convenient.

I don't think anyone invloved with the show can interfere in any way. The guy said he tweeted and one of his follower's knew how the show works and told him to find a way to get to the airport and try to return her passport.

The timing of that whole incident is waaaay off. I think it showed a little backround into editing.

I rewatched it, because DH missed the 1st half hour, so I watched it again with him. They show the snowboarders asking the men directions while the girls were still searching the umbrellas. Wouldn't the men be long gone by the time the girls reached the same gas station?

How could he find a lost passport of somoene who hadn't even been at the gas station before he was?

Not sure of the actual timing of when the stoner snowboard dudes got there and then the showgirls. Even though the dudes finished that umbrella task first and the girls last, the dudes may have gotten lost before deciding to ask for directions.

I saw the good samaritans' tweets on the show, and saw an explanation posted today on the NYTimes website. The passport deal still seems somewhat fishy. I'm not convinced the guy took it upon himself to start searching on facebook or use twitter. The girls and their camera crew left, and there was a shot of the passport laying on the ground. Some other production/camera people were there (getting a signed release from the guy for when he talked to the snowboarders, perhaps), and no doubt the guy saw the passport being filmed laying there. Why did he just decide to take it? Did he wait a bit to see if the girls would come back? Why not turn it in to the cashier inside, or at least tell the cashier he had it and leave his cell phone number?

I don't think any production person flat out told him to go to the Eva counter at LAX. But I do think someone "accidently" dropped a hint on how to get the ball rolling.

If production cannot interfere in any way, why not just confiscate the passport and have the showgirls eliminated at LAX? Is knowingly allowing (or looking the other way) while a third party interferes any better?

I completely agree. Someone giving info on the elimination order or what happens on a future show is a spoiler. Watching and talking about the show in real time is not. I post on several reality tv threads and if I haven't had a chance to see the show yet then I don't go to those threads. Seems simple enough.

Yeah, but there's a handful of West Coasters who object when the show is over in the East and people start posting. They say they sometimes "accidently" see what happened before Pacific time and think no one should post until the show is over in the West.

That is what I get for half paying attention. I think they recognized them when they approached though, unless they were asking every female if that was her name.

The show doesn't have a rule in place if a contestant loses an item that would require crew to confiscate it. That would remove any opportunity for a team to try and look for it. If the reason the girls couldnt find it because the crew took it and there was no rule in place for that, then that would have been unfair to the girls. The opposite is true--if the crew said "hey, you dropped your passport"...that would have provided an unfair advantage to them as each team is responsible for the security of their belongings.
Personally I cringe that they trust all their documents in those fanny packs. With my luck, a dropped passport would be a very easy thing to happen.

On other seasons passports have been lost. I think it was a mother son one time lost it in taxi. Camera people do not pick it up but did show it too us on camera. This was at near the end too and they were not there at the finale because they had to wait for new passports.

The pair was eliminated because they went to the pit stop without there documents. It is in the rules they must have it. Some one must have told Phil they didn't have it ahead of time because I don't see them asking them to show there passports when they get there.

I agree that talking about it the night of is not spoilers. People don't have to open the thread that night until they have watched. Can't wait for everyone to watch it with all the DVR's out there.

When I think of a spoiler, I think of when people post if they *know* someone is going home on a future episode. Like for example if I were to say "I have friend who is friends with Ethan and Jenna. She told me that they definitely make it to the last episode, but doesn't know if they win." <--that would be a spoiler (and FYI, I made it up.)

I don't think posting about the current episode while it's on is considered a spoiler. I mean, I may have to DVR and watch it later, but then I think it would be my responsibility to not look at the thread until I watched it!

I agree. I think as soon as it airs, it doesn't count as a spoiler anymore, and anyone who hasn't seen the current episode yet, and doesn't want to be spoiled, should just have the common sense not to read this thread.

The teams I like right now are the Olympic snowboarders, the grandparents, the flight attendants, and Ethan and Jenna.

Probably not this thread and not so much on others--but it has happened somewhere in the past where a west coaster (no names--just vaguely remember a complaint, not sure who) did not like that east coasters were updating.

It doesn't seem to be much of an issue now though not that it ever was to begin with on AR threads.

Thanks for the clarification on spoilers. I usually watch the show (and others) days later and only occasionally come to these threads. I wasn't sure how you talk about it without having discussion of the exact things going on and the outcome! I was really worried that I had typed too much information just saying that guys had found the passports and that someone had told them to take it to the airport.

I don't agree with waiting. It's really not that hard not to open a thread. I do it all the time. I'm not always able to watch a show when it airs so I just don't open the thread til I've seen the show, or decided I don't mind knowing.

I feel the same way. The one time I really hated something was the day after a Project Runway season ended, and someone posted the winner in the thread title. I knew not to read the PR thread, or go to PR's actual website, but I didn't think just coming on the CB would reveal the winner to me. As it was, a mod ending up removing the winner's name from the thread title.

I usually like to talk about the episodes as soon as I see them, though usually it is at least the next day by the time I do, so it's a moo point for me, but if I do watch it that night, I like discussing it while it's still fresh in my head.

That's so nice of you to say! I thought that people didn't like my menus. We went to see Lion King in 3D today, so I didn't have time to make something specific to Taiwan. Instead I made a "Chinese" type meal of crispy trout fillets with stir fried veggies (broccoli, baby bok choy, mushrooms, green onions) and rice. My DD had tofu instead of fish. My friends were not available tonight so we just ate alone. The show started on time .

I was surprised to see that there was a non-elimination round right away. I kinda liked the grandparents so I was glad they were not eliminated. Both female teams seem to be clueless, so I don't think we'll see another all female team win. So far I like the snowboarders, the Chicago couple (who won today), the football player and his wife and the flight attendants. I don't like the Survivor couple (I didn't like HER on her season and I think they have won quite enough reality TV money, thank you) and the father/son team (again, they don't need the $$ ... they are from Thousand Oaks and can afford to outfit a sailboat for a round the world trip).

I like that they didn't have an elimination round the first time out. I'd feel terrible if I made it all the way through the audition process, onto the show, only to be sent home on the first leg because of dumb luck or a bad break. You never know, the team sent home first could recover and end up winning it.

Now, if you make two dumb mistakes in a row, then you deserve to be sent packing

They are too good looking and will attract a lot of viewers, they couldn't let them go home too early. I was kind of disappointed when they first go to the airport, it looked like there was no hope of them getting on that flight.

I must be getting old. There are so many good-looking women selected for shows like AR and Survivor, that they all look the same. And why is it that in the majority of the cases, the editing makes them look dumb? If just looking at young babes is what caused me to watch a show, I'd go watch Skinemax. I like AR for the teams who are funny, witty, smart and good competitors.

The Vegas showgirls really got lucky at the airport. They'd better stop talking about how smart they are, and step up their game.

The last place couple seems really sweet, but I worry that they're out of their league. They just seemed so clueless!

The sibling teams crack me up--maybe because I can relate, having four kids?

I'm 100% on Team Ethan and Jenna. I had a ton of respect for the way Ethan played and won Survivor. It's great to see how he's beaten back the cancer. Jenna seems to have matured a lot since her days on Survivor as well--I didn't care for her, the season she won, but then on All-Stars, she dropped out to say goodbye to her mom. That says a lot about her character. So, they're my #1--no #2 or 3, yet.

Noooo!! I love seeing your menus and love your idea so much I try to do it, too! Though I'm not a very good cook and usually do the cheap packaged food/ take-out version of it!!

Yea, it looks fishy, but maybe the snowboarders drove around in circles a bit before going to the gas station. I think someone else also mentioned signing releases. The helpful guy might have been hanging around the gas station for a little while signing his release, and still there when the girls got there.

DH was getting so disappointed when it looked like they would be out right away! He was enjoying watching them. . .

I often wish that we had a better idea of the timing of the teams throughout each leg. I know they purposely don't let us know the exact timing because it builds more suspense and is more dramatic that way but I often really wonder how long it is taking them. Like with the Roadblock last night I wanted to know how many times it took each team to get it.

me, too. I think they often edit it to make it more exciting. Like how they tried to make it appear the twins and the grandparents were pretty close together, but when the grandparents were done with the dragon boat, the other boats at the finish line were empty. They had been full of people for all the previous teams, including the twins.

I agree with this, too. Putting info in the thread title should be a no-no IMO, because people cannot avoid that, but if it's been aired in any time zone, I know my time zone airs it later, or sometimes I can't watch for a day or two, so I avoid the thread.

I was wondering why she had it out in the first place. I'd keep my stuff in a waist pack, but I'd NEVER take it off. Why in the world was her passport out of her backpack/waistpack/whatever to stop for directions?
