The "ALL Things THEFT" in Disney Thread

Once our rented double stroller was taken outside Spaceship Earth. First we thought the cm had moved it down the line a bit. Then we realized it was gone. The cm arranged for us to get another one.

DH lost our voucher for an AP in EPCOT one year. He's very lucky somebody turned it in. I pictured an open window with us just throwing $350 right out (obviously this wasn't recently).

We do leave things (not valuable) in our stroller. Some snacks and water bottles. I figure if they steal it, people need it more than I do. They'll have to settle their stealing ways someday.

We have just returned from our trip at WDW & we did not have any issues with missing stroller or items. Having said that I learned my lesson the "hard way". A bit OT, but just some good information for fellow travelers.

The trunk of our rental car was broken into (not Disney). Three bags of luggage were stolen. It was devastating, years later we are still dealing with identity theft issues.

Never leave your luggage in the trunk of a car & have your credit card company and or banking institution list you on their fraud alert list. Frequent calls from our bank gives me a sense of security and it's nice to know they are watching our back.

The only thing I can think of was a "missing" jacket. We were at MK the morning after Hurcane Wilma last year with only other resort guests. Because it was a bit chilly, we took our jackets to the park and I left them on the stroller while we went on Dumbo. When we got back, DS's Teen Titans jacket was gone. Maybe it was taken by someone who felt their child needed a jackey more then mine, or maybe it blew away in the wind. I checked Lost and Found for a few days, but nothing. What makes me the maddest is how anyone can take something that clearly belongs to a child, like a diaper bag with formula (sorry you ladies had to deal with that!!!). Especially something that the child will need. How do people like that live with themselves?

The Saturday before Hurricane Jeanne blew in we had dinner at Tangerine in WS. We were rushed as the park was closing around us. Rushed only because we had JUST gotten checked into our hotel and needed to eat before the place closed completely the next day.

Anyway, DH left my DS's diaper bag on the chair. We were the last customers and left as they were locking the doors for the hurricane. Didn't realize til we hit the bus that the bag was missing. Called Tangerine as they opened on Monday (closed on Sunday due to hurricane) and they claim they never saw it.

Checked with Lost and Found, not turned in there. Called Tangerine again, they had it! Went to Tangerine, CM looked for it for about half an hour, nobody ever saw it.

We believe that a CM took it, as they were the last ones that would have had access to it before we called to check on it for the first time.

(Note - I know it's our bad for leaving it in the restaurant. Just frustrated that it was gone and we ran around so much for it)

Back in '93 my mom left her video camera sit on the sidewalk while she took a picture of us with her 35mm camera. This was one of those BIG camcorders in the heavy plastic case (don't ask me why she carried the case into MK with us... ) Anyway, someone picked it when we had our backs turned, and then when we turned around we saw them walking away with it. My mom ran after them and they said they worked for Disney (we don't really know if they did, it was our first trip and I have no idea if they had a tag on or not) and they were taking it to lost and found. They said they thought someone had left it there? Well, we got it back and we were more careful after that! Since then, we have had no incidents at all!

Our 2 theft experiences are very similiar to this -
The first was a new pair of Timberland boots that we left in ASMo - I now, my fault for my carelessness, but mousekeeping never turned them in. I was so annoyed 'cause I tipped her well and everything. (we lived in Boston at the time, I couldn't firgure out what a Floridian needed with boots.)
The second was a Pal Mickey that we left in the Whispering Canyon Cafe at lunch. I called from home the same day (we live across town.) and the hostess said they'd found it and handed it on th the front desk. I called the front desk and "Tiffany" said she'd handed it on to central lost and found...I called central left a message and they got back to me two days later saying it had never been turned in. Central told me to call the front desk of the resort back, when I did no one had ever heard of "Tiffany" and asked what shift she worked, 'cause there were so many desk clerks or something...
I just got the total run around. I was very bummed out about Pal Mickey, very bummed out about the lost and found process at the resort.
That said, I've never had anything stolen from our stroller or stolen by another guest.

We had a towel stolen off a lounger in TL and my DD left a bag with a brand new, unopened Princess Fiona doll (not Disney I know) in the restrooms at IOA. She'd only just bought it. We went back within 2 mins and it was gone. It never was turned in to L&F

... and my bank reckons my credit card was skimmed at 'Ohana

We had two brand new never opened ponchos taken from our stroller basket. I got them at the dollar store so it was no big deal. I figured if they needed them that bad they could have em. I don't understand people stealing......especially for a $1 poncho!

I guess I've been very lucky to not have anything gone missing accept for things that were TOTALLY my fault. We were at Epcot before a parade one year and had to use the powder room. My daughter hung her fanny pack on the back of the door and forgot it! I SWEAR we just walked out of the door when we realized we didn't have it but it was already gone! she was SO upset! her camera, some little trinkets and a pearl that we had gotten from japan were all in it. We have learned our lesson since then and always double check. As far as the room goes, everything worth any real value goes into the safe! Helen

April of 2005 An employee of the POFQ erroneously charged 3000 on my credit card and the cards of 5 other people. Then refunded the money back to himself at the Vista credit union.

You may all be interested to know. That he was caught before 6am, ( he did this between 12 and 3 am) i never knew it happened till, I returned home and had several Messages from The sherriffs department.By then Disney had reversed the charges.

The case was disposed of just recently and this man despite sstealing almost 12? Grand from guests while they slept. Is not doing ANY jail time. Simply 500 hours community service per offense and fines. Bizzarre since 12 grand is certainly a felony.

Happened at Blizzard Beach

In January, at BB, we left our pool bag on a lounge chair (never again). When we returned, the bag was still there, but missing from inside were DS8's goggles, one disposable water camera, & DS's new Star Wars toy from MGM (I'd told him to leave it in our van!!!).

Sitting next to our bag on our chair was a strange backpack. We couldn't figure out why someone would leave a backpack on our chair when EVERY OTHER chair was empty. Our chair was the only occupied one in the entire area. Well, it turns out that this backpack had been stolen too & the thief had taken out all of the good stuff & left it next to ours.

We reported the theft to management & they were so nice about it & gave us a new camera from the gift shop & told us to tell the front desk at POP (where we were staying) about the Star Wars toy.

A nice CM at POP actually called over to MGM & had an identical toy sent over along with a signed card from Mickey for DS!! We couldn't believe it!!

Reading this entire thread leads me to think that the Polynesian has some issues with credit card fraud...

It just appears that everyone who claimed to have their number stolen had something to do with the Polynesian.

Just an observation.

I left my digital camera in a waterproof case on a loungechair at BB and realized I had done it halfway up the ski lift! It was still there when I returned. I was pleasantly surprised.

I have never had anything stolen in Disney. Hopefully it stays that way!

It was the night before our 10th anniversary and we were going to spend the evening enjoying Epcot. My in-laws were with us in addition to my then 2-year old son and his 6 month old brother. Obviously my hands were full when we went into dinner at Le Cellier, and I accidentally left my small purse on the stroller. I realized it about 15 minutes into the meal, but it was too late. They got about $80 in cash, $50 in Rainforest Cafe gift cards I'd worked forever to earn on Mypoints, plus my license and several credit cards. Instead of spending the evening at Epcot I spent the evening on the phone having to cancel credit cards . However, we refused to let it spoil our vacation and we still enjoyed our anniversary. I'm just thankful we drove to Disney and didn't have to worry about trying to get on an airplane with no photo ID!

I've always been careful anyway, but now I'm doubly cautious. DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED! Unfortunately, dishonest people are everywhere. I bet alot of the thefts mentioned on this thread weren't done by "criminals", just by people who saw an opportunity and took it. I sure hope what goes around comes around, because whoever stole my purse deserves a big karma bite in the fanny!

We were in MGM one day. y mom and I went to the bathroom while my dad was paying for a couple ties. Well, to make a long story short, we got seperated and my dad went to the car to make sure we hadn't left the park. Well, he put a couple Disney bags in the car. He came back into the park and we shortly caught up with one another. We then left MGM. As we were walking to our car, my dad noticed that our car door looked open. Sure enough there was a mexican guy in the front seat, and a black guy in the back. Well, they saw my dad coming and they jumped into their car (with a rolled up license plate). We got to the car and discovered that my mom's purse had been opened and some credit cards had been stolen. (The purse was in the car because my dad didn't want to leave it in the room because of Mousekeeping--That plan worked great...lol) (We also had a small TV in the back that happened to still be in the car.) So we went to Disney security and told them what happened. We called and canceled my mom's credit cards. But, the reason we left MGM early, was to go to the Wilderness Lodge opening and DVC tour (I think). Well, we totally missed it. But, a very kind CM named Marisca(not a typo) took us on the tour anyway. Well, when we got back to our room we found a rather large canvas beach bag kinda thing on the bed. Inside we found a couple of towels, toys, some neat pens, wooden nickels, a coupe pins, and a note from Marisca. It was really neat the way she tried to compensate for what happended earlier in the day. I guess we got a little pixie dust that that day.

Hi,

Left my umbrella on the boat from Wilderness Lodge to MK on December 7, 2005. Got a loaner from the Emporium at MK but still checked Lost and Found at the TTC. Never was turned in. When I tried to return the loaner umbrella at City Hall later that day, the CM told me to keep it. It's service like this that keeps me coming back year after year!

I left DDs bag of trading pins in the operators car of the yellow monorail on Saturday.... realized it about 1 1/2 hrs later, and checked back at the monorail station - no bag of pins, and I have called Lost and Found for the past two mornings - no luck. This is not a case of having "lost" something. I know exactly where I LEFT it by mistake.

It saddens me that folks that would find any personal belongings, especially the sentimental things that folks have at WDW - would consider not turning them into a CM somewhere.... they don't have to go out of their way - it could be given to any CM.....

Totally not the monetary value of the pins here - but DD loved her pins and this was TOTALLY my fault. I'm the one who pulled the bag out of my camera bag!

We have been very fortunate despite our carelessness. This past May we could have had several items stolen and several very teachable moments with my DS (11).
1) We were getting his haircut on Main Street (main goal was to get DS (8mths) first haircut but he was asleep. Anyway, my son had his lanyard on and there was not one spot left to put a new pin on. He was sitting in the chair in the corner trying to get out of having a haircut and put his lanyard on the chair while he was waiting. It was our turn and he went and got his haircut. The barber asked if he could put a design on the back of his head and DS said sure (thinking that he would put a Mickey head like he had several summers ago) and the barber put flowers for the flower festival. We were laughing and DS was not amused and just forgot about the lanyard. We left there headed to SM and when were we near the noodle terrace we remembered it. I high taled it back and it was right were we left it and a kids was looking at it. I politely asked for it back. (I do not think he was going to take--just look)

2) My DH has a video production company and we gave DS our old video camera because he liked filming like his dad. Well we were with a group of about 15 and half the group went to ride MS. Well when he got off the ride and he got seperated from the rest of the group and I saw everyone but him come out so I went looking. When I found him and we were exiting I asked where is your camera. He had left his camera and hat under the seat. Went directly to a CM and we had to tell which one we were in and exaclty what we left. Hat and video camera--had to know the brand. While he had someone look another family walked up and they had left there bag that had all their trip money it. Thankfully each item was found.

3)Our last night we stayed at ASMusic and DS forgot his wallet. There was no money left, but DH got it for him in Costa Rica and DS was very fond of it. We had already checked out and were at DTD when he realized he did not have it. Called and they contacted us later. Even though they found it in our room we still had to describe it to them. We got it in the mail several days later.

I know that we were very lucky. DD left her lanyard when she was 5 and it had about 20 pins on it at a bus stop in OKW. We got it back. She also dropped several pins off of it that trip and people told us she had dropped them.

We've been lucky in not having anything stolen or lost on any of our Disney trips (both WDW & Disneyland) but I have to say that I saw a segment on the news about how uncourteous and rude people have become over the last so many years. No one stops to help anyone out nor does anyone turn in items that are lost to be found!!!

As the mother of a 2 yr old, I have experienced it a lot since he was a baby. I remember one flight in particular I was flying from my then home in CA to visit my parents in my home state of Indiana. Our take of time was close to naptime and DS has never been one to sleep anywhere other than a bed, carseat or stroller. Of course he wasn't happy and was crying. A male flight attendant walked up to me as I was in my seat trying to calm my very tired son down and said, "Don't you have a pacifier or something to stick in his mouth!!" I was shocked!!! A few of the people around me felt so bad for my son because he was tired. None of them reacted this way. I felt like telling him, if you don't like crying children, you're in the wrong line of work.

I try to be as courteous, polite and helpful to others as I can be. And if I find something somewhere that has a lost and found, I always turn it in. I'm not greedy and know how much certain things mean to people. If I want something bad enough, I'll go buy it myself. I won't cash in on someone else's misfortune.
