The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl, Thanks for the fireplace kudos! I wanted to say Congratulations to Josh!!! What a great honor he received! :thumbsup2 You guys really know how to celebrate...I wanna come to a crawfish boil!

I hope Kyle's Mass and celebration were not affected my the weather. I am sure the proud Mama will fill us in later.

Lauren, I really do love the way your fireplace turned out! Do you feel like it was worth the hassles & mess? We really can't decide if we are going to redo our's or not. It looks like you added a new window on one side too?

Thanks for the Congrats to Josh! We are so proud of those two! Both of our kid's ( Josh & DD) with high-falutin grad degrees! Josh is really stressed about not being able to start working right away. He has to take the licensing test first. Which means waiting on the school & the state for test scheduling, etc.

Sheryl - Congrats to Josh!!! You should be so very proud of both of them, I can only hope Kyle can achieve the same success.:goodvibes

The Mass and breakfast were both very nice despite the bad weather. Fortunately we had no street flooding to deal with but my tears could have flooded the church. It's not like I didn't know this was coming, DUH, but as soon as the boys walked into the church in their graduation gowns I lost it.

The boys were acting like typical boys at the breakfast - the topic of conversation was how to speed up the graduation ceremony because our NO Hornets are playing a big game that night...:rotfl:

Kathy, I'm sure Kyle will do great! Maybe it's something about Shaw Baseball pitchers!!! They sound so much alike! ( I'm wondering now, if they had some of the same coaches?) Both are mature, responsible, caring, but still a whole lot of Boy! He loves his ball sports, don't even try to talk to him with sports on the tv!

However, the lessons he learned from baseball are proving to be life long lessons for success!

Kathy- I have been waiting for your check in. I had forgotten about the weather so no I know that it was not too bad on the Mass. I understand the crying, I cried for 6 months before Dan graduated, and I thought that I would never stop. Between acknowledging that your child is no longer a "kid" and reliving all of those school years and the overwhelming pride in their accomplishments the tears just flow.

I would have loved to see you face when they tried to "rush" the morning along...... :rotfl2:

Sheryl- Congratulations to Josh! You are right, two fancy degrees in the family is something to be very proud of :thumbsup2. The celebration sounds like so much fun!

It's is going to be tough for him to wait but he's worked so long towards this end, a little while longer til he passes his boards and then off to work. He is going to have plenty of years for this, I think.

I don't have a DH, but I do live with my mother. ;) And believe me she would fit! :rolleyes1

Last week she had to have a minor medical procedure. I went to pick her up and had to sign paperwork. I was joking around and said something about burying her in the back yard. The nurse did not appreciate my humor. :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: She might not, but I think that is hysterical.

Yep that is my little Belle :) That was when she was only a couple of months old, here is a more recent one

That is a precious puppy! Such a sweet face. :lovestruc

and the garlic/parmesan monkey bread everyone has been discussing. I made it with pizza dough:

Thanks for the congrats for Liam's team. He is lucky to be playing with some really good ballplayers. He is not a liability, but he isn't one of the major contributors either, at this point. I'll take that. He's the youngest kid on the team.

That photo actually made me hungry! It looks delicious, and I'm not usually a bread person.

And I think it's great that Liam is holding his own with the older boys. The difference in their physical development and strength at different ages is so pronounced during these younger years that I think Liam is doing well to be hanging in there. I'm sure this is a good experience for him and after a year with the bigger boys, he may be one of the best next year.

DH learned today that his company lost their financial backing and they may all be out of a job in 2 weeks. He's been looking anyways, since work is slow and they will end up laying people off soon, but this just puts fire under our butts. I have a connection we're working on which would put him in the oil/gas industry which we ALL know is lucrative right now!!! Please say a prayer that it might come through very quickly. We can't live on 1 income right now.

Aimee, I'll be praying for both of you. Between his work stress and your work stress, you are both going to need a vacation, probably much sooner than it's going to get here. :grouphug:

Anywho....:rolleyes1 what a downer of a post this has been...for those still reading, lol........I would be sick of me by now too....heck, I AM some days;)

You're not a downer. And that's what we are here for. I've missed you too and I'll be thinking of you and praying for you.

My sheets were on sale and I got them $20 cheaper.

How cool is that?!?! I love it when I stumble onto a deal!

I love a sale. Especially when it is a double secret sale and you don't know what you're getting is on sale until you get to the register. It's like pulling the slot machine lever and having the quarters come pouring out. :woohoo: Glad you like the sheets, BTW.

I have no idea what to do for dinner tonight. My niece by my first marriage lost her stepmother this week. The service is tonight so I am going to go.

I have mixed feelings her, my SIL's divorce was not pretty and the relationship after the divorce was even worse with my niece and nephew caught in the middle of an all out war. When their father remarried his wife would not welcome the kids into their home. My Sis IL passed away in CA unexpectedly and the reaction from the new wife was cold at best. Anyway, my wonderful, caring and compassionate niece has been hit hard by this death so we are going to support her but I feel very guilty that I have no compassion for anyone else in this.

Nancy, don't feel guilty. What you're feeling is human and completely understandable. It's hard to feel compassion for people who haven't had much compassion for others. I think you're being a great aunt to go and support your niece.

WFD- I don't really know, I have so much to do to get this quilt done and my friend is coming over tonight to make chocolate spoons for the shower gifts.

Ok. All the quilting and chocolate spoon making is making me tired. ;) I can't sew a button on and would know how to make a chocolate spoon if my life depended on it. It all sounds very time consuming. I hope you are able to get it all done (and find time to squeeze in a little sleep for yourself).

Andrew's team won!!! Thanks for all the rah rahs! This is the best team in this division and we beat them twice!

That's great! Yeah for Andrew (and his team)!!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Sorry I didn't get to check in yesterday. It was graduation day for my SIL yesterday! Even with heavy rain & a minor windshield wiper mishap the day turned out great. Josh received the Top Clinician Award! And our Governor was the commencment speaker. In true Cajun fashion, we had a Crawfish Boil afterwards & spent the whole day eating & hanging out. It was a good day!

I know you are proud of both of them! And the crawfish boil sounds wonderful.

 I'm glad everything went well in spite of the weather. I'm a crier too, so I would have lost it myself. I don't think it matters that you knew the end of his high school years were coming, it just floods you with emotion when the end arrives and you know how much his life is going to change.

Becky - I wanted to make sure I wished you a Happy Birthday in case I don't check in tomorrow. I hope you have a great one.

Tonight's dinner is going to be spicy chili shrimp with broccoli. Kenny caught a head cold taking Patrick to the doctor on Monday (at least he's convinced that's where he caught it), so I told him I'd make something that would open his head up. I also made a chocolate, chocolate bundt cake for dessert.

I'm trying to bake more since my sister is the baker in the family and she's going to be moving away in August. Someone has to pick up the baton, or whisk in this case, so I'm learning. So far, I've made the baklava, the strawberry layer cake, some very forgettable blondies, Lindsay's better than s*x cake, and a horrible, tooth achingly sweet, tossed it right in the garbage, snickerdoodle cake. I'm learning as I go along, but the chocolate cake turned out pretty good.

Nanc, He has been on edge since he finished clinicals. I think he was enjoying the work so much, being back in the classroom was hard enough. But now just waiting around is killing him. And Mr. Responsible is feeling guilt and remorse over his car purchase. He thinks he should have waited a while, even though everyone is telling him otherwise.

I had that happen once. I was buying a formal dress from JC Penney and it was marked $49.95, it rang up $21.99! :woohoo: I just bought two sundresses there and was hoping for the same thing but no such luck.

The time consuming part is the pinning the pieces together. I hope to get a little bit of sleep tonight but that's what I get for opening my big mouth and volunteering to make the quilt.

Late last night, about 1:00am I was sewing away, had my headphones on listening to music, singing away. I expected my DM to come down at any time and yell at me. :rotfl:

And the chocolate spoons are my fault as well, she was going to buy them on Ebay and I told her she could make them herself cheaper. :sad2:

Dinner sounds delish! Hope it helps Kenny's cold. Gretchen, That's how our family's seafood boil cooks know when they've gotten the seasoning just right. If it doesn't make your nose run, then it's not right!

You sure have been a busy baker! I'm impressed, cake baking is really hard for me!

Further proof of my theory that no good deed goes unpunished. I hope everything goes ok. I can't wait to hear about it.

That sounds like Daddy's BBQ sauce. Better than any decongestant on the market.

And the cakes I've made were all of the easy (mix) variety. I've been too afraid to try one from scratch.

I'm trying to bake more since my sister is the baker in the family and she's going to be moving away in August.

My SIL and I were just talking about his earlier. Her sister and the new wife used those kids terribly and my wimpy ex BIL allowed it. He simply abdicated and while I can understand that all of the adults had issues with each other, those two kids just wanted to be accepted. Now my SIL removed them from me once Donald died as she felt we were no longer family so her two and mine never really had the chance to get to know each other the way cousins should. They really had no idea what I was really like. SIL died unexpectedly in Ca, I joined my SIL and my niece and nephew to go and deal with her apartment and the arrangements and then SIL ans I went to Orlando to visit them and see how they were doing.

I am not sure how it happened but my niece is one of the most wonderful loving young women I have ever met. She has been a Godsend to my MIL her Meme and I love her dearly. She has asked Meme, SIL and I to go and has called a few times so I think that she is afraid of the treatment she may be exposed to.

Gretchen- how is your sister doing? I have thought about her.

Tell your SIL that Nancy said to enjoy the new car! Now is the time to make that kind of purchase. Later they won't, there will be too many reasons to put that money somewhere else.

Note to Merle-never make chocolate spoons, they are cheaper to buy when you consider the time. Also there will never be enough time to make anything and get it done early. Never.

And if anyone tells you that it is way cheaper to have a big celebration in your home RUN! to the caterer!

I have learned all of these things the hard way and hope to save others.

Master Mason, That pork loin sounds delicious! Do you do all the cooking in your house? Love your pup too, how old is she now?

Yes I do all the cooking and pretty much have since I was 16 years old. I also have a small catering business, that I do on the side.

Kathy, I'm sure Kyle will do great! Maybe it's something about Shaw Baseball pitchers!!! They sound so much alike!

I pray that you're right, I guess I'm just really emotional today and worrying about him going off into this big bad world.:sad1:

I understand the crying, I cried for 6 months before Dan graduated, and I thought that I would never stop. Between acknowledging that your child is no longer a "kid" and reliving all of those school years and the overwhelming pride in their accomplishments the tears just flow.

It's been non-stop tears all day and I'm sure this will continue through the weekend. I really miss my parents at times like these.:guilty:

Not sure if you remember, but I mentioned back in January that Kyle had been asked to try-out and made the Louisiana Knights baseball team. I am so glad that this starts immediately after graduation, I'll be able to re-focus on baseball again.:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 You guys really know how to celebrate...I wanna come to a crawfish boil!

I think we should have one especially for YOU!!!;)

 I'm glad everything went well in spite of the weather. I'm a crier too, so I would have lost it myself. I don't think it matters that you knew the end of his high school years were coming, it just floods you with emotion when the end arrives and you know how much his life is going to change.

I'm so well known among the baseball parents as a crier, everytime something was said during the mass that was somewhat emotional, all eyes were on me.:sad2:

I did a lot of baking last year after I got my stand mixer for Christmas and tried a variety of yummy things. I asked Kyle if he wanted something special (dessert) this weekend - he wants the Pot of Dirt (Oreo cookie) dessert.

Nancy, Come Monday, I think we'll have to worry about flooding again! During Kyle's Graduation Ceremony Kathy might just flood the whole city!

You know me way too well!;)

Hi everyone! :)

I am just popping in to say hi and to let you know that I will be back to regular posting very soon. I have lots of dinner photos from my trip to share with you! I am in the middle of editing and deleting everything--between my DH and I we took almost 2000 photos (not all of food, ha ha!) so as you can imagine there is a LOT of deleting to do!

I've been taking photos of dinners since I got home also, which I will share soon.

Anyway, WFD tonight is fajitas, guacamole, and margaritas! Happy Friday everyone!

PS: If anything huge happened while I was away, please clue me in! I don't know if I'll have time to go back through three weeks of posts.

Welcome home Becky!!!!! We missed your food porn and can't wait to see some pics!!!!:woohoo:

My daughter is at a birthday party down the road, so that means I can make something I like for dinner. We are having rissoto with chicken sausage and carmalized onions. I might go crazy and put cheddar cheese on it instead of romano (I'm to cheap to by parm, and no one notices.) I think I've been a SAHM for to long when I get excited about rice! I start working full time in 3 weeks and I can't wait. Then I can by the good cheese. I only work full time until September though, got to start slow.
Enjoy your dinners everyone and don't forget to eat your vegatables.

I feel so lost on this thread lately.... :surfweb: I just havent been keeping up!

:flower3: Welcome home Becky, you have been missed!

I am sending good thoughts to all of you. I know there has been alot going on with everyone. Tissues to all you proud moms, hugs to everyone having difficult times right now.

Tomorrow, we have my oldest niece's college graduation party. I have been helping my Mom all week shopping and cooking for this. I just got home and sauteed my sausage, onion and peppers for my calzones, which I will make tomorrow.

Ann

Stupid computer, tried to post that ealier and it froze up. :headache:

Becky Welcome home!

Master Mason I love the picture of Belle she is beautiful. Also like your recipes keep them coming.

Kathy:hug: I can only imagine how I'll be when Alex is ready to graduate. I was talking to my friend last night, her son is graduating college.
I remember when we moved here he was so young.:sad2:

Last night we had south africian food bobotie, lentils and a fruit salad. It was very good I love curry dishes. Alex thougth the rice and bread were very good ;) That kid has to expand his horizons.

Tonight we are having sandwiches from subway. I don't feel like cooking.

Welcome Home Becky! I remember your last trip, you asked Laura to stop in and keep us company while you were gone. :cheer2::cheer2: And now we know we have our own Iron Chefs here

Janice- I had bobotie when I stayed at AKL. Oh my goodness I liked it!

Ann- enjoy the party!

Kathy- I know that keeping you busy with baseball is therapeutic :thumbsup2

Rogue- It is so nice to be home with the kids but there sure is something to be said about having a little extra income, isn't there?

I did not cook tonight. I was feeling much better than yesterday but did not want to overdo. You can tell, I DIS'ed on and off all day :thumbsup2 Anyway Buddy did not want me to cook so he asked Marisa to pick up dinner after she dropped me off at the wake. (Yes, I asked her to driving me there and picking me up, I have a cushy life ;)) We did not want to mess up our points so we got him KFC and she and I had poached eggs on a light English muffin. Wednesday's BBQ cost me 10 points so I only have 10 more now to last until Sunday night . Kady is at a friends house.
