The All-New "unofficial" AKL/AKV's Jambo & Kidani FAQ thread.....

I actually have a question about the AKL/AKV about the rooms. I remember last year they were moving people around to different hotels because of the level of noise because of the construction. Is their a certain wing of the resort to steer clear of? Is their an incredibly loud amount of construction, if so where, and which would be the quietest wing to stay in? Thanks!

In order to be away from the construction it's best to request a view of Arusha savanna or Uzima savanna, both don't look out over the construction. I order to be closer to the pool and Mara, the quick service place, request Zebra trail, which is between Uzima and Arusha.

My request is always "Zebra trail, near the elevators down to the pool".

Usually that gets you an arusha savannah view, about 1/2 way down zebra trail. You're not TOO far from the lobby, and you're REALLY close to the pool and Mara.

We've book our first DVC trip and will be staying in a 2 bedroom villa, savannah view in December - we're very excited! :cool1:

I have a strange question for anyone who is familiar with the layout of the lodge - is there any way that our room could be under the concierge lounge? (The answer that I'm looking for is "no" :) ) We had a really bad experience last year when staying at the Beach Club - we were directly under the concierge lounge and were woken up in the middle of the night with the cleaning & vacuuming above us...it was really awful. (they did move us after 2 nights of that) I'm really hoping that we're nowhere near the lounge, but thought someone here might know so I don't have to worry about it for another 10 1/2 months!

Thanks!

No.

The concierge lounge is on the entrance side of the resort. There are a couple rooms directly below it....doors, anyway. IF they're rooms and not mechanical spaces (something I'm not sure of), their view would be of the porte cochere roof and incoming driveway. In other words: Decidedly NOT Savannah view.

This pic (though a bit dark) shows the lounge (you can see the TV), and two doors below it.

I'm so excited! I just booked my November vacation to AKL. After reading all of the posts I decided I couldn't wait anymore! Now I'm trying to convince some friends to come too!:yay:

I just got home from the AKL Villas ~ I am in LOVE with this resort!! I have not a clue why I waited so long to go!!!

I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. It would be great if you could share some details with all of us. :)

I will, by tomorrow I will post some photos etc, I am kind of in pain due to my knee, and did have to come home early. but I will post!

I am taking my family to AKL 8-10 til 8-16 we are going to arrive around 10am and we are planning on spending the day at AKL. That night I want to have a nice sit down dinner. It will be My husband(23) me(23) my daughter(5) my son (1) and sister (17). We are picky eaters tho. Where should we eat for the first night? I am thinking of staying at AKL for dinner also.

If you are staying at the AKL for dinner you could eat at Boma. It's a buffet dinner- my husband wasn't too thrilled by the choices there. They have a nice children's buffet , but many of the other selections on the buffet are a little unusual, I thought it was very good, but DH did not. You might want to check out the menu. Maybe a dinner at another resort restaurant might be better, or one on the Boardwalk. I've never eaten at the other table service restaurant (Jiko) at the AKL.

Hi AKL fans just 306 days until i am back at the AKL again:goodvibes Going dec 8-14th.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee. Please take care of yourself first. We will all still be here when you are better. :)

Lucky you! I would love to be there during Christmas. I understand the decorations are fabulous. I'll be at AKV July 2-14. I'm looking forward to the fireworks.

I am a very picky eater & was apprehensive when we went to Jiko for dinner on our last trip. The breads & dips are good. I had the sturgeon & it was very good. The tomato butter sauce was amazing!!! We have ressies there again this Sunday. My DS was 1.5 yrs old when we ate there last & he had the pizza, which was on a flatbread instead of reg pizza crust. He ate that up.
We haven't done Boma for dinner. We have ressies next week for breakfast only.

Look at the menus on wdwinfo.com & see if there's anything you'd like to try betw Jiko & Boma.

As much as i love AKL and the restaurants there, for the first night out I would suggest trying to get ressies for a Character Dinner -- Chef Mickeys or 1900 Park Fare are not in parks so they would work if you don't want to do a park your first day. If you really want to stay at AKL for dinner Boma's is a great buffet with lots to choose from. Your entire family should be able to find something there to eat. I love, love, love, Jiko's but my DD, who doesn't like food in general has a really hard time finding something there and usually ends up with Pasta in butter. She does much better at the buffet.

Hello everyone, I'm hoping some of you AKL veterans can help me out here. Our family is planning a trip for next September, and I'm wondering if the Uzima pool has been refurbished recently. It seems everytime we go somewhere we always hit a big refurb., and with our trip being in September and with 4 kids the pool is crucial for us. I'm paranoid that it might be closed in September when we go because I know that that is a big month for rehabs.
If the pool has never been rehabbed, wouldn't it soon be time?

Nope, not recently...or not that I remember.

But, having said that, there doesn't appear to be anything announced for a rehab, either. Given all the construction going on AROUND AKL (or, specifically, on the new DVC wing), I'm thinking you're actually pretty safe.

I suspect if any rehab is going to happen to the pool, it's a year or two away, at least. I also suspect, because Uzima is the ONLY pool option at AKL (while most other resorts have a quiet pool and a main pool), the rehab will either be held off on as long as possible or will be done at a faster pace than usual.

My daughters have a room only ressie at AKL on 8/1. We move over to BC the next day to start our package. I splurged and got us a Savannah room-- we will arrive around 6 p and plan to spend the evening watching the animals and hanging out at the resort. Which Savannah should I request? We want see giraffes more than anything with zebras and maybe some ostriches.
