Golf4food,

Since you changed rooms wondering how they work that out at akv? Some resorts allow you stay in your room till new room is ready and some you have to check out and store your luggage, etc.. . What about if you have food / refrigerator items? Just curious. We always wind up moving due to poor room assignments. :confused3 Just lucky like you. ;)

thanks, mky:cutie:

We had to leave Room A and leave all of our luggage with bell services - they put cold items in a fridge in their storage area to keep it cold - then were not able to check back into the new room until after 4 pm, I think it was, then bring the luggage back up, new keys, etc. If they had given us a "Savannah View" room to begin with instead of a "Maintenance Shed and Pine Tree View" there wouldn't have been any problems. :)

Is internet service available at AKL?

If so, how much is the charge?

Do you pay a daily rate or a single charge for each 24 hour period (in other words, If I sign on at arrival, 3:00 PM, do I receive internet service until 3:00 PM the next day, or only until midnight the first day)?

Internet service is $10/day and is charged for each 24 hour period.

The popular make-your-own holiday ornament tables will be set up again this season at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Guests can join cultural representatives from Africa from 3 to 7 p.m. in the lobby of Jambo House and from 4 to 7 p.m. in the library at Kidani Village on Dec. 15 to 29 to make their creations.

Unfertilized ostrich egg shells from Animal Kingdom Lodge and the neighboring theme park are crushed and then dyed into colorful pieces that guests glue onto animal-shaped ornaments. Glitter and beads personalize the mosaic-like ornaments, and they are hung by recycled telephone wire.

The project is free, but a suggested donation of $5 per ornament goes to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund.

Kerri Sue Callahan visited Walt Disney World last December and said her family had fun making the ornaments. Because the keepsakes are paper with fragile egg shells, Callahan recommends parents use a few coats of sealer when they return home to preserve their hard work.

We just got back from our first stay at AKL (Jambo House) and hate to pile on about the bus service, but it was disappointing. Buses from the resort weren't bad at all, but buses back from the parks were always packed and standing room only, no matter the time of day. By the end of our stay we started to pass on full buses & waited for the next one just to get a seat. Not to mention that our driver to DTD forgot he had to make a Kidani stop & REVERSED the bus for about 20 seconds to get back to his turn off!

We arrive at AKL late tomorrow afternoon. I'm tying to keep a positive attitude even about the buses (will my grey hair help any?) We don't stay until park closing and tend to travel at off times so I'm sure hoping that we will not find the bus transportation lacking too much.

I'm thinking you'll have a much better time with the buses now. There appears to be lots of room types available during your stay, whereas during our week there the resort was at capacity. Good luck and enjoy your stay! pixiedust:

We stayed at AKL in a savannah view room at the end of September. (I haven't updated our siggie yet). We are now planning our next trip and would love to do a split stay with AKL and Poly, because we loved AKL. Problem is, our next trip dd will be just 3, so we will count as a family of 5. That means we need to book a 1 bedroom villa, right? The questions we have are: is our only option for 1 bedrooms the 5th or 6th floor at Jambo, or can we rent a 1 bedroom at Kidani, and if so, where are the 1 bedrooms located there? (we would prefer a lower floor for a better view, we stayed on the 3rd floor Arusha savannah zebra trail, and it seemed like the perfect "height"). I also wonder, is there really very many of these rooms available, or are our odds of getting one pretty slim? I would appreciate any info very much; we don't want to get to excited about the idea if it's not really possible.

Yes, it is finally here! My DH still has some vertigo issues but it is now controlled with less than 1/2 the medication that he was on in July - mid November. Thanks for the wishes for a magical trip.

Just returned home from a week at a 2 bedroom Value at Jambo. There was plenty of space (only 4 of us) DH & I got the master bedroom and MIL and her Hubby got the studio. My only problem was the bathtub. I am not the most coordinated person. The tub is quite high. I needed DH's help to get into the shower and I would have felt "safer" if there was a bath mat or grab rails. The bottom of the tub was a little slippery so we ended up putting a towel in the tub so I would be more secure standing. We were in 5028 & 5030. We had a view of the pool. Had a great time, but it was a little cold. I would stay at a value again. Penny:hippie:

Well I am back from a wonderful time in the world and loved our first ever stay at the AKL.

Sorry for the delay in telling everyone about my trip but I tend to go into a post Disney depression and avoid the dis boards for a week or two after coming back. :rotfl2:

Anyways not big into writing trip reports but will give you the low downs. Booked a standard room and during check in we were happy to hear we were upgraded to a savannah view room. CM asked if we would mind because it is the furthest room from the lobby. We were in 3595 which was at the very end and I mean very end of the trail. We were excited for the pixie dust and then it got even better. The kids really wanted bunk beds we did not even think about them again but as soon as we open the door to our room the first 2 things we see are a giraffe out our window and bunk beds.... What a great start.

We spent the first day hanging around the resort we went over to kadani and enjoyed the great pool area they have over there. Awesome water slide!

Next day things did not go so well. We got the kids all dressed and were heading to MK for rope drop. Got all the way to the lobby with my DS 4 on my shoulders and then "daddy I do not feel well" BARF!!! all over me. So we found a CM and apologized for the mess on the floor and then made the trek back to the room. Man it seemed like a long walk then and I almost wished we had gotten our standard room.

Got the youngest changed and he insisted he was feeling fine and wanted to go to the park. He looked fine had no fever so we assumed he most of gotten sick from me bouncing him around on my shoulders. So we make the trek back to the lobby and on to MK. Get thru bag check at MK and then my oldest son DS9 says he is not feeling well!!! My youngest is fine now it is the oldest  . We turn around and head back to the AKL wow what a start for our park days.:rotfl2:

Get back to the hotel kids go to sleep for a couple of hours everyone wakes up feeling great and decide they want to go to the pool for a swim. Oldest son is in the pool for a couple of hours when all of a sudden it happens..... He vomits right in the pool and on the pool deck. I felt so bad for him and then after I tell the life guard I feel so bad for everyone else as he closes the pool and asks everyone to get out. My son was so embarrassed but to the credit of the life guard he waited until my son was out of the pool and away from the scene so no one was looking at him and making him feel bad about it. They handled it very well. Sorry if you were at the pool on Monday the November 29th. It was our fault you had to leave the pool.

Anyways DW decided she would stay back in the room so that I could take my youngest to the park for the evening as it was the only time we were going to be able to see MSEP and she was wonderful for insisting I go knowing it was the one thing on my to do list for our trip and the only night we would have been able to see it.

Rest of the trip was magical really enjoyed all of the CM's we interacted with at AKL and almost bought DVC. Surprisingly it was my wife that was pushing me to buy it!! Big change as normally she is the one talking me out of big purchases. Too bad I had a rational moment and thought it thru determining that it was not right for us at this time.

Did encounter a few problems with confusion because of the system changes that effected our DDP but nothing serious. In fact I think we ended up with some extra credits some how.

Anyways this has been long winded so I will stop typing but if you have any questions let me know.

wow, not a fun way to do disney....hope your kiddos felt better and you enjoyed the rest of your trip!
