during hurricane frances we were given an automatic "deal" (or discounted priced rooms) when we had to extend our stay... i did not ask or even attempt to negotiate price for the extra night (just grateful that they had the rooms avail!) but when i was told the rooms were available, the price came up $49! i was very pleased and commended disney on their excellent customer service/relations :)

Wow, That is awesome. When my DH and I stayed in PC for our honeymoon, we didn't get any kind of discount or upgrade or anything. Not one thing! I was kinda disapointed but oh well. We didn't care but I hear about all these people who get special treatment!!! We are going to go again in Jan and we are hoping for a room upgrade!!!! I'm going to ask this time.::MickeyMo

I know..I read about so many upgrades etc..we've been going for 33 yrs and were offered an upgrade once at the AKL. Never had a room discount until my last visit in September 2004 and this next visit in December too :)

I do not go expecting any more than a few days of magic..if more magic than expected comes our way, all the better!

We've had many wonderfully magical vacations to WDW and I would not trade a one..even the ones when it seemed mousekeeping did not notice the crumbs left by the previous occupants, or when we had to be moved do the roaches in our room (many yrs ago), or when my son fractured his arm (security drove us to the hospital and came back to pick us up, no charge)...I could go on ..there are mishaps sometimes, but far more magic!

I will always treasure every visit!:cloud9:

I totally agree with you! I wouldn't trade any of my visits either. Althought I'm lucky that I haven't had anything go too terribly wrong. I have many more trips to go though!! ::MinnieMo

getting a discounted extension is a tip that has been on the budget, in guidebooks and on Disney Dollarless, I think.

The risk is if no rooms are available. Also you may have to change rooms.

Technically Florida has a law (at least they used to) that as long as you pay your bill they can't kick you out of a hotel room.

I got a WDW tip in my email with pics of Pop. They were really good! I'm glad I finally got to see them since I can't see the ones you all were talking about.

My parents are thinking of going next year, and after seeing all the memorabelia, I think I'm going to recommend they stay here too, I think they'd get a big kick out of it!

We leave 1 month from today, yahoo!!!

I have a thread with pictures posted from our September trip to Pop. One of the pictures was of the vertical decade signs in front of the main front entrance to Classic Hall. Someone posted this regarding these signs:

When we checked in on Sat. 10/2 the only sign up was the 1950's ... when we came out after registering (it was a long wait) the '50s sign was being taken down ... wonder if they're gone for good?

Say it isn't so!!! I know the 1970's sign was damaged in Hurricane Jeanne. Were the rest damaged too??

We were there 10/15-10/19 and all the signs were down. We were told that with the 70's sign being damaged all of them were removed until it could be repaired. I really hope that's true.

Do I get a gold star?!? I just made it through all 148 pages of this thread!!

We stayed at POP for a week last February. Liked it so much we are returning in 3 weeks!

LUGGAGE QUESTION for Tyler or anyone who can answer:

We are staying 3 nights at POP, then 4 nights on the Disney cruise, then back at POP for another 7 nights. Can POP store our stroller and a box of stuff we don't need on the cruise (and don't want to schlep on & off the ship) until we return for our second stay?

If so, who should I contact to arrange this?

Thanx for any help!

~Nancy~

on page 1 of this thread is the resort phone number. You could talk to the manager...

BTW, I thought the cruise people would pick your stuff up at a WDW resort so you didn't have to schlep.

Hurricane Jeanne damages the 1970's as well as the 1980's signs, and they needed to be removed. For show quality reasons, as well as precautionary reasons, the other decades were also temporarily removed, so that they could all be re-built in a more sturdy fashion.

YES! It can be done! The Luggage Assistance folks have a Long Term storage area specifically for this purpose. Just give them a call the night before to arrange a pick up time. Make sure to let them know its going into Long Term Storage. You can also just drop it off at the Luggage Assistance area.

Also, will you be using DCL transfers? If so, Pop Century can transport your luggage to the Swan/Dolphin for pickup by 9am, as long as you call them the night before to arrange it. Make sure to let them know it is cruise line luggage, and that it is tagged with the special DCL tags.

If you arrange your transfers through DCL (using the bus operated by Mears), DCL will pick up the luggage at designated resorts only. The one closest to Pop is the Swan. Luggage must be there by 9am to catch the luggage truck. Passengers must be there by 11am, I think, to catch the bus.

Thank you so much for the speedy replies! I am glad POP can store our items while we are on the cruise. Great! Another item to cross off my endless list. ::yes::

We are not using DCL transfers, but rather driving our rental SUV to the port and turning it in to Budget there. We will re-rent a SUV when we disembark the cruise ship. :boat:

That's too bad about the decades - we were also there & saw the damage to the 1970's the morning after Jeanne. I really hope they're back up by the end of January - we just got a great AP rate & will be returning to POP the last week of January!!! :) we can't wait! I meant to take some resort pictures on our last day in September - so, the only pics I have of the decades is with the 1970's demolished. It'd be great to get a picture of all of the decades standing. ;)

i'll bump along w/the rest of ya's...
and let OLT know that your countdown clock is blank! are you there yet?! :)
