So Tyler, during your Pop days, when a guest requests a certain room during check-in how popular were the corner rooms?

We actually did have a corner room. However, I've never had a guest request one. One word of caution... although we never heard general foot traffic, if some Joe Shmoe was bringing his handcart or other wheeled cart/luggage/cooler down the stairs (instead of using the elevator), you could hear the BOOM BOOM BOOM. Only happened once or twice though.

Babyfatt ,

Just in case you are wondering if the corner rooms have double windows like the moderates, all the rooms at the POP have one window, even the corner rooms.

I always assume that's why people want a corner room because that is the only reason I request one - more light and the room feels larger even thought it's not.

At the POP would one request a corner room for more quiet? We did not stay in a corner room there, but had no noise problems at all. We were told the resort was full - we were on the lake side and maybe that made a difference.

Chip 'n Dale Express - what an interesting way to spend a birthday! Maybe not ;)

Nice the charachers are able to spend time at the resorts during the storm. Hope they all got home safe and sound.

Did you use the thermostate on the wall by the window? We could adjust ours but only within a certain (narrow) range. Don't recall the range, but it worked well enough.

Today is packing day! Tomorrow my first visit to the GF...3 nights..maybe I will not want to leave the resort- For what I'm paying maybe I shouldn't leave the resort!! Never thought I'd stay there as it seemed too stuffy, although very pretty when I visited a friend there.

Does anyone know if you can rent travel cribs at PC? Thanks

We had our 19 month old with us and asked for a crib for her to sleep in, and a Graco Pack and Play was provided (at no extra charge). We brought our own sheets and blanket from home, so they would be familiar to her, but POP also provided a sheet, but no blankets.

HTH :)

We just returned from 4 nights at Pop Century, me, DH, DD who was turning 2 on the trip, my parents and my sister. It was supposed to be 5 nights but because we were driving and my dad and sister needed to get back to work, we had to leave 2 full days early so as not to get caught in Jeanne and her aftermath. We were supposed to leave Sunday night after a nice long day at Epcot, but instead left Saturday morning:(

Anyway, we drove down, leaving a day earlier then we had originally planned. The idea was to stop somewhere along the way from MI to FL and do something fun, but we ended up just driving straight to FL, only stopping for hotels at night. So, we arrived at Disney one day early and called Pop to see if we could get into our rooms a day early. No problem!

Check-in was fast, maybe a 15 minute wait and that was only because we came in just after a bus from the airport arrived. Our CM was fast and efficient, nice but not overly friendly. She did have some difficutly understanding that we wanted to split the charges for the rooms and have my dad pay for his room and we would pay for ours. The reservation was just under my DH's name for both rooms so that took a minute for her to sort out.

We borrowed a luggage rack (you have one hour to get the rack back or they charge you some outrageous fee) and loaded up our luggage. The CM told us to park in the lot directly across from the main entrance and we could stay parked there because we were staying in the 60's section.

We had connecting rooms, floor 3, 60's building A. We were in the wing that juts out towards the 50's section, facing the lake. It was VERY quiet, we hardly ever saw anyone else and NEVER heard anyone at all, not on our floor or above or below us. The only way we knew there were other people on our floor was seeing the towel animals and displays in the windows.

The rooms are small--really small. I had read about that before I left, but we're not terribly picky people when it comes to room size so I didn't think much about it. We brought our stroller, which isn't terribly large, it's a single Graco Glider. To get the stroller in the room one person had to pull the door back as far as possible, putting all of their weight in it. Then and only then could the other person squeeze the stroller between the door and bed corner.

Also, the door stop is one of those little metal half spheres screwed to the floor. It blended in so well with the carpet, if you went to look out the window you would inevitably step on it or kick it. We met a man in the elevator who said he had just broken his two smallest toes when he accidentally kicked the door stop when barefooted. He limped off the elevator ahead of us and the toes looked pretty black and blue but I have no idea if they were really broken. Soooo, watch out for those door stops!

To close the door to the bathroom while you are in the bathroom, you have to go in, slide back behind the door and then close it because the space between the door and the toilet is about 1 inch:teeth: Also, the toilets are really powerful, they reminded me of airplane toilets, the pressure is that strong.

So, those are really the only complaints we had about the rooms we had, and for us those are VERY minor problems. We enjoyed pretty much everything else about our rooms and would definitely go back. In fact we are planning on going back ASAP to finish our vacation as we only managed to fit half of it in before Jeanne forced us to leave. And hopefully we'll be staying at Pop!

(A note about the food at Pop. There is quite a bit of food to choose from, from Poptarts and bagels to shrimp, salmon and pasta. I personally did not eat any of the hot food, but my parents had the pizza and my husband had some sort of pasta and both were pretty poor according to them. The rest of the food got no complaints though, the bagels were soft, the muffins were fresh, the bananas were perfect, the desserts were yummy, the chicken wrap I had was great, the veggie sub my sister had was tasty. The prices were high, but that was to be expected. However, charging $2.50 for a bottle of Coke is...highway robbery!)

Angela,

You have me laughing right out loud - yes, yes , yes!! All those things are true about the POP! I had completely forgotten about the door stop and was lucky I did not wind up with, at the very least, broken toes - one time I thought sure I was going to go right through the window!

Oh!!!  the toilets!! I was afraid to flush during a night time visit becasue not only might I wake up my friend but the entire floor. I had this thing about flushing- get out as fast as poissible so you don't get sucked in!!

We were there 6 weeks after it opened - it was new and clean (okay, they never vacummed while we were there but we were 2 VERY clean adults).

CM at check-in was kind of quirky - easily confused and not unfriendly, but not friendly either. I wish I could work at the POP just to help every guest checking in feel like they were at a duluxe - you know that same, you are special feeling?

Thanks much for the report - I LOVED it!!

My DH::MickeyMo DDprincess: and myself::MinnieMo will be staying Feb 5-12, 2005 at the PC in a standard room (after going on the DCL Western 7 day cruise:Pinkbounc .

From the other posts it looks like the 50's bldg on the lake side is a preferred bldg. DD will be almost 5, is the kids pool close by? Can I request a room this far out from our ressie? need a quiet, non smoking, with 2 double beds, any suggestions of which rooms would qualify?

We are 4 months out today and can't wait to experience the "Magic" once again.

Hope to see you during our visit.:wave2:

Thanks for your great thread.

The 1950's are standard rooms. Only the 1960's are Preferred buildings.

Pools are close by to ALL buildings, although the 1970's will have a short walk to either the Hippie Dippie or the Computer pool.

the back of the 50's is quiet, but not far from the bowling pin pool and yes, you cna put your requeest in now, just be sure to mention it again at check-in..i.e. what would be available in the 50's buidling and the should go over the rooms available with you!

I'm leaving in 20 mins!!!! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Just got back from POP and had a great time. Had a room on the 2nd floor of the 70's building which was a great location. My 4 yr old DS loved that his Pooh was swinging on the curtains when we returned to the room every night and loved the washcloth duck he found on his bed the first night. Food court was crazy Saturday night before Jeanne hit. People were buying food like they would be trapped in their rooms forever. I promised my DS we could buy a new game to play but they were sold out except for The Pretty, Pretty Princess game so we had to settle for a story book and a sticker book. We also bought a Buzz Lightyear Spaceship to play with while confined. After the hurricane we had fun with the characters. We did have a minor problem in the MK on Saturday night with some of our belongings being lost when they were gathering up the strollers due to the impending hurricane while we were still on a ride but everthing was replaced and a credit isssued to our room by the Pop Century. I guess that is another advantage to staying at WDW.

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I was wondering has anyone ever tried to get a whole tye dye cheesecake I would love to get one to put in the room to suprise the kids with. Thanks

Does any one know if PC has refrigerator in the room? Is it free or it's charged? Thanks.

Wendy

You have to request it and it's $10/day unless you need it for medical reasons (refrigerating medication, etc), in which case it's free of charge.

I have really enjoyed reading your trip reports (and dining reports). Really great information and well written. Very detailed, really makes me want to be there, and I will, soon. We stayed at Pop in January and are going back in a couple of weeks. Our other favorite resorts have been Poly and POFQ, like you. I guess it's the PO thing for us too! I am in awe at those of you who take the time to keep up with all the details and actually do the trip reports. We alway say we are going to do it, but never actually do it. Thanks for taking the time to do it!
