The All New Pop Century FAR OUT FAQ Thread!

I dont think it makes a difference, really. First off, I requested the 50's, lake view (based on this thread) smoking. The request was made when I booked the room in May, I was there last week. I called to confirm a week before, and again requested the same. I got the 90's,parking lot...no smoking. My 10yr old nephew was not happy with this (i didnt care) so the CM changed us to the 70's, courtyard, no smoking. The CM said they give you the room based on whats clean and available at the time of checkin. The were 85% full. She was a bit "miffed" that I asked for a change....Oh well.

However, it was fine. The few times I had a smoke, I walked outside. We used all the pools. The windows had condensation from the a/c...so you couldnt see out them anyway.

Really no matter what bldg you stay in, it's not all that far from the main bldg & buses. Also its actually fun to walk around the PC. Much to see and hear the music in each section, bring back memories.

With ALL the walking you do in the parks, its rather silly to worry about "shortest" walk from your room to the busses.

As far as I know, there are no smoking rooms that have a lake view in the 50s. It could have also been that since you had requested a smoking optional room, there were no clean and available rooms in the 50s, but there were some in the 90s, and that's why you were placed there originally. Front Desk will always try and place you in a clean and available room, if there is no pre-blocked room lockout on the reservation. (A lockout is when a room assigner fills the gaps... ie, guest A is checking out on the 5th, and guest C is checking in on the 7th, and guest B is checking in on the 5th, and leaving on the 7th, they will place B in the middle of A and C.)

Indeed! :)

But it is the distance from the buses to the room that makes the difference. :moped:

Which brings up the following question to the all knowing, all wise, etc., etc. Tyler: :worship:

I have ressies for the 60s building. I decided I would like to get the 70s instead. The decade I was born. Anyway, a month or so ago I talked with my AAA agent and he talked to WDW and he told me that I can change buildings but could not guarantee the 70s. I told him I'll stick with the current ressie and wait until I arrive to request the 70s.

Okay, okay, now the question: Can I fax a request to Pop a few days in advance requesting a 70s building or should I just wait 'til I get there?

Tyler,

I didnt know where the smoking rooms were. It really didnt make a diffrence to me at all anyway. Now that I been there, I dont think it makes any difference what Bldg you stay in. They are all fine. When I'd use my car, i'd like to park near the buses anyway. Since we were addicted to the Frozen cokes, our first & last stop was in the cafeteria every day.

I am sorry I missed you, I met Taylor..thought his name tag said Tyler. Thanks for all your help.

I decided when I grow up(44 now) I want to be a monorail driver!!!!:earsboy:

Do it upon check-in. Make sure to let the person who checks you in know that you'd like to downgrade, and be placed into the 1970s. It'll take a few minutes to adjust the package, but it can be done.

Taylor from the front desk, or Taylor the front desk/luggage manager? He was my manager... great leader. One of the best Disney has. :)

Can someone tell me about the pop jet water fountains at Pop Century? Are they similar to the leap frog fountains at Epcot? I hear a Goofy statue is there and the ground surrounding the fountains is somewhat padded? Is it a play area for children? Is it crowded much of the time? Any info appreciated. Would love to see pics. :)

Thanks,
Tink

here's a POP slideshow link...

I have a question too. There are no elevators at POP, correct? Has anyone stayed on the top floor? I usually pack way too much and I am dreading hauling my giant suitcase up all those stairs. Is it really that bad? Thanks for any help :)

What ?? ::yes:: every building has elevators...but you can drop your luggage off and have it delivered to your room...You need to read page 1 of this thread...

Q: Will Pop Century have Bell Services?
Upon arrival, Pop Century will offer Luggage Assistance for our guests. Not to be confused with "Bell Services" found at Deluxe resorts, Luggage Assistance will take your luggage, and store it while you enter the lobby and check in. Your luggage will then be automatically delivered to your room within an hour of it becoming available. You do not need to be in the room for luggage to be delivered, so you can go off and play in the parks. When you get back, your luggage will already be there. We will have refrigerators for food and medical usage. (All food *MUST* be factory sealed) We will also have a locked area for valuables such as laptops, cameras, and other electronics.

When checking out, we can come and pick up your luggage, and store it until you are ready to depart. We do ask that you give us a call the night before, to arrange a pick up time. If you call day of, we may not have any availability left. We require a minimum of one hours notice. Those of you who opt for Express Checkout will receive a voice mail reminding you of this option, as well as other Express Checkout info. By the way, the voice of Express Checkout is the same voice that does the Monorail Spiel.

You do not need to be in your room for drop off or pick up.

Should you wish to handle your own luggage, we offer the use of our hand carts. (Not the "bird cages," but push carts) Usage of the carts is free, however, we will require a credit card on file, should you decide to take one home as a souvenir. We also do ask that guests limit cart usage to 30 minutes, so that other guests may use them as well.

There are elevators at POP. However since we were on the second floor we found it faster to take the stairs.

Thank you so much. I have read so much information that it's all getting mixed up in my head ;) I did read that first page, but it was about 3 months ago when we chose to stay at POP, and since then, had been told by someone that there weren't elevators and that that was not accurate. Boy, I'm glad I asked :) Thanks!!! I should have known Tyler's info would be accurate- I'm sorry for doubting you :(

Hi all Pop vets!!! :wave2:

I was just on www.disneyworldtrivia.com and there was a bunch of Pop Century pics.

A couple of pics were of the Twister game outside. Has anyone that has already stayed at Pop played or saw people playing Twister? I'm just curious if anyone ever has.

We played Twister on one of our trips, my nephews thought it was cool, they loved it when their Mom (MagicSis) played with them...I only wish I had had my camera.:p

We will be at the Pop in September. It is imperative that we have a non-smoking room do to my sons asthma. It has been noted on our confirmation, however, do you think it is necessary for me to fax another request before we arrive. By the way we will be staying in the 60's since we requested preferred! (YES we payed that extra $10 everyone thinks is unnecessary)
Thanks in advance!

As long as it is noted as guaranteed on your reservation, I would not worry about it. Three of the four in my household have asthma and as long as you tell CRO, they are very cautious about guaranteeing non-smoking for medical reasons. They really are diligent about it and we've never had a problem. We've also never faxed a request to a resort prior to check-in. I call several times to go over everything but that's mostly to confirm PS's. 60s buildings are nice but I wouldn't say worth the extra $$ each night. The resort has a great layout where no room is really far away from Classic Hall. Have a great time! Can't wait to go back in October!:bounce:

Be sure to mention that it is "the most important preference" and that it is a medical need.

As was mentioned may pages ago by Tyler, when entering your requests, give them a prioritized list. This makes the schedulers job easier.

The time is coming soon!! These three days are going to go soooooooooo sloooooooowwwwwwww. I'm really excited to be staying in this resort and look foward to having a great trip.

Mike, Have a terrific time!!! All the Florida/Georgia kids are back in school so the crowds will be down a bit. You'll have to post a trip report when you get back to Dumont NJ and let us know the fabulous time your family had! Any last minute questions?????
