Now since Disney has posted it's new pricing seasons for 2010 it seems to be that they have sub-classified a GV room into 2 different views. One states views of parking lot, monorail, gardens, the other says something like view of gardens and marina. Am I reading it right?

There are so many "seasons" now it is crazy!

Just wondering if anyone else noticed that?

now that sucks. I am sure the parking lot view price isn't any lower than this years garden view either. come on...really....
we are paying thru the nose as it is.....

It appears the Polynesian is reverting to the old pricing model it used in the 80s and 90s. Back then there were multiple pricing categories: parking lot, garden/pool, water, lagoon, garden concierge, lagoon concierge, suites. In the late 90s, the pricing models were simplified to garden, lagoon, gv concierge, lv concierge, and suites. Then in the past few years, the theme park view was slipped in there to up the ante on those rooms in primo locations.

It was very confusing in the old days because if you were a noob, you really didn't know what you wanted. If you were a frequent flyer, you knew what you wanted, but may not want to pay the extra cost for a room that was reclassified. The simplification in classification was nice, but it came with an overall price increase.

In any event, whatever they call the room category, it's all about the money and getting the most of it from your pocket. By reclassifying the rooms, it will be more difficult to request rooms or at least more limiting based upon the multitude of classifications.

I looked at the website for May 2010 and the standard view room is listed as:
View of parking area, garden, pool, marina or monorail at Disney's

the room above it is the garden view concierge which says:
View of a garden or the quiet pool at Disney's Polynesian Resort


so we are still just paying garden view price for all garden views...the difference is concierge....

at least that is how it looks to me. but we are paying more for weekends.

Ok, I just priced a Dec 5-11, 2010, with park hopper, dining plan, and club level and the price was about the same for what I would have paid for the same time period this year. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is news to me! I just booked yesterday for our February vacation and I stated I wanted garden view and he didn't ask me what kind of garden view I wanted...now I'm nervous...when I received my invoice, it didn't say anything specific either about a specified garden view, just said Polynesian-GV. Should I call back to clarify? I definitely do not want a parking lot view!

On a side note, Yipee for me finally booking for next year, besides this slight derailing of excitement, I had a question about the Spirit of Aloha...I didn't go last year, and was thinking about next year possibly. But wondering if it is something my 4 year old would enjoy, or wait til she gets older? She generally does not like the shows at the parks, although she does like music and she loved the "fireguy" who lit the torches at night. What do you guys think? It's a lot of money, so just wondering who's had little ones go and what your experiences were

Could it be only certain times of year? Just curious. I don't want to call unless I can read it and see it for myself want to make sure I know what I'm talking about (especially since sometimes they're not sure themselves!)

I think they just worded it different, maybe people complained if they did not get the perfect view. It also looks like at least for GV and GVCL it went up $10 a night during value season. It also looks like the charge is the same for the weekends.

Okay guys....maybe because I am working crazy hours I am cracking up I could swear that when I looked it up last night and there was two seperate standard rooms for GV. Now there is just one. There was like a $30 per night difference. I am pretty sure about what I saw.

Honestly I think because of the length and the cost, you're better off skipping the Spirit of Aloha with your DD4 until she's older. My DD was 6 when we saw the show and while she does generally love shows, she didn't like it enough to want to go again but she was old enough and interested enough to see the entire show. It was pretty expensive and frankly, we would have had more fun eating at Kona and watching the torch lighting ceremony. I'm glad we did it to say we did.

When I was looking up a package plan on the disney site last night, when I accidently hit remove tickets, it gave me a break down of how much per night. I was looking at a Sun-Fri stay and all nights had the same price. So are they just asking more for a Sat night stay or does it depend on the time of year? I was looking at an early Dec 2010 stay.

Also, I am used to different beach resorts charging more for weekend stays. Vegas hotels also do the same.

You aren't crazy. I was researching and came up with the same thing, then when I looked the next day it was gone. I still haven't gotten the website to come up with a quote including the dining plan. They are updating the website this morning so hopefully it will be accurate this afternoon.

Considering I for some reason cannot get access to the 2010 Polynesian room rates, but basing it on other hotels season rates, they are charging weekend rates for the regular season and the peak season only. Not the value season. So yes, it does depend on the time of year. I was just thinking about how last year they didn't charge weekend rates for the regular season but now they are.
