I am jealous of all of you guys too. Look at how long I gotta wait. ;) Keep those posts coming. I love reading all I can about this beautiful resort. This will be our first time at the Poly. I can't wait until we can enjoy it too. :lovestruc All of you who are going now, have a wonderful time!!!! Thanks for keeping my Disney withdrawl at ease. ;)

I'm curiuos -- is it really necessaryto have reservations if you want to go to lunch at Kona? We plan to come back to the resort in the afternoons for downtime (and hopefully NAPS for the girls) and I have visions of being able to just have a quick bite in Kona for lunch. Is this possible to do on the fly like that or do you really need to have ressies??

And how is Captain Cooks? Menu looks very limited but that pork sandwich sounds amazing. Any other recommendations for lunch items either at CCs or Kona???

THANKS!

We are all packed and ready to go to the Poly, too! My mom has declared that no one can wear any more clothes, because she's done all the laundry she's going to do - ha!

That's really funny because I say that every time! We are going in the summer, so I will designate one outfit that they can wear for the last 2 days. Of course, this doesn't include white wear!

I spent a good part of the weekend doing laundry and packing. I'm definitely in vacation mode! In a way the rest of the week at work should be pretty easy. The boss wasn't there today, so that was a good thing (not that it's bad when she's there, but it is a different atmosphere). Tomorrow we're having a clean up day at work so I can wear jeans. Thursday I have an all day meeting/training. Only problem is we're short handed. One coworker is out because his son was just born. Another is out starting tomorrow because he got a good deal on a trip to Mexico. I just can't help but wonder if any helpdesk tickets do come in who's going to do them. Hopefully it will be quiet. Normally around this time of year it does quiet down. Hopefully I can just coast out the rest of the week! I just need to finish up some last minute shopping and packing.

I can't speak on Kona, but both DD and I loved the noodle bowl at CCs (had it three times over vacation), and their cheeseburger was very juicy and tender. The croissants at breakfast are very light and flaky and hit the spot every morning for a great breakfast on the go. And don't forget the dole whip!

I've never found that reservations at Kona were needed for breakfast or lunch. I would suggest one for Dinner though. As far as Capt Cook's, yes the menu is pretty limited. More limited than it should be I feel. Also, even after the rehab, they are still often strapped for dining space. My favorite is the grilled cheese sandwich! I know grilled cheese does not sound like a big deal but I love the way they make it. I can't remember what it's made with that makes it so different but is definitely is! Anyone out there know?

Well we're home. Only ended up staying at the Poly 4 nights. Decided it wasnt for us.

The view and the transportation were awesome but thats just about all we liked. Had a few issues that left a bad taste in my DH's mouth. I think we are probably just in the group that just doesnt get it LOL. We will probably try it again just to give it a second chance. I do want to thank you all for all of your information and for this thread.

I'm really interested to hear what things you did not like about the Poly. Please fill us in. Did you ask to move to another resort after 4 days or was that all you were planning on being there? Sorry you did not enjoy it that much.

Here is her post from today on the BC/YC thread. I asked the same question (because we also switched from the Poly to another resort once) and this is what she answered:

"On to the issues at the Poly. It all started with the snide comments from a castmember. DH and I were in the lobby waiting for our pizza delivery. When he arrived I was chatting with him and asked him how he was liking the rain. I wasnt complaining, just making conversation. There were 2 women behind the desk and one of them said "If I have to hear one more tourist complaining about the weather Im going to scream" And the other one looked at me and said "You could just make the most of it ya know" I was thought, whatever, theyre cranky. My DH however was a little ticked. Not really the end of the world, just annoying. Then that same night we went up to do laundry. 3 times the same guy in a gold cart sped by us and 3 times he drenched us driving through all the standing water that was pooling on the sidewalks. Ok, how about slowing down just a little when going by people walking. Once again, just annoying. On Wednesday evening we called housekeeping for some towels, since we were dripping wet from the rain. She shows up and proceeds to lecture me about how we have gone through enough towels for 5 familys and that we need to learn to reuse them. Now that ticked me off.

We decided that night that we would go up and try and switch resorts the next morning. So on Thursday morning we went down and talked to the girl at the desk. We told her that we wanted to switch and that we needed either 2 adjoining rooms at a mod or a room or a suite at another deluxe. She calls CSR and they could only get us in 2 rooms on 2 different floors, so that wouldnt work. She says "Well theres not anything available on property, so I cant help you." I asked her how she could say that when the only place she called was CSR. She didnt even respond, just turned around and told the guy behind her that she wasnt dealing with us. Ok. Now Im getting more than ticked. We asked him to call YC/BC. They had the rooms that we needed, thank goodness. He tells us that the reservations are made, that we could call bell services to transfer our bags and then to let them know when we are leaving so the could close out our account. My DH said that we wanted to go ahead and check out and to close the account. He asked if we had a CC on file and said he would close it out for us. We then left, got packed, called bell services and after they got the bags left for the MK.

When we got to YC, they had no idea what we were talking about. No reservations had been made. So Sandra finally got us checked in, our dining credits transferred, keys made etc. But when she went to charge our balance for the rooms the CC was declined. She looked in her computer and lo and behold the Poly hadnt closed us out. And they were going to charge us for that night because we hadnt checked out. Wrong answer. Thats when she got the manager involved. They gave us our room keys so we could take the kids up and then we went back down to figure out the issues. When we got back down they had got into the system, closed our account with Poly and got us all fixed up. Funny thing is, our luggage made it without any issues!

So anyway, it was nothing vacation busting. Just some annoying things that escalated. Im sure it can happen anywhere."

Yep sounds like some pretty rude behavior from some cast members. I've been lucky enough to never have had that happen to me. I can understand the mousekeeping issue . I've had some poor mousekeeping, but never rude ones luckily. Hopefully things were better at the other resort.

Can anyone tell me if the rooms at the Poly have I-pod docks. My son has an I-touch and we only charge on the computer at home.

Thanks

Sadly, I think rude customer service is a sign of the times and I really do not like it. :sad2: Not just Disney World, but the consumer market in general. Cutbacks are everywhere!

I think that family did what was best for them to salvage their vacation. They sounded like they really enjoyed the YC so I am glad for them. :goodvibes

Now I don't feel quite as bad about my wait now. I saw your ticker said 3 years and something, and I only have 1 year and 6 months. So, I need to stop whining.

When we stayed at the WL last December, I was able to charge my iPhone in the dock at the hotel - I assume the itouch would work as well, if they have the same docks at the poly.

So at 6 days out from our long-dreamt-about stay at the Poly, I managed to slip in the shower and fracture my cheekbone! And all I could think about (until I could get in to see the surgeon) was "I will be absolutely sick if I have to cancel my trip!"

It's all good though - as the good doc scheduled me for surgery on Thursday and cleared me to vacation as planned (rollercoasters included)! whew! I will, however, be limited to a soft food diet. Dole Whips, Pina Colavas, and Pineapple Macadamia Nut pancakes are all soft foods, right? :)

Let the countdown continue!
