As of April, they had plain croissants, plain bagels, and cinnamon rolls out each morning. The selection didn't change at all the week we were there.

Sorry, no danishes, at least when we were there.

mmmears is right--gone are the cream cheese danish as well. . . The welcoming chocolate bar is also about 1/2 the original size. . .cutbacks. . . *sigh*

Thanks for the info.:goodvibes I am sure we will make the most of it.

Woah, no more cream cheese danish? :::sigh::: Those things were wonderful during our December CL stay. Very sad to see that go...

Question--I know WDW is notorious for bad coffee, but the Poly is one of the FEW places where it can be good. If I were to order a pot through room service, is it a pot of the good stuff (Kona) or do I have to go the coffee place on site to get that? Weird question I know, but just wondering if I have to add coffee to my wegoshop order plan. Thanks!

Unless it says 100% Kona Coffee for the pot, then it's the regular Nescrapfe stuff. The only places to get 100% Kona Coffee at the Poly is at the Kona Cafe or the Kona Island coffee bar right next to it. You can also buy the ground 100% Kona Cofee at Kona Island. I forget the size of the bag (about 1/2 pound I think) and in December it cost $25.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

I'm here! I'm here! AND I AINT NEVER LEAVING!!! I love this place. I will never stay anywhere else. We got GV Fuji which is really nice. First Floor. The beach is just steps from our room. Can't wait to see Wishes from there tonight. I am the happiest person alive right now! Thanks everyone for all the tips and info. It convinced me to pick the Poly and I'm so grateful.

DBF and I kinda ruined the first 10 mins tho, I waved and it started pouring! Haha

It does, thanks! Guess I"ll be ordering coffee with my grocery order, I can't bear to go out in public until I've had some LOL

Welcome back!
Thanks, not happy to be here, but we did arrive safe and sound!

I'm guessing the rain has stopped for a bit. . .better luck to you than we had last week. . . ;)

Welcome home Tess. I made sure Wolverine Country would provide pleasant weather for your homecoming. :goodvibes

I forgot to mention in my report that I absolutely loved the pineapple macadamia nut pancakes at Kona Cafe. Wish I could get a half order though. I ate slightly more than half but stuffed myself doing that. DH wanted plain pancakes and he is the pineapple lover. I would have gladly split the order.

Yep, thanks Kathy--the weather here is much nicer than we had last week. Our pool is 78º--not ideal, but still okay considering the weather last week--I will take the 85º in MI compared to the rain of last week! ;)

Hey all my Poly Peeps! :goodvibes

DH and I are having second thoughts about our September trip. First of all, we are paying rack rate (club level) and getting free dining which while it is a bonus, it really is not such a great deal.

We just went in December and our life prior to that trip and upon return has been rather hectic and manic. While we love going to Disney, I am just not feeling it for September. I really just want to "get away" for a bit at this point. I had major surgery in February and I am still adjusting to things. I feel like in September we will just be getting back into school and all that goes with that...

We are considering either rebooking in late January for DD's birthday or early March before the spring break crowds. Any advice would be great. It is not a money issue, but dare I say it...just not ready to head back to the World. More of me just wants to go to the Poly  Do I sound nuts? :confused3

I don't think you sound nuts at all! My DD and I are more excited to go back to the Poly than to the actual theme parks! We had just as much fun if not more at the resort. It was such a relaxing vacation, and we went out to MK and Epcot when we felt like it, and often returned to the Poly unexpectedly when we just wanted to go back to hang out at the pool or the beach, or just walk around the grounds and lobby. The parks for me was secondary to my stay at the Poly, and that is why we will not be able to stay anywhere else! I'm looking for a little part time job so I can use whatever money I make to feed my new addiction to the Poly. Unfortunately, it is impossible to find a little part time job! Hopefully Christmastime I can find something in retail!

For those of you who just returned, it sounds like you had wonderful trips and I can't wait to see your pics! Tess, I can't believe all the rain...you rarely hear about days and days of rain. I'm glad you still were able to enjoy yourself.

For those of you there right now, enjoy yourselves and appreciate every minute. It goes by way too fast, and then you get home and all you can think about is when you can get back there! (Maybe that's why I ended up in the ER with six stitches a few days back....daydreaming about the Polynesian when I should have been more careful with the knife I was holding! That's why I haven't written in a few days...Couldn't type! :lmao: )

My dad and I are staying at the Polynesian in September, and I want to view the monorail from my room, which longhouse is closer to the monorail?

For best monorail views, request "3rd floor rarotonga or aotearoa, monorail side." Then hope you don't get palm fronds on your balcony. Rapa nui also may have some views of monorail but I'm not too sure. The GF side of Fiji offers some more distant views of the monorail on it's way to GF and also the pretty beach and wedding pavilion.

Aren't those pancakes the best pancakes you've ever tasted?????? My nephew and his girlfriend tried them during Spring Break and couldn't get enough of them either! Does anyone have the recipe or know where I can get it? It may be a while before we get back to our favorite vacation place on earth (like many American's experiencing financial woes right now) and I just can't wait for those pancakes!!!

About how much is a regular cup of coffee at the Kona Island Coffee Bar? So I'm assuming if you have the refillable mugs you can get the yucky stuff at Captain Cooks but you can't use it for the good stuff at the coffee bar, right?

Nescafe - is that INSTANT coffee? :scared1::scared1: I'm not s huge coffee conisieur by any means but I do like a nice cup or two in the morning while on vacation to get myself moving!!!

As long as we're on the coffee topic - what do they have out (at CCs) for cream/sweetner? Do they have real cream/half and half or just the powdered crap?

Aloooha!
It rained so hard yesterday! Good thing DBF and I napped through most of the downpour but the thunder and lightning is what woke me up! We took the monorail to MK and got to ride in the front all the way around the loop and back to MK because the driver wanted to make a 'special moment' for us....AND he's on the DIS! His name is Bryan and on here he's MonorailGuy! He told us he had dinner with Cheshire Figment the other day! I tried to have DBF try kona coffee but kona island was closed by the time we got there. Were gonna try again this morning, its beautiful out right now I just hope it stays this way. Fantasmic tonight and a DISmeet at MK EMH :)

Welcome back Tess! Sorry about the rain.

I am loving the live reports. DH and and I are still mulling over our decision. Sometimes I wonder if it is this darn hysterectomy that has be so indecisive!

I can't wait to see pics!

Tess, welcome back. I'm so sorry about the weather your second week. In the past few years we've had several May trips and the weather was wonderful if a bit warm for me. I'm also so sorry to hear about the changes at breakfast. How could they take away the pineapple bread? What a shame.

My dad and I are staying at the Polynesian in September, and I want to view the monorail from my room, which longhouse is closer to the monorail?

I think I'd just ask for monorail view to make sure the assignor knows that's what you want most. Iliveeyore summed up things well. Rapa Nui does have a view of the monorail on one side but it is at a greater distance than Raratonga and Aotearoa.

How fun to meet another DISser.:cool1: I hope the weather holds for you today. :wizard:

Good luck with your decision.:goodvibes We love spending time at the resort so completely understand what you mean.

"NESCRAPFE" - thanks for the laugh:rotfl2:.

You're welcome. And that's my *nice* name for it. It is, without a doubt, the worst instant coffee. I wish Disney would cancel their sponsorship or something. McDonalds has better coffee now so why not use that? Anyways, just rantings of another coffee addict. :lmao:

I posted a pic further down in this post but the price for a small and medium cups are $1.99 and $2.49 respectively. And yes, you are correct: if you have the refillable mugs you are stuck with the coffee 'swill' at Captain Cooks.

Nescafe - is that INSTANT coffee? :scared1::scared1: I'm not s huge coffee conisieur by any means but I do like a nice cup or two in the morning while on vacation to get myself moving!!!

Yes ma'am, that is instant coffee. And it isn't even a nice cup of instant coffee either. :rotfl:

As long as we're on the coffee topic - what do they have out (at CCs) for cream/sweetner? Do they have real cream/half and half or just the powdered crap?

Now thankfully at CCs they do have real half and half. It's brought in from a local dairy (T.G. Lee) and it's usually in a little chilled bin next to the decaf and regular methadone, er, coffee at CCs. :thumbsup2

Below is a photo I took of the menu at Kona Island last December so I'd have it for my reference. The price for ground 100% Kona coffee bags aren't on there as that price is posted at the bar itself.

Ok friends...DD and I just had the discussion and I am looking for your experiences. We are thinking about 2/27 to 3/6/2010.

I asked on the Theme park board but wondering about your thoughts if anyone has gone during this time?? Weather, crowds, the impact of the Princess Half Marathon or ESPN weekend???

Thanks guys!

First off, welcome back to those folks returning from the Poly. For those folks still there, enjoy it to the fullest!

I don't think you sound nuts at all! My DD and I are more excited to go back to the Poly than to the actual theme parks! We had just as much fun if not more at the resort. holding!

That's how it was for me when DD was a preschooler. We spent so much time at the Poly that the theme parks came second for us. So easy to go back to the Poly when she was tired for a little rest and relaxation. Now that she's almost a tween, we're spending a *lot* more time in the parks which means less time at the resort. Hence the split stays with us.

Good luck with finding the part time job! And be careful with sharp objects while daydreaming about the Poly. :goodvibes
