The *ALL NEW* Polynesian Resort FAQ thread - *APRIL 2009*

Just back from our magical 7 nights at the Poly! So lucky--we got Tahiti as requested. As magical as I remembered. A few things......We did not do online check in and when we arrived (about noon), there was no line for regular check in but quite a line for online check in. The conversations were mostly about room switching. So I was glad I was able to chat directly with the CM checking us in and just take care of everything all at once. It only took a few minutes (room wasn't ready) and we were off to lunch at the Wave--our favorite.

A quick trip down Main Street at the MK after lunch and then we called the number to check whether the room was ready and it was. Our luggage was waiting for us in the room (3047). No problems with Mousekeeping all week. We were usually out early and back for an afternoon nap and the room was always ready. The toilet seat was broken upon arrival (it wouldn't stay up for my DBF) so we let the front desk know on our way out after unpacking and it was fixed when we got back that evening. The only thing was that someone called us at 10:45 PM--when we were sound asleep-- to ask if the toilet seat was OK. Umm. Huh? But we went right back to sleep so no big deal.

Everyone at the Poly was as friendly as always. The grounds were gorgeous as always, although we o nly made it to the pool once. Tambu lounge--so good.

We looked at the CR and were thinking about going there next time because the rooms are quite nice for a bit less money but the Poly is just so magical, and the Monorail accessibility at the CR is too annoying!

I want to go back already...

Returned from CL 9June. In regards to cereal offered while there: Fruit Loops, Raisin Bran, Cherrios, and Frosted Flakes. Same cereal every morning. You could ask for toast but was not sitting out. You could also request waffles. Always had pastries and fruit. Same stuff everyday, but plenty to choose from.

Interesting, huntconn. ???

I'm glad you're having a great trip despite the pool hoppers. Isn't Dick an incredible asset to the Polynesian? What a great CM.:goodvibes

Have fun the rest of your stay.:cool1:

Thanks, we have had a wonderful stay. The pool hoppers did not put a damper on it at all, just an interesting topic of discussion. Certainly should be better addressed by the management here. Unfortunately we leave tomorrow, but hopefully we'll be back again next Summer. I can honestly say that even with the cutbacks by Disney, I did not notice any drop in service or cleanliness at the Polynesian. Anyone who is considering booking this resort should not think twice about it. :thumbsup2 And yes, Chef Dick is The Man. We look forward to seeing him every trip. Love his fruit sculpture that he does of the tropical animals. Very cool!

I didn't know that about the 2nd floor(no balconies). Thanks for letting me know!:thumbsup2 Do you think we will have a view if we request 1st floor?
All the views in the Hawaii Longhouse are the same no matter the floor you stay on, so if you ended up with the 1st floor I would say that would be ok.

So question for your Poly experts?

I tried and tried to get an ADR for Ohana. I was online at 6, called at 7 at 90 days, then tried again online on the exact day 90 days from the date I wanted to go to Ohana. Anyhow I got a reservation alright for 9:50 pm

No I am thrilled I even got a reservation however that seems a little ridiculous to eat at that time. I dont know if food even digests at that time :scared1:

So since we are staying at Poly what do you think my chances are of changing the time on the reservation when we get there? Do they offer any kind of assistance to the people who are actually staying on the property. I am not trying to annoy anyone or get any kind of freebie or perk but it seems like it would be nice if they tried to accomodate the people who are staying at that hotel for the in house restaurants. We have a reservation, its just so late.

Has anyone had any luck changing a reservation before? Also I didnt book any breakfasts at Kona actually because I forgot you needed to but now am going to try. If I cannot get one, what are my chances of getting one when we get down there?

Thanks so much, you guys are great will all the wonderful information we get here. TIA :)

I ran into the same problem. I got 8:50 AR in Aug. I called at the 90 day mark and that was the earlies time they could give me for the whole week. After I took the reservation I called back every day. I finaly scored one for 5:05. It only took 40 days of calling. LOL

Good Luck.

We stayed four nights, on the second floor, lagoon view, in the Hawaii Longhouse in early June. We requested a first floor, but this room was ready at 10 AM when we arrived so we took it. The view was great, and I honestly didn't miss having the patio or balcony.

Congrats on planning for Dec '10! You remind me of myself - I started planning this time last year for Dec '09 and booked my Poly room in August the first day it was possible to book! You'll learn SO much here about the Poly! Have fun planning!!

LOL! - Count us in on that same time frame!

5 months and change to go...The waiting may kill me! :goodvibes

hey everyone! i was wondering if someone can answer a couple of questions for me. I leave for the poly in 2 weeks!
1. are there ipod docks in the rooms?
2. how good is the hair dryer in the room? lol. i have really thick hair and need a powerful blowdryer and am debating whether or not to bring my own.

TIA! :thumbsup2

There are Ipod docks in the rooms--at least there are in Hawaii--I'm guessing they would be in all rooms.

The hair dryer isn't of the greatest quality, but worked fine for me and my daughter who has really long/thick hair. I believe it is a 1500 watt.

It's good to hear this point of view. We were 3d floor in Hawaii LV last summer and it was incredible. But we didn't sit on the balcony much, if at all. Just stood there gaping  And had the draperies wide open for our entire stay, day and night :wizard: I think - at least for a trip during hot weather - I wouldn't miss the balcony either.

We had an iHome in our GV room in March :music:

I agree with Tess about the hair dryers. Here is a pic:

Guess that puppy has more power than I thought--it's the same as ours at home--just didn't seem to blow as hard! :rotfl: Then again, it could have been the humidity in the air as well. . .

Okay, I just have to express my love for these boards. Someone asks about the hair dryer and immediately someone posts a picture. Not being snarky - that's just really impressive:).

I'm so excited. I just have to say how much I appreciate all of your posts. After dozens of trips, I am finally getting to stay Poly and this thread has me more excited than many of my previous trips. So, a big THANK YOU!

This is a great thread the Disboards are wonderful in getting the information you need. Thanks for the info the Ipod docking station -- that was going to be my next question (yeah, the boyfriend wants to bring the Ipod too!!)

Whew!! I finally made it to July!!! I can now finally say "I'm going back to WDW THIS MONTH!!!"

How long does it usually take to get to Epcot via the monorail?

I am booked right now in a MK View and was thinking of requesting the Tahiti bldg. so I would be closer to the TTC for Monorail access for MK/Epcot. I will be staying by myself with a 6 year old and a toddler who will be 20 mos. I am trying to plan the most convenient trip possible.

I just found this thread and haven't had time to read all of it but I am so excited to have found it!We are staying at the Poly in December and it has been a lifelong dream to stay there. We have always wanted to stay at two resorts: The Contemporary Tower and the Poly, MK view. We did the Contemp Tower in November 05 for a surprise birthday for my husband (he actually cried when we got in the ME line for that resort instead of the line for POR that he thought we were staying at) and now, the Poly! Wahoo!!Life is great, isn't it?:cool1:
P.S. We also are now DVC members at BLTs and are planning a grand gathering for my siblings and their grandchildren in December 2010.

I happen to have taken notes on my phone last summer on this exact route.
From the Hawaii Building we walked to the TTC and took the monorail to Epcot.
It took us 7 minutes to get to the monorail and the ride from the TTC to Epcot was 9 minutes :thumbsup2
