Our trip for June 12 -18. It's myself. DH, and two daughters ages 16 and 17. Staying for the first time in the Fort Wilderness Cabins (we've camped in an RV twice before).

But I did want to ask and seek opions, this is our first trip with teenagers  and I was wondering how much freedom others give their kids while at WDW. Our last trip, the girls were 11 and 12! and they will probably want a bit of freedom!

Welcome to the group! At that age I think they'll be OK IF they are responsible teenagers that will call you or meet you when you set a time/place to meet back up. Who knows ya'll also might just want to hang together if you and hubby like rides and so do they. ;o) We will be there that week with a 15 yr old but she LOVES riding rides with her daddy and aunts. I usually end up going with the smaller kids and my mom whom can't do the bigger rides.

Trying to choose between California Grill or Cindrella's Table for our first night, Sunday, June 12.

Cinderella Table or California would be at 9:20 and the fireworks are at 9:00

With two teenaged girls, which would be preferred -- can you see the fireworks from Cinderella's Table?

Not sure you can see the fireworks from Cindy. I'd even try for Crystal Palace and see if you can sit outside. :goodvibes Good luck either way.

7) what is your favorite "land" in magic kingdom? fantasyland

4) As a child, how many Disney trips have you taken (if any)? I want to say 4 but I can't remember the early ones so it might be 5

Hi,

I would think California Grill is better to see the fireworks from - as the restaurant has a viewing deck where you can stand outside ...

and I believe they pipe the music into the restaurant too :wizard:

For Cinderella's Royal Table, as PP said you won't be able to see very much as there are not many windows in the restaurant & the fireworks explode all around the castle.
(I think the windows are currently blocked as there is work being done on the castle, but sure it'll be completed by June/summer :goodvibes)
you would see more if you requested/got a seat by the windows..

and I think this restaurant also pipes the music in!

a fellow DISer (Stefy) wrote about being at CRT during Wishes..

Also.. I think Wishes will be on at 10pm each night in June?

June Park Hours

Something else to think about might be a Wishes Dessert Party? :wizard:

Ok, so I know y'all will understand my ADR changitis disease :lmao: I've been stalking the website for an Ohana ADR, but still no luck. Reading an old TR today I saw some food porn from Kona. Man it looks good!

So, here's my question- Crystal Palace at 3:30 or Kona at 5:20? This is going to be an early day for us, we have an 8:30 ADR at CRT, and that's check in day, so we've got to wake up, travel to All Star Movies and then to MK, so we'll have to wake up 2 toddlers around 6am. So I figured that'll be an early night, but I don't know if it'll be THAT early (3:30).
My oldest knows all the Pooh characters, but isn't a HUGE fan or anything.

opinions?

Sara-
The kids might like Crystal Palace better but I love Kona's food. It's one of my favorites. We didn't do it this trip simply because the kids are little and buffets are better for them, but I love Kona. I don't think you can go wrong either way. 5:20 isn't that late so it's not like it will make the day that much longer so I think if you want to try it, go for it. It's definitely worth it.

Newbie question...How the heck are ya'll adding the logo to your signatures? I like it & want to grab too! ;)

Well, I've never done this as the adult, but as the teen. What my father did was give me a walkie talky (those Motorola ones that work over many miles or something like that, this was pre-cell phones being everywhere). and let me go off with a plan of what rides/shows I was going to. I would check in via walky to let them know if my plan changed, and they would let me know if they moved areas too. before we parted ways we would also have a planned meet up time and place.

So pretty much the walky was only 'just in case' as they knew where I should be at any given time, just like at home!

ie: we would start together in the morning, get to the park, I would say, I plan to go to test track, little mermaid and then hang out in the seas. we would set up meeting at 1pm near the garden grill. they would say they plan to go to x, y and z. we would check the channel on the walky and off we went.

worked well, because even when the walky's wouldn't work, we not only had a good idea where the other was, but also had already set a meet up time and place. :thumbsup2

Also, a lot of this depends on the teen's involved. some kids you know you can trust and have a really good head on their shoulders, others... well... i'd be watching them from the distance ready to thwap them upside the head. :lmao:

so, boils down to what you are comfortable with. If you know they won't end up teaming up with trouble makers, let them run a bit.. if they don't have a history of knowing when to say no and walk away from peer pressure.. keep them closer. (I am just thinking of the reports of coolers of beers walking off in ft. wilderness, and of the teen spots they show up at. only you know if they would be the ones to join in with that, stand and watch, or report it to you.)

basically I treat traveling as the same as I do at home. I don't know every last person here (at home), and I always have set up rules and expectations. same with traveling.

My last trip my oldest two were 16 and 13 and we gave them a lot of freedom. They could go to the pool alone while we got the little one down for a nap either midday or in the evening. They often split off in the parks, and they even did a whole round trip by themselves once or twice--bus to park, tour, bus home. They're Disney pros and the transportation is so easy, we didn't worry about them at all.

I can say they really enjoyed the pool activities--dance contests, stuff like that, and would even walk over to the resort next door (from Movies to Music) to participate. I would assume there's some fun stuff at Fort Wilderness, too.

Welcome, Oklahoma has been added to the map, to see here is the link http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40662926&postcount=1578

I say give the kids some freedom (as long as they promise to stay together).

There are school groups that go to Disney all of the time and "let the kids loose" with a time to check back in, etc...

16 is old enough to drive, so I say let them have some fun!
