Now the crowds there should be ok and one tip is to arrive at the parks when they open, no matter if it's for AM Extra Magic Hour or the regular park opening.[/QUOTE]

Thank you Resort Fan! That is one lesson we practiced on our first visit and it was soooo worth it to get there before rope drop.

Not sure if this belongs here, but this thread is so friendly - I figured I'd try!!

One of the main reasons I wanted to stay at CR with a TPV is to watch the fireworks at night from our balcony!!! We're only doing a 4-night stay (originally it was 7, but then DH *really* wanted to also go to the Universal parks - and so we compromised!) - so I want to see Wishes as much as possible - hehe.

If we stay for Illuminations at EPCOT one night..would we be able to make it back to our room fto see Wishes (or perhaps the MVMCP fireworks that will be going on 2 nights of our stay?)

Thanks!!! Again - I *love* this thread! Soooooo informative...first post I check when I log on to the Dis to see if I've missed anything!!

Well Illuminations is at 9:30 PM and Holiday Wishes during MVMCP is also at 9:30 PM, so that won't work. It also won't work for the regular Wishes show because usually that is at 10:00 PM, so you still wouldn't make it since Illuminations is at 9:30 PM and takes at least 15 minutes.

:welcome: to the CR/BLT thread! Glad you're not lurking anymore.

The best way you could come close to seeing both Illuminations and Wishes at the CR would be to book a BLV room (a higher floor helps), go out onto the balcony and look to the right and you can see the Illuminations fireworks around 9:30. Then at 10:00 you could watch Wishes from the beach or the observation deck on the 4th floor or CA Grill, if you have or had a reservation that day or from the Atrium Club lounge if you're staying on club level.

While your right that you can see Illuminations from the higher floors of the Tower with the Bay Lake View, it's still not the same when you see them from Epcot or the Epcot Resorts.

I apologize in advance if either of these questions is answered in this thread...but....this thread is over 160 pages and I haven't read the whole thing!:scared1:

First...We are doing a split stay and moving from the Dolphin to the CR mid-trip. We will have a car, so my plan is to pack up and check out of the Dolphin and put my stuff in the car and head to the MK, as that is the park that we will visit on our transition day. Assuming that I can get everyone up and at it, we will be in the car and moving by 8:30. Can I park at the CR that morning, explaining to the security guard that we will be checking in later that day, or will I have to park at the TTC lot?

Second question....While at the CR, we will be taking a day off from the parks (after closing down the MK at 2:00 a.m. on an EMH night). The plan is to lounge by the pool, rent a boat, etc. I see that the CR has a few cabanas for rent. In the summer sun, we will definitely need shade. Are there sufficient umbrellas for this, or should we plan to rent a cabana? Most other pool areas have trees and shade, but the CR is rather stark. But shade is a must. If the answer is: "Rent a cabana. They are awesome", how far in advance should we do this. I can't find anything on the official site that discusses this. But with only 4 cabanas, I would imagine that the competition is stiff. Do we call the main hotel number and ask to be connected to the Director of Cabanas??

Any help would be appreciated.

For your 1st question you can check-in to the Contemporary and you will be given your parking pass, so you won't have any problems leaving your car there. That way you can either use the walkway to the Magic Kingdom or take the Resort Monorail. Now chances are your room won't be ready, so you can leave your luggage in your car or with bell services.

As for your 2nd question the only places I have seen tables with umbrellas is at the ones by the Sand Bar. Now whenever I have been at their pool I haven't seen any guests in the cabanas so I am not sure what the competition is to rent them, although since they have them I assume they have been rented in the past and will still be rented in the future. Anyway here is a link to information about the cabanas and numbers you can call about renting them.

Thanks for the info and the link. I have no expectation of having a room ready at that hour, so I won't be "that guy" screaming at the front desk associate complaining that they have not moved heaven and earth for me! But it is great to know that I won't have to dump the car at the TTC. As for the cabana, I assume that when there are only four of anything at WDW, that the competition for them requires a two year head start.:rotfl: I'll call the number and see what they say. Odd that I could not find that number on the WDW site. Thanks again for you wealth of info.

I've never seen anyone in one yet and we were most recently there in December and August. But, if you definitely know you want one, there's no harm in making a reservation.

My DH hates the sun, but the CR pool is his favorite because he can always find a shady spot under the trees closest to the Tower/hot tub area.

If you haven't put in any room location requests, you might be very surprised that your room is ready. It might even be ready if you have put in some requests. I'd say you have greater than a 50/50 chance from all my early morning check-in experiences.

Have a great vacation!

Ahhh...thanks for the info. I was misinformed and had heard Illuminations was at 9:00 and was hoping we could make Wishes at 10:00. But yeah, even that is pushing it a wee bit - haha.

I'll just have to miss Wishes the night we see Illuminations - and that's okay!!!

I am soooooooo excited that we're staying at the CR! It has been my DREAM to stay here since I first rode the monorail when I was 13 and it went through the resort! Oh I can't wait!

Thanks for that. From the pictures, it looked like August shade would be hard to come by. But I guess it all depends on how the sun shifts, as the tower is very high and could created quite an eclipse if it is in the proper path of the sun!

Actually, that is correct. Illuminations is at 9:00 and it is possible to see both Illuminations and Wishes. But you have to really want to do it.

We've done that 3 different times. We watched Illuminations in Epcot but from the FW side of the lake. When it was over, we walked with purpose through the crowd up to the Monorail platform. Illuminations ends somewhere around 9:13. In 2 of the 3 times we did this, we made it back to the CR and up to our room and out on the balcony in time to watch Wishes. One time we missed the begining of Wishes.

CR Fan is correct that you can only see the top of Illuminations from the CR. There were a few times we watched it from a landing on the outside staircases on the Chef Mickey's end of the building. Just remember to put something in the doorway to keep the door from closing when you head out there. It will lock behind you and it's a long way back to the bottom floor to get back into the building.

Actually, it depends on when the OP is actually going. If she is going in November, during November of 2010, Illuminations was presented at 9:00 up until November 26th - 30th when it was presented at 9:30. If she is going in December, during December 2010, Illuminations was presented at 9:30 every night, except NYE.

The Wishes schedule also fluctuates in November and December anywhere from 8-10 (even 6:00 one night in Nov.) to not at all.

It will definitely take a little advanced planning on the OP's part.

I just wanted to say when I stayed at the Boardwalk Inn this past August and December, Illumintations was always at 9:30 PM. So that's always been my experience when seeing it at a specific time.

No argument here.

I must have missed that the OP was going in December. Even so, I didn't know they ever changed the time of Illuminations. Anytime I've been in WDW, it's at 9:00, but apparently it now moves to 9:30 during December. Who knew?

I have caught CR MANIA!!!!!!!!!! I booked today for May with the PIN. My husband told me last week, "Let's book a family vacation!" Then I got the PIN mailer the next day.:cool1:

I've only been to WDW once and we stayed at WL for a week. I seriously considered it my 2nd home. But now we have a toddler and the monorail resorts called to me! CR BLV was the best deal with our dates and now I am so so so excited after reading about it!!!! I keep thinking of questions but this thread has answered them all. Thank you!!:thumbsup2

DH loves WL, too, but staying in one of the monorail resorts with small children/strollers is GREAT!!! It will really spoil you! You will actually notice that the room size of the monorail resorts are bigger, too, compared to the WL. It's nice having the sofa/day bed. We will be at the CR in May, too...can hardly wait!

Happy Planning!
